I am glad you like the tutorial! I think both will work for brioche too. You might want to check which looks better - to start brioche right after c/o or do one row of regular 1x1 ribbing as a setup. For b/o - the same - do right after the last brioche row or do one row of 1x1 rib and then b/o. I experimented with a twisted stitch ribbing and found that one regular 1x1 row after Italian c/o helped to get a neater edge. I have a video about that. 😊

I made my first beret using this tutorial more than a year ago. The finished result was too loose, so I set it aside with plans to give it away. This Christmas I wanted to make a hat and remembered this video. So I found it again and made the beret in chunky yarn for my daughter in less than two days. But it was too floppy also. I had the idea to rip back the ribbing and do just one more round of decreases. That was all it took! I stayed up until 2am finishing it so she could take it back home with her. So then I dug out my first one and took it down two decreases more than suggested (9 stitches in each of the 8 sections). It still needed a firm bind off, the fabric was so stretchy, but now it fits great! I just wanted to add that as a tip in case anyone else had the same problem.

Hi, I knitted this beret (did not finish); I followed your instructions to the "t", and I am an average knitter, I don't knit tight and I don't knit loose. I used the recommended needle size, and yarn. I ended up way too large!
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 12 күн бұрын
Hi, if the overall diameter is too large, I would recommend less increase rounds before the straight section. If it’s the head opening that’s too wide, then make more decrease rounds before the ribbing. However, since you didn’t finish, the ribbing part should make the head opening smaller. Hope this helps.

How many skeins of Noro sock yarn was used for this sweater? I am contemplating buying yarn in anticipation of your releasing the pattern.
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 12 күн бұрын
I used about 550 grams, so that would be 5.5 skeins, so round it up to 6. But it is for my body size, for a smaller or bigger complexion it would change. Also, it’s if you use Noro Silk Garden Sock Solo (like your hat, which is actually a chic colour). Noro Silk Garden Sock stripy yarn may be different - you may need to work with the colour ways so that the stripes are where you want them to be for a flattering effect. That will consume more yarn. For example, I bought 2 extra skeins of the "red stripes" so that I could shift the stripes the way I wanted, and I also completely eliminated one stripe colour because it looked better without it. You can view that sweater on my Instagram page. However, I wouldn’t recommend buying the yarn until I publish the pattern. It may take time for me to make it ready. Unless you want the sweater and the hat be a set, then, yes, I would get the yarn sooner so it’s not discontinued or sold out.❤️

Thank you for this clear video. I'm binding off my first project using this method now. It looks tidy, but the whole bind off row seems to be leaning to the right on mine, which makes it not quite align with the proper stitch below. I notice it a tiny bit on the white sleeve at the 00:15 point in the video, but don't see it on the dual colored example. The lean on mine seems more exaggerated. Is there something I can do to keep it from leaning to the right? Or is that what it's meant to do?
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 13 күн бұрын
The leaning is not ment to be. I think, it depends on the twist of the yarn. I had some yarns that gave me very straight columns, and some that were leaning. I find it also important, as I am binding off, to make sure that each stitch looks upright, so don’t tighten the working yarn too much. In case it is still leaning, you can work a couple of tubular rounds first and then proceed with the bind off. I have a 2x2 tubular bind off video on the channel, so you can check it out. I first switch 2x2 to 1x1 and then do tubular and bind off, so it’s at the end of the video. I hope this helps.
@ItsLeaNicole
@ItsLeaNicole 2 күн бұрын
Thanks very much. I think the problem was me tightening it too much. I tried again a bit looser and it didn't lean as much but also looked a bit sloppy. I'll try a third time and hopefully I tighten it correctly.
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 2 күн бұрын
I am glad you found the answer. If it still leans too much I would check this video at 3:23 min where I switched from 2x2 to 1x1 ribbing and start doing the tubular bind off. Adding the tubular part before binding off might help further. I can't believe this tutorial isn't viral! This is like Musselburgh hat status to me. Starts with a 4 stitch cast-on, doesn't require a gauge swatch at all, has NO purling, and is mostly formed with very easy and pretty regular increases. You could totally start this on straight needles but the magic loop was really great for this whole pattern. Irina, you were so generous with your patience and time at the beginning of the video, showing every step up close. Thank you!!!

Dear Irina I been looking to decrease sleeves stitches to give shape perfect your videos came while searching I am speechless to see your beautiful work.please help how to calculate stitches when starting top down any project.
@irinarevo
@irinarevo 23 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind comment! If you need help decreasing sleeves stitches, I can share the way I did this for my sweater. I would take the number of stitches at the underarm minus the final number of stitches at the end of the sleeve before ribbing. This will be the total stitches you need to decrease. Divide it by 2 - because you will decrease 2 stitches at a time. Then divide the number of rows between the underarm and the end of sleeve by this number - you’ll have decrease intervals. It’s up to your design preference where you place the decreases. For my sweaters lately I placed them one stitch away to the left and to the right from the centre of the sleeve, so I have two stitches between the two decreases. Il looks neat to me. But there are many other ways too. If you like, you can also make a slight curve at the beginning of the sleeve when you work from the underarm down: you can make the first 3-4 decreases at shorter intervals, for example after 2-4-6-8-8-8 rows, etc. I hope this helps :)

if my pattern has a 2x2 starting with P, can I do the same up until you 2x2 step and then instead of inverting the first 2 sts (to get a K to connect with the last K st) invert second and third to have P P? I assume then I'll invert the second last one to have K K at the end
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Ай бұрын
Yes, you can do it this way. Or you can do the way I did in the video and then move the marker of the beginning of the round by one stitch so it starts where you want it to. The joining in the round is absolutely jogless, so it would not matter.

hii! i have a worsted yarn and some people are saying that i need to use a larger needle size for a scarf, and in your tutorial, you used a smaller needle size, is there any difference? im a bit conflicted about it
@irinarevo
@irinarevo Ай бұрын
Hi! Worsted yarn is no problem, I believe my scarf was also made with worsted yarn. Generally for a neat looking ribbing (especially 1x1), I use a smaller needle size than for the stockinette (knit stitches). For other than ribbing stitch patterns (lace, for example) maybe a bigger needle size would be appropriate. But the neat 1x1 ribbing needs a tighter knitting. Otherwise the rib stitches will look loose and uneven (unless you do it on purpose as a design idea for a "rustic" look or "destruction" style with loose ends hanging, etc., which is in trend, but it has to be visibly intentional). Make a swatch with your yarn using 2-3 different needle sizes every 10 rows or so, you’ll see which size makes the neatest looking ribbing. Have fun with your project! :)
