How to Install WasteGate Actuator and Ethanol Content Sensor on a Focus RS

This is my how-to-install video for the TurboSmart Wastegate Actuator for the MK3 Focus RS, as well as installing the Ethanol Content Sensor kit that is put together by Full Blown MotorSports. The Ethanol Content sensor kit will also work with the Focus ST as the fuel lines and location are exactly the same, but you will need a male and female AN-fitting adaptor (Links are below). I installed the ethanol kit from Zeitronix on my near FBO 2016 focus RS and your video was very helpful. I purchased the kit from Maperformance off amazon. The kit didn't come with fuel lines unfortunately and it was a real pain figuring out what I needed to make them. I believe the kit from FBM and the one from Tune Plus is meant to delete that factory line and hook directly to the back of the HPFP. The lines are all female fittings 5/16 for the stock male quick disconnects and 3/8 fittings for the male ethanol sensor quick disconnects. Just incase anyone buys a kit without lines like I did here is what you need to make the lines. 2 feet of good quality 3/8 rubber fuel line. cut into two lengths. one about 14", one about 10" 3/8 straight dorman 800-082 14 " line 5/16 to 3/8 straight 800-084. 14 " line 5/16 to 3/8 elbow dorman 800-092 10 " line 3/8 elbow dorman 800-086 10 " line SS hose clamps ( I used Dixon MAH-4 7/32 to 5/8 ) The hardest part of this install was getting that metal quick disconnect apart and getting that line through the firewall gromet.

I am not sure if the FBM kit was designed to tap directly into the HPFP, if FBM could elaborate more on this it would help. I have not attempted to thread the fuel line directly to the HPFP. My setup is a little different for others because I have an AUX Fuel system installed on my car.

Where do you find the tunes for the wga? Are you having it professionally tuned? Or are you using the Cobb tunes?

I have it tuned professionally by Stratified. I would suggest getting a Pro-tune or a flashtune from your preferred tuner: whether that is JST, Stratified, FreakTune, or Tune +.

The car requires a tune to run the Wastegate actuator and requires an Ethanol tune when you are going to put 30% or more Ethanol into the car.

Fyi, you can connect the pump directly to the WGA. You don't need a vacuum tube.

Hi mr, good video, but i have a question for you if possible: Is possible install the IWG75 12 psi without modify map? Map in my car is Mountune M380. preload must be same how to original WG?? I hope in your answer. Best regards

When you install the IWG75 you have to get a tune for it, without a tune you run the risk of damage due to the increase in boost pressure increase as well as the increase of airflow because the Wastegate will be held closed longer; to allow for more boost. Please do not run the WGA without a tune, without a tune you run a higher risk to damaging your motor

@@xtr970 preload should be an additional 5mm from the hole of the WGA arm and the prong of the wastegate on the turbo. If you don’t want to adjust the WGA when it’s on the turbo, you may adjust it by measurement: 5 5/8 inches (measured from the center of the WGA arm to the Base of the WGA).

EcoBeast 360 I believe it does, but I will have to measure it and find out if it is 52mm.

The way that I have it setup; the power wire is wired up to a 15A fuse that is in the passenger footwell, which enables the system to turn off at the same time as all the other accessories that run off of that panel turns off.

@@christiancristancho4864 I believe they are 6AN fuel braided fuel lines for the FBMS Kit. I had to use the Adaptors to make it work for the AN lines to fit on the OEM fuel lines that were on the RS, the links to the adaptors are in the description if you are wanting to do the same Ethanol Sensor Kit for the RS.

@@christiancristancho4864 Which one are you currently looking for? If you are looking for the individual fuel lines, I am not sure where to look for them. the fuel lines that we used were part of the Full Blown Motorsports Ethanol Sensor Kit, the link is in the description.

Did this ethanol sensor give you real flex fuel (self adjusting tune)?

Malleable Curve the content sensor doesn’t give you the ability to have a Self-tuning capability, I have to switch the tune from Pump Gas to a designated Ethanol Content percentage established by tune parameters. You would need to change the fuel line on the back of the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) and plump in a Flex Fuel sensor into the ECU in order to run a self-adjusting tune in relation to how much Ethanol is in the fuel system. The reason why the HPFP hose that needs to be replaced is because the hose is not designed to have straight E85 flowing through it because it will corrode and deteriorate, which can result in a fire.

What retaining clip did you end up using? I ended doing the same thing and losing mine. Dealership said there were $55 each for one. Doesn’t make sense.

chucka187 you can utilize the same type of clip as the one from the factory (e-clip) or a snap-ring, which we have used in this video. Both types of clips are available at your local AutoZone or Orielly’s, they sell them as a kit of various sizes for you to choose from for about $3 a Kit if I am recalling it correctly.

Yes, the measurement of 5 5/8" can be applied to the wastegate actuator if it is for the Focus RS. The car that I have done this for my Focus RS as well as Jesse's RS, seen in the video. I have utilized this measurement as the standard pre-load for setting the TurboSmart Wastegate Actuator, I hope this was helpful.

It should be, the gas lines are routed the same as well as the location of the grommet that I used to route the wires into the cabin for the gauge

I think it's this kit for RS/ST based on the purple connectors and Zeitronix gauge: fullblownmotorsports.com/full-blown-ford-focus-rs-ethanol-content-kit. I'm considering that one and a $150 cheaper one without physical gauge and just a Bluetooth app.

The method of getting back there, yes. To set preload, I would like to say so. However I would measure the factory wastegate actuator of the ST for reference and then set the preload at that measurement.
