This is soooo needed! When God saved me it’s exactly as you shared…my nature and desires really truly changed. After a year and a half of sexual purity I fell into sin and the grief I felt settled it for me like nothing else could , that someone holy was really living inside of me! Something I did like blinking in my unsaved life….when I went back to it, just broke my soul!! I KNEW what I had done to the heart of the One who had given His life for me. I NEVER wanted to dishonor Him like that ever again. I was able to live for close to 7 years after that in sexual purity until I got married. I had a holy desire that only God could give me, to honor Him with my body… my life!! When Christ comes to reside in us even if/when we blow it we can’t be okay with it.

I must share my testimony in this area. I was born and raised in the Catholic faith, constantly tormented of breaking any of God’s laws and going to hell. When I was 9, my mother sent me to an evangelical summer camp and I was told that I was going to hell bc I listened to rock and roll music. My mother is Deaf and my older brothers listened to all kinds of music loud! I panicked and had a nightmare that the flames were taller than me. When they had an altar call, I RAN to the altar and the person spoke in tongues over me, I copied it and walked away thinking “whew!! I almost went to hell!”. That was it! No discipleship, nothing of encouragement to a 9 yr old little girl. I wasn’t even given a Bible. I was sent back hime to my Catholic household with the condemning guidance. I’d always had a hyper sense of right and wrong to the point that I was conditioned into codependency rather easily in all the disfunction. When I left that disfunction to live with my dad, I jumped from the frying pan to the fire as my dad was deep into psychology. I began trying to please him and fix myself through psychology. It didn’t work, of course. I ended up an alcoholic. BUT GOD!!! He found me at 25 in an AA meeting and I nearly walked out looking at step 3, turning my will and life over to the care of God as I knew Him…ummm, no! “No one was ‘saving’ Mary Ann, speaking in tongues and rolling in the aisles”…(please understand how broken I was at that moment). I clearly heard “you’re on step 1”, which is “I am powerless over alcohol and my life is unmanageable”. I couldn’t argue with that! He sat me down and I’ve never looked back! I was saved at 9, but had behaved out of ignorance all those years until 25. At 21 yrs sober, I began to dive into His word like I sought alcohol and cigarettes and was born again. I experienced a deliverance like none other and I’m so grateful to be addicted to Him and nothing else!! Don’t quit before the miracle happens!! I will say that I do not subscribe to the current teaching of OSAS that says you can do whatever you want and still be saved. I always had a desire to please God, just had no idea or proper guidance. All glory to God, He was with me all along and never gave up on me. Get in that relationship and learn Who it is that saved you, really taste and see. You’ll never look back!

It was MYSTERY that had not been prophesied and was previously hid in God since the foundation of the world. What do you need to be saved TODAY? Remembering back throughout my life when I stopped pursuing a relationship with our Father and gave into the sins of the world, he NEVER left me! The only one that consistently uses repentance and he has a thorough salvation. Prayer is victory churches Paul Daughtery. That’s one out of the seven churches that I have visited several occasions and they refused to even discuss the matter with me on why they don’t use repentance, they don’t even, define what repentance means in the prayer to avoid using the word repentance so my question is are the people that have responded in their churches actually been saved because it really concerns me. I don’t understand why the prayer for salvation in these churches have gotten so short, so thank you for the lesson tonight, as always, it was very, very good

Is John a false teacher? The book of John uses the word believe over 100 times and not a single use of repentance. Could it be that the actual definition of repentance is a change of mind like the original Greek defines it? When someone realizes they're not good and already condemned before God and need a savior they have changed their mind. When they change their mind about who Jesus is and go from unbelief to belief they have repented. When someone believes in Jesus trusting him to get to Heaven, they have repented and they are saved. Churches today are turning repentance into something it's not. They believe it means to turn from sin which would mean keep the law and scripture makes it clear nobody will be justified by the works of the law. A great litmus test to see if people you care about are saved is just ask them why they are going to Heaven and whatever answer they give you is who they're trusting to get there. God bless.

John and Lisa, I appreciate you both. I like to keep things simple. For people who continue in a sin and you know it's wrong but you repeat it over and over. Are you saved? I cautiously say this; if you truly love Jesus and you love the sin you're doing. You know Jesus is grieved over what you are doing. Eventually love will win out. Either you will obey Jesus and forsake the sin or you will forsake Jesus and serve the sin instead of The One who gave His life for you. Remember, Love overcomes all things.....even the ugly sins we hurt each other with.

