I agree with this so much. I am pretty new to sewing but I already have a thread cutter - awesome thing when you are threading and rethreading your machine and the obvious - scissors, ruler. And of course - clips. They are so, so great. Additionally, you can create seam allowance with them and you don't need to take them off when sewing. I sew small scale so it is live saving. I would also mention that pins can be long and short - short pins are great for details, long pins, if used vertically, like you do - make the pinning much easier as you can gather more fabric at once. For chalk option I'd add pastel pencils - one is enough for a long time and you can sharpen it with an exacto knife. I haven't tried the heat activated markers (they disappear when ironed) but I know people tend to use them as well. I am also waiting for a rotary knife, which I think will come in handy while cutting delicate fabrics. It's a real pain in the butt, have done it already and although successful - I have better things to do.

Is there any literature regarding fabrics that a beginner should read? Like a fabric bible of sorts.

While I appreciated the curated list of items. And even the branded items. Paying an extra $12 for shipping seemed excessive. I appreciate your videos, and subscribe and watch most of them. But spending an extra 20% for some clips, chalk, ruler, tape over just going to the local store seemed a bit excessive. I'm happy to do it cause I can afford to. But you should work out a way to make it less impactful for others.

I just bought my first sawing machine and was looking for help on how to get started. After watching Brother official video your video was recommended. Thank you for the clean and straight forward instructions! The tips are great! Now I feel much more ready to patch up my jeans. :)

A bit sad you didnt review a Bernina, and i know very little but feel like weighting by people whove used multiple machines makes sense but it risks ignoring a brand/machine so good people stick with it their whole life..

Hello. Just spent hours on youtube doing research on what sewing machine to get. Just bought the Singer 4423. Im really keen on learning how to sew and have a number of projects in mind. Thank you so much for your very clear and informative videos - there is a lot in them for me to learn/use. A bit selfish, but wish me luck. All the very best and peace, happiness and prosperity. i want to follow this, but i also don't want to spend AU115 on a pair of pants so i've been trying to find the fabric myself but it appears not a single fucking shop has 100% cotton twill in a colour i want. it's unbelievable how everything is synthetic now and i refuse to wear clothes made of plastic

Great stuff. I think there is a great deal of value though in just giving “beta version 1” a go. You’ll have a laundry list of lessons and mistakes to fix for version 2. Iterate iterate iterate is my learning style. Just don’t use the expensive materials until version 5 lol.

Hey man! I'm doing this with puffer material. It's like polyester on the outside, stuffed with polyester and cotton on the inside. Is it better, in my case, to do the eye part before closing it?

I have been using a Singer 4452 for 5 years now. It is essentially the same machine with a few more stitches. I love it. I really pushed it and made a heavy leather work apron for a woodworker. It did great but you couldn't do a lot of that on this machine. I ended up buying a semi-industrial walking foot machine for my leatherwork. However I get more use out of my Singer Heavy Duty and it is my favorite machine to sew on. As a side note, I am so tired of haters on the internet who constantly put down Singer sewing machines as low quality and unreliable. You know as well as I do that that is not the case. And yes, the Heavy Duty line really is heavy duty for a domestic sewing machine. No domestic machine is the same as an industrial, but that is for a different sewist doing a different job. There is a reason that everyone knows the Singer name. P.S. I love your videos. They are well presented and so informative!

In 1963, in first Year High School, since I transfered mid-Year to another city, I ended up in a required crafts class which had to be tailoring, since all other craft classes were full. It started off an unusual sequence of events. After learning the basics, I began using my aunt's hand-crank model Singer, and later my mom's pedal equipped one. Fast forward to now - I have a Singer model 4452. For a short period I had a brother el-cheapo model which was a hand-out when I couldn't afford anything better. I love my Singer 4452. I am not a pro, but a hobbyist .. do my own alterations, my night-wear, bags, and miscellaneous stuff.

Singer endorsement: If I remember correctly I think the publicity on the Singers mention of how much metal they use under that plastic shell. (Check the singer website. The 6600C is on sale for less than $300.) BTW, I'm the proud owner of 2 Singer 66es from 1931 and 192*, both fully functional. They have tension and length controls, not much else.

My sister has been sewing for quite a while, and I took on my first cosplay project earlier this year and found that I really really liked sewing when it came to that part of it! Just found your channel earlier today, and I've been binging your videos learning as much as I can! Planning on ordering that Singer 4423 in the next few days as a Christmas gift to myself. I need a new creative hobby and I think I just might have found it. So I just wanted to say thank you! And also I love your video style so much!
