If you are wondering how to join a coaxial cable outside and ensure that it is weatherproof and waterproof, watch this video. This video will show you how to repair a damaged TV coaxial cable. This is very common when an outside coaxial cable has been cut doing the gardening.
Tools you will need:
Stanley Blade or Ultility Knife
Sidecutters
Not essential - 11mm spanner or adjustable spanner or pliers
Materials You will Need:
F Connectors
F coupler
Amalgamating Tape (Maybe a small drop of silicone grease also)
Step by step guide
1) Install F connectors on both ends of the coaxial cable
2) Screw both F connectors into the F coupler and tighten with spanner or pliers.
3) Remove plastic covering from amalgamating tape.
4) Starting on the coaxial cable before the join begins. Pull amalgamating tape to twice its length and wrap around join, each time overlapping existing tape but extending further over join.
5) Repeat wrapping process until join is completely covered by tape and pull tape to snap.
6) Not essential, but it's a good idea to smear join with silicone grease afterwards to ensure weatherproofing.

Thanks Smart Aerials for taking the time to put this together. A great help as I'm looking to replace an unsightly external junction box. Have you thought of selling all the bits as a kit?!

My understanding is that the amalgamating Tape is not UV stable. The connection should be over-wrapped with Scotch Super 33+ electrical tape to protect the amalgamating tape from the sun.

Not sure about that .If you Google "is self amalgamating tape UV resistant" it says it is .

When you do this make sure you have some breading wire, some cut it off thinking all you need it the centre core, but you must have the breading wire, also make sure none of the breading wire is touching the centre core, not even one fine strand, as this will also affect your signal, Derricks Digital Aerials.

No I'm afraid not, not easily anyway. You will need to fit a Hybrid LNB on your satellite dish and run a third cable to feed your Smart TV. I hope this helps. Tom

Can you make actions in your videos clearer - for example, the presenter refers to F plugs and holds them up but far too quickly for someone unfamiliar with them to see them (they are also obscured by his hand). He then puts them down outside camera shot, so we still can't see them. Presenting items needs to be done more slowly and clearly, and keep them in camera shot afterwards.

If you could just shoot the video of what your doing with the coax & connectors that you rapidly wave in front of the camera. We don’t need to see you, or an outside window, your computer. Just what your trying to explain. Otherwise it’s a huge distraction.

These videos are a bit of fun really. Yes, we could see a top-down version on a plain background, with nice zooms to the intricate parts (F-connectors, the wire-stripping task), and a slightly less frenetic pace, but it wouldn't be so enjoyable. From Australia, I enjoyed the East End accent. All good, got what I needed and had a fine viewing experience. Thanks. PS. What's the "Favourite Worst Nightmare" BTW?

Please never use a twist on fitting or connection. Use a compression fitting or crimp connector. You need a ground and a crimp to keep ingress or regress out of your line. Ignore this guy
