I have really enjoyed the new friendships in the crew as well as seeing them progress as well. What a great spring/summer!!! Wait until you see what we have coming up! It will all be worth it!

I learned the "don't go into a hole sideways" lesson the hard way about a week ago. I been trying to learn at the USNWC because we don't have any cool local rivers like this. I went sideways into a rapid called shutdown trying to work my way left on the wilderness channel. Couldn't keep my edge up and got taken for one heck of ride. It was a short and violent lesson. Love the videos and channel. I learn something every time I watch.
@RiverKingsKayak4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, I am very familiar with shutdown. We used to spend some quality time in there learning how to hole surf and how to get out of a hole. Keep getting in that thing...lots of learning to be done in there! LOL

Love your videos, great inspiration, and I am pretty sure you might be able to help me. I am planning an epic kayak trip on the Mekong River from the Golden Triangle in Northern Thailand, all the way to the South China Sea. Question is, what touring kayak would you choose for such a trip? Mind you I am 6.1 and 230lb. Will encounter up to class 2 rapids on the 3000 km journey, need portage a few places, and need to improvise genuine transport both to and from and during trip. Will not attempt to cross the waterfalls by the cambodian border. ;-) I am looking at 3 options, but open for ideas. Aquaglide XL Blackfoot HB kayak (Already got it) Jackson Karma RG (trained for 2 years in it), Atlantis14 (touring produced in Thailand, can get it cheap).
@RiverKingsKayak4 жыл бұрын
This sounds like an amazing trip. I would suggest two factors for your consideration. #1 comfort. #2 speed. If you are mostly in class 2 or below, then performance related to maneuverability in current will be of a minimal importance. I would select the boat you are most comfortable in for long periods of time that you can cover serious ground in. If you have a slow boat, you will be fighting that the whole time. Hope that helps!
@BackonTrailasia4 жыл бұрын
@@RiverKingsKayak It does help. You are right. I should not choose a boat easy to transport a few times, and compromise the 8-10 hours a day I am working in it. Thanks a lot for prompt reply.

So did pete move up to the Remix from the sidekick because he got too big, or you think the remix is a better boat as a whole. I have a 9 year old who is going to be going down river in a Sidekick this summer. I know he will out grow it eventually so i am constantly looking for his "next boat"
@RiverKingsKayak3 жыл бұрын
We started in the sidekick as I felt it would be the best boat for him. But I have been noticing that Kirk Eddlemon's son Alex had been paddling a remix 47. We found a lime green one which is Pete's favourite colour. I bought it on a whim to compare. Turns out there's no comparison the remix is a far superior kids boat. There's nothing wrong with the sidekick and to start the extra volume will be his friend. However, when it is time to start getting aggressive and really fine tuning technique the remix is the way to go.
