Should always use the same screws that come off your guitar when installing strap locks. That way you run less of a risk of stripping out the holes.

That's why I dont Iike the new schallers, you have to drill a new hole, these are cheaper and easier
@andrewowen85664 жыл бұрын
Totally wrong! Only the new screws supplied with the Fender replacement kit will work. If you use the old ones the screw head remains proud on the clear and you can’t snap the strap on.

Step 1. Buy two bottles of Grolsch beer. Step 2. Drink the beer. Step 3. Place the red rubber washers from the lid over the strap on the strap button. It costs like $4-5 for this solution and it's rock solid. You just saved some $$$. You're welcome.

The screws on my guitar and the screws in the kit are different. The screws on my guitar are larger and have a coarse thread, they will not fit the whole in the locking mechanism. The smaller fine thread screw they sent will not tighten so it doesn’t secure the locks. Only alternative I see is to enlarge the whole in the mechanism. Any suggestions?
@seabyrd19483 жыл бұрын
Had to remove the factory screws as heads had a too high profile preventing the locking mechanism from working. Used the screws that came with the locks and they worked fine.
@gjinksjinks859411 ай бұрын
Same thing with me, plus the holes in my straps were to small to let the button go thru; had to use a way larger leather punch to enlarge the strap holes! They didn't bother mentioning this could happen in the video.

How to... "I don't have a wrench with me" he says in the shop. (Oh, but he DOES have a wax block....LOL)
@edlopez57682 жыл бұрын
The screw it comes with must be used. I tried reusing my old screws and the head of the screw protrudes and causes problems.. the screw must fall into the hole for the locking mechanism to work. Also there is an orientation to the button that goes on the guitar. As well as the straps. Personally I don't care for a twisted strap. Most people should be able to figure this out but I figured it be a good idea to post it.

I currently have a jackson bass where the screw for the strap button backs out constantly. Would the prevent that or would I have the same issue?
@REBELSCL3 жыл бұрын
Not to sound strange here, but this isn't nearly as easy as portrayed here. I just spent 45+ minutes just installing the strap portion of this system on a single thickness genuine Fender "ball-glove" leather strap. The guitar that I was readying the strap for is a new Ultra Stratocaster. The screw in portion comes already installed from Fender. The strap ends aren't particularly thick leather..I have several straps that are padded and are thicker at the ends. I ended up having to get out a pair of pliers to try to compress the washer so that I could get the nut started. After finally getting the nut to catch a thread I then used a ratchet to tighten the nut. Make sure that you've confirmed your strap length before installing the bottom lock.. I'd hate to have to repeat this process...
@mickeysticks3 жыл бұрын
Same guitar, same issue!

Just been through this exact process on my ultra II. I ended up scratching them up so badly in the process I've just ordered Schaller instead, twice as much thread, zero stress

Waxing the screw is a bad idea. Not only is it unnecessary, it will increase the likelihood that the screw will loosen over time, and will prevent glue from adhering in the future, should you need to use the "toothpick and woodglue" repair to the hole.