Dr. Michael Heiser gave a nice summary of the Gospel in which he stated that what God requires of true believers is loving loyalty to His Son Jesus Christ. If we are trusting Jesus for our righteousness and not our religious works, we will stay loyal to Him as the martyrs have all throughout history. Revelation 12:11 says we will overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and by not loving our lives more than Jesus.

So, this really hits home for me because when I prayed the “sinner’s prayer,” it was to a radio sermon in my dad’s car when I was 17. At the time, I was a witch, by definition, and I had no repentance in my heart. HOWEVER, later on, I began to feel compelled to throw all my witchcraft away for good. I sort of lost interest in it. And I believe the Lord used that prayer to invite Himself into my heart with my permission and He decluttered my soul of the witchcraft from before, which admittedly took a while. But I wonder if I had realized the significance of my sin beforehand, if maybe then I would’ve ended my relationship with the demonic quicker and cleaner. Because there was understandably a LOT to unpack later on in my faith. But perhaps He does things like that so I don’t die of exhaustion lol. But I love that story of LEARNING the importance of repentance. Thank you, John and Lisa, for making another killer podcast episode!

The problem with thinking Am I saved, is the focus is still on ME. Saved is another way of saying, do I have a relationship with Jesus. I understand sin separates me from Jesus. It more then wreaks my relationship, It separates us from relationship. Thus asking for forgiveness, the removal of our sin starts the relationship, and continuely asking for forgiveness keeps the relationship strong. Knowing your saved is just making Jesus and your relationship with him as your number one priority.

At the end of the day the question is did we ever truly gave our life to Christ . There is difference between making a mistake because we are in the process of sanctification and learning along the way a new way of living but if we are continually living in sin deliberately, there is no way the spirit of God could be directing our path. Thank you for the clarification 🙏🌺

When you get saved, you will indeed know that you are saved because the old has passed and something new has begun. Looking back and remembering how your life was before will feel like there is noooooo way I lived my life like that! And only that is a sign that the Holy Spirit is alive inside of you. And another sign of knowing you are saved - when life gets tough and you feel like giving up - you just can’t give up because “to whom shall I go?” Jesus is Lord! There is no other! So in other words, when you get saved you WILL know because it is an experience and a supernatural change that has occurred. And nothing can take that away from you ❤

I hope John and Lisa see this: I was reading the Bible with my 12 year old last night. We were on Matthew 5:22-23. My son was filled with so much fear, he was crying afraid of going to hell because he’s been mad at people, hated people, and said a curse word (I use NLT). How do I expose him to the true gospel- how we are all sinners who need repentance, without putting this level of extreme fear in him? Does it go hand in hand? I’ve also personally dealt with this before, of being so afraid of what I read in the Bible that I had to step away for my own sanity and mental health. It caused such anxiety and fear in me. I don’t want the same thing to happen to him. I feel totally unprepared and unqualified on how to disciple my son. I don’t want to sugar coat the gospel, but I also don’t want to damage his mental health the way it happened to me.

Fear of hell is what brought me to my parents as a seven year old boy asking how to be saved. Thank God they called a pastor to our house. He helped me to pray and call on Jesus for mercy and salvation. Your son needs to hear that Jesus took his guilt, shame, and punishment on the cross so that he can be forgiven and set free from fear. Jesus rose from death to offer us eternal life. We just need to believe that He is alive and will save anyone who asks Him to save them from Sin.

the cost! of having Jesus as our Lord and saviour over the cost of not following Him
@alexarc38152 ай бұрын
I have had my doubts of my salvation creep in at times. But I have come to peace with God's promises. 'he is faithful to forgive!' The unexplainable peace, the joy, totally Him! I was made new! And I now HATE my sin. I hate the things in this world that are evil. Where as before I justified my sin, didnt believe I was a sinner and was blind and deaf to the wickedness of our world other than 'big deal sins' like murder. I believed I was a good person. Now I know, that without Jesus, my good is dirty rags befire a holy perfect God. But how loved I feel in that realization that he saw my filth and picked me up and gave me his robes of righteousness!

I believe my true conversion came when I received the revelation of Jesus Christ. Just as Peter received the revelation of who Jesus was in Matthew 16:16, it was God in Heaven who revealed Jesus to me. The revelation of Jesus came when I truly humbled myself and asked God to help me understand the Parable of the Master hiring the workers for his vineyard and hired them at different times throughout the day. After reading that parable, I felt anger like the men in the story who asked why those who got hired on later in the day got paid as much as those who started early. But this time, rather than believing that I was right and the Bible was wrong, I asked God to give me understanding. I also asked God why He was the only way when so many other religions seemed peaceful and good. Then, the Lord asked me a question that forever changed my life. He asked me to give Him a greater expression of love than grace. As I thought, I realized that there was no higher expression of love than grace and that Jesus was the Spirit of grace in the flesh and that Grace was the ultimate power and ruler in all the universe making Him the King of kings and the Lord of lord's, making the word of God THE word of God and all authoritative because Jesus was the word made flesh! In a world that teaches a "you get what you deserve" kind of mentality, grace is truly a revelation! That's the way I understand being born again is to receive the revelation and spirit of grace and to walk in it.

