Yakkelberry and I head to the Haw river to get his whitewater career cranked up. He has a pretty solid roll from lake practice. Now to put some flat water concepts into motion on some moving water! Day one, we tackle perhaps the most useful skill set on a whitewater river, catching an eddy! He is a pretty quick study and the improvement comes quickly. Come on out and watch Adam as he dives into the world of whitewater kayaking! So fun! If you are new to whitewater give this video a look - we were all there once!

Every time I watch your videos I take away a new tip that helps me improve. I now realise I was placing too much emphasis on the placement of the pivot stroke thanks to this video. Thanks for the content Pete. Best instructional channel out there.

This video, and others giving details on catching eddies are AWESOME!! Due to watching them I was able to catch some eddies and surf some waves on the French Broad during a trip last week. Not only catching the eddies, but also peeling out effectively. I was in a Dagger Stratos 14.5. Pretty nimble for a bigger boat. So much fun to apply what I have learned while watching the videos!! I hope some day to get some time in a WW Kayak.

Thanks for these how to type videos. I'm going to be taking some lessons in a couple weeks, I've never been in a whitewater kayak. I'm looking forward to the lessons and your videos are helping me feel like I know what I need to do. Now I just need to learn how to do them. Thanks Pete

Thanks for the great vids! Loved the part where you cut the tree out of the river. Any chance you can do a video on how to safely remove strainers from a river? I want to cut some out of our local rivers, but can’t find much info on how to do it safely.

Thanks Dennis! Good question! There may be a formal doctrine on how to do that...but I just employ common sense and proper techniques for both the saw and being in the river near wood. You gotta not cut yourself, while not letting the log crush you or get swept into the log...There is a lot going on in one of those situations and each is so different from another. In this case, the water was shallow enough to maneuver easily and the bedrock formations allowed a mechanical advantage for opening up the cuts by using the current in my favor...Just go SLOW and keep your brain working on all cylinders.
