Hi Irina, Would you say to add one extra stitch to the pattern as you slip the first stitch to keep the edge clean?

Hi Samantha, let’s say you knit a scarf in garter stitch, you have a number of stitches in between the two edge stitches. Those edge stitches are knitted at the end of the row and slipped off at the beginning of the row. This way one edge stitch on each side corresponds to two rows, they are sort of stretched to make the edges look neater. No need to add stitches - if you do you will have an increase and the scarf will grow wider. I hope I understood your question, please let me know.

I personally like Icelandic bind off (I show in the Don Valley butterfly shawl video) or any other way you like
