@@HouseImprovements Years ago, I wrote instructions for setting up and operating manufacturing equipment. One day, I got the idea to videotape the process and then created a comic book from the video. On some of these videos, I am tempted to make my own comic book so I will have these instructions actually out on my project.

Me either! In 1978 or 1979, my dad and his friend installed the sidings. Still beautiful condition ever since!. +Altair Ibn-La Ahad Yes it is much cheaper to do it yourself if you can, but not all people can or have houses that are easy to do. In hiring any contractor you need to get at least 3 estimates from reliable contractors that have multiple references. It is also important to check on the contractor with your states builders board to see if he is licensed and if he has any claims against him/her.
@blake4701
@blake4701 7 жыл бұрын
Altair Ibn-La Ahad there are a lot more expenses to running a legitimate business than a simple wage. payroll taxes, equipment maintenance, licensing fees, WCB, Professional Associations, on going certifications regarding safety etc. Not to mention there can be warranty costs, and no pension/benefits of any kind for the contractor. Also, installing the siding is only half of it at best. proper installation of the envelope (homewrap, dripcaps, and flashing of all types). i have seen so many jobs with improper moisture management issues. there is a huge difference between do it yourself/handyman work and a professional job.

I liked your video I didn’t see how you waterproofed the TYPAR vapor barrier/house-wrap to the weather-strip you sealed under the window? On the west coast if we don’t tape the house wrap to; the weather-strip that’s sealed under the window or to the window itself, the installation WILL LEAK. I like to install a plywood blade and my saw backwards which gives me a smooth cut and eliminates possible chipping

Great video! Really nice description of everything. I'm so glad you didn't just say what some of the tricks of doing this job are but actually demonstrated how to apply the trick/technique. This video actually makes me think I can do this. Thanks!

You do good tutorial videos. You speak clearly, explain well, and your camerman gets the shots properly...which is all god sent considering the crap people post just to show off.

I used his windows videos and installed 19 4'x3' new-construction windows for $6700, vs the $18,000 estimates from "professionals." That includes the interior casing and trim (thanks again, Shannon!).

Definitely worth buying the tool mentioned at the end of the video. I bought one today at my local Rona in Moose Jaw SK for 26 bucks. With the prices of glues and silicone being so high it only takes a few caulking tubes full to get to $26. Great video Shannon!

Hi Shannon,Great video on this subject..I always learn somthing new by watching your clips. I found that a mini grinder with a zipcut wheel really speeds up cutting the vinyl... Thanks for sharing your knowledge...
