@donnas237510 ай бұрын
Unfortunately you have to research some tricks for larger heads, cause these machines actually produce a snug fit otherwise. (Such as how to rib the band, etc.) I love making headbands because you can increase it lengthwise.

If you're getting yarn from a yarn store they often have a ball winder and swift that anybody can use to wind their Hanks into center pull balls!

Was good to see someone using fingering weight yarn to make a hat. I’ve only used #4 worsted weight because I like to make them reversible. That doesn’t work with fingering weight yarn because you can see through layers too easily. But a solid color hat with fingering weight yarn would be fine. I love your results and will investigate this approach. And it probably makes a more lightweight stretchable hat, right? Thanks for the great video & incentive!!

If you still want to use your hanks of yarn, you can put one around the back of a chair to keep it from tangling as you wind into a ball. (there are things called umbrella swifts and ball winders -- if you are into buying yarn from small dyers/independent fiber artists, most sell in hanks). to untangle that sky-blue hank, you have to do it by hand, but it can be done esp while watching TV. HTH!

@annesummers09 Жыл бұрын
Great video. It only has 46 needles? My pattern calls for 96 cast on stitches. How does that work? It looks like the hats it makes are very loose and not very snug.
@bethanykoch2789 Жыл бұрын
It's loose because of the weight of yarn he used (fingering, size 1). This creates a very loose/open fabric on this machine. I have used a sport and DK yarn (size 3, and size 4) to make a tighter beanie. They are very thick though because of the dual layers. I would not use any bigger yarn than a size 4 though as chunkier yarn tends to be too thick for the machine to push the stitches off and you end up knitting two together or dropping stitches entirely.

Can you change the width/circumference on this machine? I'd like to make a beanie for someone who has trouble finding any that will fit him bc of his thicc head. (They always say one size fits all but we know that's not the case.) These look pretty slim fitting as well. Is there any option to change that?
@wuthluis Жыл бұрын
It's a combination of yarn and gauge. If you use thicker yarn and the lower settings on the "tension" it results on a stretchier fabric. Because you cannot change the number of stitches (48) that would be the best way go work around. But definitely having a play with it would be my call.
@cubeography Жыл бұрын
you can actually manually wind a hank of yarn into a ball you just need a toilet paper roll or some similar cylindrical object and a chair.

Is there any way you could make a reversible beanie? 🤔 I’m so curious
@GloryAllan Жыл бұрын
It is reversible ☺️
@antibodyarmy Жыл бұрын
if you want 2 colors, just divide your total rows by half, then switch colors at that interval perhaps with a darker color between two contrasting colors like black separation for 5-10 rows for a grey/tan reversible. Dean and beans sock machines describes how to change yarn mid project "Changing CSM Yarn", different machine but essentially the same process for this machine. other options would be to make one full beanie to your desired size, to find how many rows you like, then unravel the project for a total length/weight and dye your own yarn in two tones.

Is there a way to have the top become gradually „rounder“? At least that’s how my nicer store bought beanies look like. There doesn’t seem to be this scrunch at the top…
@unfltrdpassion Жыл бұрын
I don't have one yet.. Just added to my cart on Amazon but I've been making hats and masks out ribbed fabric for a while now.... If you have a sewing machine or serger you can round the top/crown edges out just how you want them easily. Hope that helps... 🤷🏿♂️
@antibodyarmy Жыл бұрын
I think what you want to know is how to wedge the top of your hat. if you are okay with a single layer beanie it shouldn't be too hard on this machine, there are wedging tutorials out there. if you a dual layered beanie to wedge closed like store bought ones, and don't want sewing seams and a nice neat look a dual cylinder machine is what you'd be looking for, but those are a lot more expensive and tend to be professional/business oriented. the machine in this video is essentially a beginners test machine to see if your into the hobby or for kids, they are heavily advertised towards kids because these are good learning machines and aren't necessarily the most durable. My sister had one of these and never used it, and I gave it a shot as a teenager the mechanism broke after the 4th scarf. I'm sure they are better now than 15 years ago now being at nearly 1/8th the cost because there are better plastics these could be made of now, and china has better QC then back then. If you have a 3d printer there are printable CSM machines that are going to be better quality than this with metal latched knitting needles entirely customizable to your needs from below 22 slot to 90+ slot cylinders.
@bethanykoch2789 Жыл бұрын
There are tutorials that show how to take the live stitches off the machine and onto needles. This allows you to then knit stitches together gradually decreasing the stitch count (makes the hole smaller) and keeping that rounded look instead of cinched. I don't know of a way you can do it in the round on this machine.
