This is by far one of the best knitting videos I've ever watched. So comprehensive and WAY more informative than most! Obtaining gauges and stitch counts have always intimidated me, or I've just been too lazy to put the effort in to learn, but this just made it seem like a breeze. Great video, love the end product!

I don’t even understand the explanation. You were talking about 25 inches for the gauge, so 50 stitches for the gauge and 30 stitches for 33 rows but I don’t understand what the gauge is and how you can in 50 stitches or how you came on 30 stitches and 33 rows for the sweater. Could someone explain? 🤷🏻♀️

You could probably do this without too much trouble, since it’s basically all rectangles. Just do a gauge swatch with the hook and yarn you want to use and follow the measurements of the top you’d like to use as a guide. For the neckline shaping it’s simple because it’s a square neckline, no increases or decreases needed. Seaming can be done with single crochets and slip stitch

as someone new to knitting i find patterns completely incomprehensible because i can't picture which part of the pattern corresponds to which bit of the sweater at all and the shortforms are confusing....so i've had this video open in a tab for over a month to keep coming back to every time i got to a new part of the sweater i made using this tutorial!!! despite doing my math wrong, i still made a sweater i'm super proud of for my first try and find super cute, and I feel like i've picked up transferable skills to make more stuff going forward, like picking up stitches to do sleeves and decreasing for cuffs -- thank you so much for this!

Hey YOU! You reading this thinking "this video is great, but surely *I* could never knit a whole sweater!" Do it. Just grab your yarn and your needles and get started. In way less time than you think, you're going to have a handmade sweater, and it's going to be way more fun than you think. I waited so long, and I love making sweaters. It's easier than you think!

Okay, so I have tons of yarn inherited from various sources, and I'd really like to try to knit a sweater using this method. Do you have any ways of gussing how much yarn you need for a project where there's not pattern telling you the yardage you need? I only ask because some of the yarn I have isn't really produced anymore, and the last thing I want is to start knitting and run out of yarn halfway through.
