my 1990 yz 250 if you give it a lil throttle the kickstarter comes up and slams and breaks the case everytime

Wish mine would start with 3 kicks, hell ten kicks would be great, 20 even. Takes a good 10 minutes to unscrew the plug, 1 minute to inspect it, and ten more to screw it back in that tight place. Is it easier to take the tank off? New rings makes it hard.

Or you could have a machine that can simply start with no throttle or choke like mine. And first or second kick.

Yes, but I would have to pay money for a bike like that, The guy in the video gave me this one for free, so I shot the video so I will remember how to get it started. Someday we will all have electric motorcycles that automatically take us where we want to go, while we play with out cell phones, but I prefer the old school way, where starting the bike is a challenge.

Why do these old yz250s not bite on the kickstart right at the top? You hardly get a proper kick on it! The foot peg is slap bang in ur way as wel ! I’ve just fully rebuilt mine n can get it started at all, changes stator and coil n have a very week spark? Any ideas?

Older YZ units before 1999 used a spring tension design kickstart engagement VS ratchet style gear mechanism used in later years. get a multimeter so you can check your stator ohm as per manual spec.

@@MG-up5mh Cheers for the reply, I done an ohms test and bought a new stator plate which gave me a good spark but not it’s flooding and not firing 😡one thing after another with this bike! I’ve fully restored it n looks mint now just can’t get the bloody thing to run!

It is a two stroke. You need to put two stroke oil in the gas.

Only four strokes run straight gas, good rule of thumb for newbies look at the exhaust leaving the engine if its fat and drops down 2 stroke if its skinny and go's to the side 4 stroke "works 90% of the time but always good to run serial number" also obviously 4 strokes will have a oil fill but never a good idea to pour random fluids in holes unless you know your bike.

​@hoohoohoblin This is actually a 93. I think I should point out though, the guy in the video twisting the throttle a few times before kicking, is just wasting his time. These carbs don't use accelerator pumps and no extra fuel is going in the engine. By twisting the throttle before kicking, the throttle slide is just going up and down. That isn't actually doing anything. He's probably successfully used that on older cars with carburetors, where the accelerator pump will shoot fuel into the intake, aiding a cold start.

Thank god it’s the idle noise 😂🤦🏽‍♂️ mines has the same noise and then it will go down. I thought my YZ250 leaned out again 😂 lol I found the tuner for the idling but don’t want to mess with it
