Is that what I know as the ‘old Norwegian cast on’? Which type of cast off do you use? I know it’s important your cast on and bind off match well in a scarf like this so one side isn’t tighter from experience. Lovely scarf 🧣

I have just finished knitting my "Easiest Scarf In The World". I used a variety of colors of worsted weight yarn from my stash, including both bright and muted colors to avoid a crayon box look. The scarf is 8.5" wide and 84" long. That length is OK because I am 5'9" tall and can wrap it this way and that to a comfortable length. Next time I make this scarf in worsted weight yarn I will cast on 250 stitches instead of 300. That will result in a 72" scarf. For a 60" scarf, you'd cast on 200 stitches if using worsted weight yarn. I knitted this scarf flat, using two Size 9, 40" circular needles like a pair of straight needles. This scarf was way too bulky to knit flat using only one circular needle. A most enjoyable knitting project. Thank you for the inspiration, Arne and Carlos

I'm thinking of making a table runner in this manner with perhaps a cotton yarn or blend. Something washable on delicate cycle since I hope to have the 4 little grandchildren around the table again soon! I started the scarf using my scraps. It's like a walk down memory lane. It took the entire 300 plus stitches for me to figure out what I'd made with a certain beautiful purple yarn. I finally remembered that it was used for a spiral scarf, my first experience with short rows. I overestimated my long tail so I kept casting on beyond the 300. One of these rows, I'll actually count them! This is a fun project, especially one I can put down and pick up when I'm waiting for yarn to arrive for a project. Thanks Arne & Carlos!

this technique is amazing...i once crocheted an "Apache Trail of Tears" blanket with the technique of starting every row on the right of the rs and leaving enough yarn on both ends to tie together at the end of the project....also don't forget you want to leave each end at least 12 inches/30 cm so that you can have enough yarn to trim....do this for any knitted or crochet project that has fringe on the sides

Arne&Carlos, I hope you will check out the baby blanket I made using this fun idea. It’s posted in your quarantine knitting site. I tied 6 strands for each fringe and then made several rows of macrame. Also, I started each row with 2 stitches of k, then used a specific pattern using K2 P2 or P2 K2 depending on where I was and then ending each row with K2. You’ll figure it out. It is sized for a stroller, long enough to go under and over the baby. Also, it can be used as a privacy blanket when breastfeeding baby in public. For some odd reason many folks in the USA are still offended by feeding babies in public.

Update to previous post from yesterday: I am now using two 40" Size 9 circular needles from interchangeable sets to knit this scarf. Trying to work 300 stitches in worsted weight yarn on one 40" circular needle was getting way too crowded, especially with all the fringe accumulating. I'm using the 2 circular needles as I would a pair of straight needles. Just remember to screw an end cap (stopper) on the end of each circular needle cable instead of a needle tip so that your stitches won't fall off. All in all, much easier going. My scarf is turning out very nice. The right side has distinct stripes of garter stitch rows in different colors. The wrong side has the same garter stitch rows, but the colorway looks more like you're knitting with variegated yarn throughout instead of knitting individual stripes. I love the way both sides look.

@@ARNECARLOS Thank you, Arne and Carlos. This longways scarf has been so much fun to knit that I wanted everyone to be able to avoid the crowding I ran into at first.
