Thanks a lot for these exercises. That seems to be a nice training plan! My background is more in Shaolin kung fu, and I would be interested in Chang Quan. I have questions. Please excuse me in advance if they are silly, I am just wondering: - Squats: would it be more interesting to do less repetitions (like 6), but with a higher weight? Actually, jumps are explosive moves, and I heard heavier weights are better for fast-twitch muscle fibers. The problem: if one does that at the beginning of all the exercises, the rest of the training might not be as effective... So all in all, squats with moderate weight might serve as a nice, serious warm-up. What do you think? - Single leg hyperextension (exercise #4): that's one interesting move, that I have never seen before! Perhaps it is very specific to Chang Quan training? What is exactly the purpose of it? I'm eager to know! I'm looking forward to your feedback about these questions! By the way, the exercise for the shin flex with elastic bands is simple but great (never thought doing that!!)

Hi Erwin! Thank you for your comment. Your questions are great. This video is a bit outdated to my current knowledge. So I will reply according to my current understanding and once I start uploading more videos I will address this again. Regarding Squats: Yes, you shouldn't do them at the beginning because it will drain your energy. If you're training just for jumping you should start with plyometric exercises (basically all types of jumps, sprinting, ...) and leave the compound exercises (squats, deadlifts) for after that. But you can still use them as a warmup if you dont go too heavy nor too long series and reps. Now about the weight, it depends a lot. Like you said, jumps are explosive movements and it's currently accepted that it can be translated by a power output (po) equation: po = force x acceleration. Now force can be developed through strength training in which you can utilize higher loads. The problem is when you overtrain like that and your speed (the acceleration part) decreases. Then you get a lot of strength but you can't jump. Everything needs to take place at a certain time and it must be planned as a clycle. This is a very complex topic, this is just an overview. Single leg hyperextension: great exercise, it reaaaally focuses on the hamstring and trains the hip extension which is usually overlooked when training for jumps. Jumping is a triple extension movement: ankles, knees and hip. This is a hip-dominant exercise. Hamstrings are difficult to train. Nordic curls are also great but they are extremely difficult to achieve, so i would recomend progressing slowly with these. Hope I helped a little. Thank you again. Cheers
