How To Kitbash Indomitus Terminators for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy

In this video, I am going to show you how I converted up a Dark Angels Terminator kit, into a generic legion indominus terminator squad for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Even though I decided to use the Dark Angel Terminator squad for this conversion, the steps used in this video would would work to turn any warhammer 40k terminator squad into a heresy appropriate unit.
This Horus Heresy Kitbash utilizes some moderately advanced techniques but there is nothing here that I dont think any hobbyist could tackle with a little bit of patience.

I bought this kit to do basically do something similar yesterday! I think they are the most recent terminator kit so I feel their poses are much better than standard space marine ones. Even if it saves some chopping and filing

@@AmnioticlyTanked I’m a fist player, and was planning on making half of the cataphractii in the age of darkness box as huscjarls (probably spelled wrong). So I used those combi-bolters after cutting off the hand on the indomitus

Originally DESIGNED during the Horus Heresy to replace the severe losses on both sides as the civil war dragged on, it is the pattern most commonly employed at present by the Adeptus Astartes because its template is held on many key Forge Worlds such as Mars. In the AFTERMATH of the Horus Heresy, the Ultramarines pioneered the widespread use of Indomitus Pattern Terminator Armour as their Legion was unable to replace the older patterns of Terminator Armour after the loss of many important Forge Worlds during the war. Though designed during the horus heresy, it would make more sense to see these in a scouring army .....though the siege of terra is included in the hh in writing ...its really the end of it ......hh was more the battles before the traitors reached the sol system....or half way into the sol system. Though having a few of these in a whole army is feasible but certainly not for forces built around the first half to three quarters of the hh as it hadn't dragged on enough to warrant them by that point.

You misrepresent. In the the aftermath bit was how the armor became popular among the chapter. Not that they were not used during HH. Besides everyone model latish heresy since that when the various legions had their identity more fleshed out.

Im really enjoying how they work mixed together. Get the best of both materials in that it is a little more "gummy" and sticky when sculpting but can still be sanded.

Nice Vid! As a fellow kit basher with the hobby knife... I've found putting a bandaid on end of thumb acts as a kind of thimble protecting the thumb from gashes when the plastic gives way easier then expected... not perfect but it def helps 🙂

I love those models and was strongly considering using them as well. The only issue I have is that they come partially sculpted onto their bases and I wanted my terminators to be on the necromunda bases.

@@AmnioticlyTanked the bases are a little annoying but you could probably fix that with some green stuff. They do make a really cool command squad. I’m going to use the current chaos marine box for my despoilers and the old 2nd Ed metal speeders for my speeders. The conversion you did was really cool, I certainly like it. I’ve never been a fan of the new terminator variants tbh and love the classic look.

I do too. I'm finding it hard to get things painted though, and still get new models done up and videos edited. One of my thoughts as been to do a painting video on some of these conversions, but I keep running into the issue that I am pretty much just following the schemes that I have already done painting videos on so I have no idea if people would want to see essentially the same content over again. Another option is to just do a showcase video then I go though 5 or 6 converted models in their finished state? Idk

Making your own rivets from PS rod or getting 1mm glass beads/ball bearings can also work.

I would have used the regular terminators back since the DW have those gothic vents I also like using 2 corvus hammer blunt parts per thunder hammer, it just look more polished

Thinking though this a bit more, I think I would still stick with this kit for the options it comes with, but would have use a little bit of greenstuff to remove the peak of the arched vent.

Seeing all the work you made by filling and choping details, I think you could put the new Chaos Terminators to use ? Their loadouts : big ancients Stormbolters, power claws have an ancient vibe that match well the HH, and they are, well bigger than any other Terminators so they would fit well with the new MkIV in my opinion. Have you considered using them ?

It definitely crosses my mind but I still think there would be a ton of chopping and filing as I would not want much of the armor trim on my models as I think its a bit too ornate for the feeling I am going for. I also already had a box of the death wing terminators in my pile of shame! I know that @serrated_sun over on IG is doing a similar conversion using the CSM terminator kit for his Sons of Horus though which look fantastic and fit the look he is going for perfectly. I do think the combi-bolters and other weapons would work really well though if I wanted to add more weapon options to this conversion.

I completely understand. The Deathwing kit is really awesome. There is also the Terminators from the Space Marine heroes although it would make an expensive squad ! I think I will try it myself with the Chaos ones, I really love those big chunky Terminator models they got. They look brutal and savage. Their feral aspect would match more with Space Wolves than any loyalist chapter though. Thank you for the reply and information about serrated_sun !

honestly the shields are beautifull but instead of cutting the original plastics i would have made a mould and duplicated em and then used the duplicated ones as the shields for the conversion

I had considered that, but ultimately I went this this approach as I find the molding and casting process really annoying to get to the level of detail that I want, and I find press-molding to be really hit and miss. It also helps that I have probably a dozen of these shields sitting around in my bits box!

A great way to save time is if you get the old indomitus torso front plates so you don’t have to cut the DA ones. Just depends what matter more to you: money or time

that's good but I don't think that Mark of terminator armor was in the heresy. it looks good in the heresy style but in my opinion it doesn't fit and looks like 40k tried to go back to heresy for some reason

I know there is a discuss somewhere in these comments about Indomitus armor in the heresy, but the consensus is that it was developed either right before or during the heresy and recent lore from games workshop mentions that it is easier to manufacture than either Tartaros or Cataphractii and as such got used as a stop gap replacement to fill in battlefield losses. Game Workshop also put out 30k rules specifically for indomitus terminator squads about 3 weeks ago which is what inspired me to make this squad.

I'm critically disappointed about the Horse Heresy. Everyone is so fond of saying that this is popular because you can use HH models in a normal Warhammer 40,000. But months go by, and I don't see any good conversions, I'm not interested in color schemes in the web. Everyone just copies the colors of the legions. It looks like it's a game for fat kids without imagination. This is not the Warhammer I came to years ago.
