My lats on my left side is so sore to the touch and limited range of motion along with swollen traps and painful rhomboid. All after lifting my kids. I always thought my ribs were hurting but it’s been my lats all this time! Thank you so much!

You’re a miracle worker god bless you!! Since I was 20yo I couldn’t get under a squat rack (hated other variations of squats) did this stretch as much as it hurt (good pain) and instantly felt relief and could move my arms further back and was less tense felt a bit more lucid with my shoulders I’ll be back if I can get under the squat rack again in time!! This was great for the 1st time trying it!

Shoulder extension and adduction is easy to visualize for me but i have trouble visualizing shoulder depression fucntion of latissmus dorsi at the gh joint. It looks the same as scapular depression to me but that action is not happening at gh joint.

Also shouldn't external rotation stretch the lats and allow more length in them? I don't understand why internal rotation will give you more range of motion

Because most people are tight in their lats and external rotators. You are spot on

Legit question indeed, lats are internal rotators so if you internally rotate the hand then lats would be engaged, if you externally rotate then they are deactivated

It can play a role in improving mobility. Best thing is to use the muscle through a full range of motion assuming it is pain free
