@TheKneesovertoesguy I am 45 years old with osgood-schlatter disease since the age of 12. Do you think there is any way to increase funktion and mobility combined with osd pain management or is the damaged tendon attachment on the tibia something that just can't handle the forces put upon it? I am not American and doctors in my country refuse to do any treatment for this and just advise rest.

In my 60s and go to the gym 4-5x times a week and in good shape for my age. Incredibly of all the things at a gym I found one of the best things for my legs and core is a simple low chair or stool. Sit, get up, repeat 10x-40x times depending on weight. Legs have never been so strong. Saw it on an 'over 50' home workout channel.

Really dope to see this content. I do squats 5x5 this week was 245lbs, ass to grass. But its frustrating to see kids come in, with smaller legs than me, doing 335 going to 90 degree legs (basically half a rep) then look at me like im weak. makes me doubt myself. EDIT: one thing I like about this is I can now hang out at the bottom with weight on my shoulders. So when I squat to failure, and I cant get up i just- rest at the bottom. And then ditch the weight. No risk. No pain. Easy.

You have a lovely daughter. Anyhow, Amazing advice. The advice was no way past 90 degrees when I first started squatting. Coming all the down allowed me to reduce the amount of weight needed, develop between mobility and experience no knee pain. The knees over toes is something more recently I started however. I found that really helped develop my quads. Putting the muscle in that stretched position turns out is the most important for growth

I can still squat at 74, having simply never stopped using that ability to access lower cupboards and drawers. But my personal trainer has helped me to strengthen my legs much more than before, because he has me do so many types of squats-prisoner squats, sumo squats with kettlebells, straight squats with two 35-lb and then 45-lb weight plates, and my favorite, the belt squat machine. Squats are awesome!

I (and probably also my childhood physiotherapist) would love to know why I could never squat. I made a physiotherapist frustrated because I went to her for 6 months after a gymnastics injury (badly sprained ankle). The major exercise she wanted me to do to was either squatting or the same bending exercise which the guy in the video performs on the chair. She discovered that I physically couldnt do it because my heel tendons seemed too short. She was like "no worries, we will stretch them out over time!". But after 6 months of stretching and stabilizing my feet there was no improvement at all, just pain. She measured my mobility over time and the improvement was literally 0. She got so frustrated that she gave up on me. Is that normal? :p Do you encounter people that are not physically able to do this?
@TheKneesovertoesguyАй бұрын
Sorry to hear about this mobility issue. The tightness in the ankle could be a concern here, which can hopefully be addressed with more direct strengthening. Movements like the tibialis raise or KOT Calf Raise will work great for training the ankle dorsiflexion needed to squat. Even before using the split squat. Try doing a reverse step-up with the heel flat. Will require a lower gradient of ankle mobility🫡
