Good job, did this on a wall yesterday, using hand saws to cut everything.. good tips on painting the grooves. Yours turned out great.

Hi Tony, nice work with the hand saw! The quickest way is paint the grooves is use a large thick roller that will get into the groove. I did the slow way (but prob better finish) with a paint brush for the grooves and a small roller for the rest of the surface. Happy painting!!

Hi, glad to see information on how to fit to an older house that isn’t plum. I don’t want to remove my scotia/coving, what could I use to allow a nice transition between the two? Do you use anything in the corner of rooms as I imagine there is a gap otherwise how do you slide the panel in?
@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex 9 ай бұрын
Hi Lisa, I butted the panels into the scotia/coving then used a flexible sealant to fill and smooth any places to allow a nice smooth transition. Regarding the internal corners, its common to place a 20mm x 20 mm piece of trim to cover the gap. I cut my panel to leave a 3mm space then filled with a flexible sealant to be painted. It's recommended to leave a 10mm space for expansion in corners but I have room for expansion on the opposite side. I hope this helps with your project. I have another video on Vj lining panels that might be helpful also here ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/npqWXp2kaKugrK8

Great video and well explained. What's your thoughts on putting the VJ board 10mm above the skirting board instead of taking it off? Or is it possible to sit it directly on the skirting board?
@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, thanks for the nice comment. You could install the lining board above the skirting. It means that you may not be able to nail into the bottom place of the timber frame. If you make sure to use lots of glue it should be fine. The specifications ask to into with a gap at the bottom for expansion.

Great video, much more detailed than the easycraft one. Speaking of which, does it make a difference whether you use the sikaflex adhesive like you did here for the backing rather than the gyprock one that comes in a tub that easycraft use in their's? Also with regards to the painting, would it be ok to just use a nap roller so you can get into the grooves instead of manually brushing the lines by hand? Thanks
@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex Жыл бұрын
Hi Meegoa, thanks for the message and questions. In regards to the glue, I like the sika flexible adhesive as it compresses to take out the bow in an old wall with a hight strength adhesive. I think a thick nap roller is a great idea to get into the grooves to save time. Let me know if it works well and it could save me lots time in the future. Thanks

Hi Donna, firstly thanks for watching the video and leaving a positive comment. It's easy to install horizontally. Just glue, nail and join the Vj lining boards on the timber studs. Always best to follow the manufactures installation instructions for every renovation/building product that you use. Good luck

When you reinstall the skirting, doesn't the added depth of the VJ panel mean that the current skirting wouldn't just fit back on without modifying the existing skirting on the adjoining wall (on the left in the video)?
@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex Жыл бұрын
Yes, thats correct. The thickness of the VJ Panel needs to cut from the skirting to fit the panel in. A multi / Renovator tool is best, if you don't have one a sharp chisel will also work to trim the skirting.

My thoughts are for the ceiling cornice I feel it “the panel” sticks out more due to thickness. Would one remove cornice and add again? Or simply remove altogether? Next if wall 3500 high stairway what would you do for bottom and for gap between sheets?
@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex 6 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the questions. Here are my answers The bottom profile on a conventional cornice is 10 mm and the thickness of the VJ lining boards I used are 9 mm. Therefore the panel in my project finished flush. It would be a great finish remover the cornice and re-install but its a lot of work. For a stairwell with a height of 3500 I would buy sheets at a length of 3.6 and cut to fit. If its too tight to fit I would remove cornice, gyprock lining, and then install noggins at 600mm centres ( if you wish to install lining vertical) then install pine 133mm x 12 mm pine VJ lining boards fixing them directly into the noggins. Or run them horizontally and nail them directly to the timber studs.

@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex 11 ай бұрын
Hi David, yes i nailed to the studs, bottom plate and added a flexible adhesive also. I don’t think I could nail to the top plate due the cornice being in the way, so I nailed into the gyprock to hold the view sheet firm while the adhesive set.

What is the best way to finish the end off on the external corner where it meets the plaster board?
@Icemane1995

@GreysandAlex
@GreysandAlex Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, when installing vj lining sheets over finished gyprock there are few options for the external corner. What I did is cut the sheet to finish flush with corner of the wall. As the house is old the external is 10 mm out of plumb. I used a track saw to cut the sheet to finish flush, then sanded the edge of the sheet for a nice finish. I then installed it and painted the edge of the sheet thats exposed with the same paint as the wall. It's a neat finish if you can finish it flush. Another option ( and probably easier) would be to use a timber external cover trim to to cover the external corner intersection of vj sheeting and gyprock. Then you don't need to be as accurate with the finished edge of the vj board. I hope this helps with your project.

@@GreysandAlex thanks for the prompt reply! I’m in West aus and we don’t have nice sharp gyprock corners. My house is old and the corners are quite round. But I think i can get away with a nice piece of aluminium painted the same colour as the vj panel kind of covering the corner.