Yes, i agree as well. It's about a revelation of Jesus Christ, and our true identity/sonship in Him. (And for me personally, I believe its less about Heaven and Hell. To me that message is flawed anyhow, as i'm not even sure I agree with the whole ETERNAL conscious TORMENT doctrine)

Part of the problem is a lot of this is philosophical. We can desire to give our lives up for him, and not completely do it. I did, and when push came to shove I found out I couldn't. That's when he placed me squarely in a wilderness. Now I realize it must be ALL for him. Was I saved before? You bet. I had a deep hunger for God, in spite of my stupidity.
@freeborn73 ай бұрын
Fruit starts in the heart, not in the outward behaviour. The outward behaviour follows closely on the heals of our heart changing. Some of the key ways that we know we're saved is contained in the scripture "Romans 8:16 (ESV) 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,". We know, because our heart is towards him, continually desiring him. Like how do you know you love someone? Because your thoughts are continual towards pleasing them, and doing what's best for them. It's the same with being saved. But, we also desire what he desires. We desire to be holy, we hate sin, we hate all that he hates.
@freeborn73 ай бұрын
You know, I don't think it was him that put me in the wilderness actually. I think it was my own bad choices. He was ready to have me walking in lock step with him, literally doing NOTHING without him. And when I refused to do as he asked, I became confused. I should have kept seeking, and repenting of my lack of obedience, but instead I just wandered in a wilderness of my own making. But, He used it for his purposes. As it is written, all things work together for good, to those that are called according to his purposes. Our lousy decisions can be a massive benefit to us if we are his. We are not bastards, without a loving father who disciplines us.

I watched this video from front to back. Not once was the gospel discussed. Not once was the truth of Jesus promise discussed. The ONLY way to truly know if you are saved is to ask yourself if you BELIEVE in your heart that Jesus died for all your sins, past, present and future and do you trust that truth and in his free gift of everlasting life. We know we are saved because JESUS PROMISED and he keeps his promise. He who drinks or receives the message of salvation will NEVER THIRST.

Yes, a person can fall away, God never changes but we potentially can, He keeps us but Scripture is clear that we can deny Him (thus He denies us). The lukewarm will be vomited out. Now concerning the assurance of salvation, this may sound bad but think about it. IT IS NOT AS MUCH WHAT YOUR DOING BUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. Each of us has been immersed into whatever cultural or societal norms we accept. God’s Word describes a state for the New Testament saint that transcends dos and don’ts like in the Old Testament. In Hebrews 8 we see that the New Covenant is better (for many reasons) but primarily God comes to live in the believer and to WRITE His Laws into our hearts. If we walk with a good conscience before Him, He will direct us. If we look through the Bible to find dos and donts we will find them but it isn’t the way of the New Covenant. The motive of our hearts tells practically everything we need to know to be on the narrow road. Jesus is working in us to not only do His Will but to WANT to. This is the question “do you want to please Him to show that you love Him?” If your answer is YES!!, then He will NEVER cast you out. If your answer is “I don’t know?” Then you are still outside of Him or in gestation. Come Lord Jesus!

We can not be looking to ourselves for salvation but remember youve already been sanctified when you truly believe Jesus died and paid the price. Read Hebrews 10:14 KJV, all other versions reflect work based salvation. Jesus already saved us once you really believe that it will give you peace. You dont have to keep apologizing for your sins but say thank you for what he did. Its not a license to do whatever you want you will be changed when you really believe this but its impossible to rely on ourselves

I keep hearing you say I believe I believe I believe but you don't give your scriptural reasoning for why I believe. It's almost your opinion rather than what God says. If you were changed completely like Jesus, when the Lord came into my life, something changed but after almost 50 years of following Jesus, He gets taller and I get smaller. I'm trusting in Jesus and what He did on my behalf because my very best falls far short of God's glory and goodness. I'm trusting Jesus because I don't trust myself and I don't trust you. If Jesus doesn't hang onto me, I don't have a hope or a prayer. Jesus saved me out of pity, but He created me for good works. I find fulfillment in doing these works, but the works that save me are Jesus works on behalf of me. Jesus came to call sinners. I have the qualifications for His calling, but I won't be like Him until I see Him as He is. I've got a ways to go.

