Fascinating and fun to watch. That's a great trick and tip with closing the bag up with no air. This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Thank you for the fun, relaxing and informative video. I love the flavor of holy basil dried for tea and I love Thai basil in Thai food. I would grow copious amounts of it if I could.

There are lots of comments saying thanks, I'll try this - but none saying if it actually works! I've tried various tips for storing Thai basil but nothing has worked so far - so I'll try this and comment after :) Although I would have thought that boiling the leaves would remove all the flavour... we'll see.

Thank you for the info. Very clear instructions. May I know what is the benefit or advantage of washing, boiling the leaves before freezing? I also saw a few videos on storing basil but the instructor just kept the fresh leaves in the air-tight freezer pack; some added water into the pack. The leaves were not washed, boiled like what you suggested. I would be very interested to know your opinion. Thank you.
@ChefRamidaThaiFoodExpert Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the instructions clear :) Washing and blanching basil leaves before freezing them can help to preserve their color, texture, and flavor. Washing the leaves before blanching can help remove any dirt or debris on the leaves. Blanching, which involves briefly boiling the leaves in water, can help to deactivate the enzymes that can cause the basil to deteriorate over time. This can help to preserve the color and texture of the basil leaves when they are frozen. Additionally, blanching can also help to lock in the flavor of the basil, which can help to ensure that it tastes as fresh as possible when you thaw it out. That being said, it is possible to freeze basil without washing or blanching it first, but the quality of the frozen basil may not be as good as when the leaves are blanched. Some people prefer to store basil without washing or blanching it first because they feel that it can help to retain more of the basil's natural oils and flavor. However, this method may not be as effective at preserving the basil's color and texture. Ultimately, the decision on whether or not to wash and blanch basil before freezing it depends on your personal preference and how you plan to use the basil. If you plan to use it for cooking and want to ensure that the basil stays fresh as long as possible, washing and blanching it before freezing may be the best option. If you plan to use it for making pesto or other recipes where the texture and appearance of the basil are less important, you may be able to get away with freezing the basil without washing or blanching it first.

@@ChefRamidaThaiFoodExpert Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to provide an answer to my question, Chef Ramida! It was not only informative but was also well explained. I am not a good cook (I am actually not fond of long prep in the kitchen) but I also do not like to just take tips "as is" without knowing some facts. Now, I can decide better based on fact-based information. 🙂

Thank you for sharing, we have our own herb garden and taking care of the herbs my dad planted, throwing away the trimmings seems like a waste. Ill be sure to keep them fresher for longer next time. (I usually make basil pesto and from there use in recipes)

I use a straw in the corner to suck out air. Takes about 3 seconds. Squeeze the top around the straw, exhale all your air, put your mouth around the straw and breathe in. Remove the straw quickly and zip it shut!

Great tip. I'm going to go buy 50 lbs. of Basil and give it a try LOL. Who needs to save basil for that long unless you have a huge amount of Basil growing in your garden. Most people don't, most people don't know how to grow basil. And what about the texture obviously not the same as fresh but I'll give it a try and the frosted after a month just to see how it comes out.

What’s the purpose of boiling the basil? I can imagine you will loose a lot of flavor with that. Can’t you just soak in water and skip the boiling step?
