I am surely not a fancy knitter and came across this extremely helpful tutorial a month or so ago. I just love how this blanket turns out! I make baby blankets for gifts. The instructions are easy to follow. The corners come out beautiful! Thank you for taking the time to help us!

This is by far my favourite pattern. I plan to knit these up in small squares with various colours and then sew all together to make one large blanket each for both of my daughters. I am wondering if anyone knows if it’s possible to somehow knit a heart or other type of pattern inside this square?
@sowoolly Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yep, there’s a technique called Intarsia, which allows us to make solid shapes inside the fabric in a different color. Unfortunately, I don’t have that tutorial in English yet, but in Spanish. Take a quick look just to see how it’s done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4vXpHh-rryWpsk

This is such a simple but pretty pattern! I have a question tho: What if you want a wider edge would I just increase the number of stitches I start with? Lmk!!
@sowoolly6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lee! To make a wider edge, you need to cast on more stitches, for example 8, and then knit 6 before the yarn over. When you decrease, knit 5, k2tog, yo. Please take a look of the written pattern on my website. You'll find the link below the video, on the description box. Good luck!!

Awesome video! How many stitches for a newborn blanket!
@sowoolly5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Cast on 4 stitches and keep knitting until it measures 90 cm / 35 in approximately. Then, start the decreases until you have 4 stitches again. This will get you a square blanket big enough for a newborn ;-)

Hello! I loved this pattern and have started knitting a small swaddle blanket. However, since I wanted slightly broader edges, I have knitted 5 stitches and then taken the YO for increasing the stitches thereafter. Now I am at the stage where I need to start decreasing the stitches. And I am so confused! Could you please help me with how my 'decrease stitch' knitting should be?

hi do you turn your work and how mean stitches you go before you start decreasing ?. thanks Mary
@sowoolly6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, the blanket is knitted flat, so yes, you have to turn your work every time you finish a row, no matter if it's a decrease or increase row ;D You can also take a look of the written instructions on my website: sowoolly.net/how-to-knit-a-baby-blanket-for-beginners-step-by-step/ Best, Carolina

Hello! Thank you for the video. I am very new to knitting so my question might not really be valid. How will a 35 inch blanket fit on US size 7 needle? How many cm long should the needle be? I have no clue if there is a workaround for fitting all the stitches on the needle as they increase.
@sowoolly6 жыл бұрын
Hello! It depends on the thickness of your yarn. Normally, the longest knitting straight needles are around 25 cm (9.8 in). So I think it is better for you to knit it with circular needles (you won't be knitting in the round, just flat as usual, but you can take advantage of the long cable ;)

Im really struggling with this, I have size 4mm needles and yarn and just want to know how many stitches I need before decreasing, measuring it doesn't help as the sizes automatically change all the time :( I just want to knit something worth knitting:(
@sowoolly4 жыл бұрын
How many stitches are you getting in 4 in / 10 cm?
@happygirly23004 жыл бұрын
@@sowoolly 18 stitches
@sowoolly4 жыл бұрын
@@happygirly2300 Then, if you want your blanket to measure 90 cm by 90 cm (or any other size), thi is what you need to do: Multiply 18 (the number of stitches you are getting per 10 cm)* 90 (the size of the blanket) and then divide the result by 10. 18*90/10=162 stitches more or less. When you get close to this amount of stitches, you can start decreasing. I hope this helps. Good luck!
@marydalton67766 жыл бұрын
hi ? do you turn your work . thanks marydalton

When you have stitches right to the end of the row you simply swap hands and repeat.
@zoebyram4786 жыл бұрын
Hey, I've noticed that when I'm decreasing my square the holes made when I knit two stitches yarn over and knit two stitches again are bigger than the holes made when increasing my work by just yearning over. Is this supposed to happen? I haven't dropped any stitches.
@sowoolly6 жыл бұрын
Maybe it happens because of how you pass the yarn to get the yarn over. Try to control the tension there...
@jadeb30785 жыл бұрын
Would this pattern work with bigger yarn and needles? X
@sowoolly5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jade, “beauty is on the eye of the beholder”. My suggestion is that you knit a swatch and see if you like it. I believe it will work, but it’s better if you like the swatch, before knitting the whole blankie 😉

It depends on the yarn. You can follow the recommendation of the manufacturer (on the label), but it's better to knit a swatch. For this swatch, I used cotton yarn worsted weight and 5 mm needles.

Take a look at the written instructions (you’ll find a link to my website, bellow the video, on the description box). If look at them closely (or the video), you’ll notice that first, we are increasing stitches on both sides. Then, when the desired width is reached, we start decreasing stitches, until we finish with the same amount we started (4 stitches) 😉