I believe we have to be careful because only God knows who is saved or not. As humans, we cannot know people's hearts. One thing I do know that sometimes I think people forget is that Jesus has already paid the price but sometimes believers act as though they have nothing to do with how they live. Even Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. Jesus said in Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. I think many many believers forget even the angels had free will when they chose to go with Lucifer and God has and will not take away free will from human beings. We need to be careful it's like we should not walk in the spirit of fear but we also know the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3PTiWCMlNZ-iqs

Absolute heresy in this video. Everything mentioned in this video points to ourselves, rather than Jesus, as proof that we’re saved. This video points to all of these things to maintain our justification and to prove that our justification is real. 6:16 - you said, "so now, what happens is, I have not developed a real relationship with Him. So now that fake Jesus doesn't change my nature. I'm still eaten up with sin." This is gross heresy. Our new, born-again, nature comes by trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. Our new nature doesn't come from our ability to turn from sin once we've trusted in Him. Faith is confidence/assurance (hupostasis). See Hebrews 11:1. It comes down to whether or not a person puts their faith (confidence/assurance) in Jesus alone for salvation. Saving faith is wholly trusting in Jesus Christ and His already-finished work as complete payment for your sins. That faith is saving faith because it is the object of our faith that saves, and the object of our faith is Jesus alone. The heretical Lordship view of salvation is that your life has to prove that your faith was real faith, demonstrated by your actions/desire/service/work/submission/obedience to Jesus, in order to be saving faith. This video mixes up sonship and discipleship. You can’t say that we’re saved by grace if you have to prove that your faith was saving faith only demonstrated by submission/obedience to Jesus. If an element of faith is submission/obedience, then how can a person’s faith be measured? Think seriously about this. How can a person know that they are saved if an element of submission/obedience is required to prove it? Three words. By their works. That’s gross heresy against Jesus and the salvation that only He can provide. To the Lordship salvation/Calvinist camp: where is the exact line/moment where you can definitely answer: one less issue of sin, you know you’re saved; one more issue of sin, you know you're not? You can’t answer it because you don’t know. The line would be subjective from believer to believer. You trust that your constant desire to turn from sin proves that you’re saved. You’re in the most dangerous spot if you’re trusting in your actions/desire/service/work/submission/obedience to KEEP you justified before God. It’s not Jesus’ righteousness to save you and then your righteousness to keep you saved/prove you are saved. People who believe this are the same people Jesus is referring to in Matthew 7:21-23. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” What is the will of the Father in heaven? Look at what Jesus said in John 6:40. John 6:40 - "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." Jesus said that the will of God is that whomever BELIEVES on Jesus will have eternal life. The word believe in the Greek is pisteuō. It's the verb form of the word faith (the noun is pistis in the Greek). Pisteuō is to entrust, cling to and to rely on. Pistis is to have confidence in, and assurance of. The will of God is to trust in, cling to, have confidence in and be assured of, Christ Jesus alone for salvation. You will think that you’re saved because you’re constantly trying to turn from sin and you’re following what Jesus said it means to be a disciple, yet you never trusted in Jesus alone for your salvation. What you think is obedience is actually disobedience because you reject Jesus as the Savior by trusting in your own works/actions/deeds to prove that you were saved in the first place. This whole “your conversion could be false” doctrine refutes what Jesus said we must do to be saved. I’m not talking about what it takes to be a disciple. I’m talking about what it takes to be saved. Conversion occurs at the exact moment that a person repents (changing my mind from unbelief to belief that Jesus and His finished work is completely satisfactory to pay for my sins: past, present and future). Jesus paid for ALL of my sins, not just the sins before I became saved and then not the ones that I commit after being saved in the chance that I'm not obedient enough. God’s judgment is objective. The objective standard, by which God judges, is complete and holy perfection. If our obedience/work/service proved that we’re saved then God would have to judge subjectively. He would then be a respecter of persons but His Word says that He’s not (Romans 2:11). If God judged subjectively then He would show partiality based on each person’s performance. God has to judge objectively when it comes to our justification. If we've trusted solely on Jesus alone for that justification then we are righteous before the Holy God. God's objective judgment requirement is met because we are in Christ Jesus and we have His righteousness credited to our account. If we have to prove that we're saved, through actions/desire/service/work/submission/obedience, then God's objective judgment isn't satisfied and He has to send you to hell because you stand before God with your sin/flesh nature and your works rather than with the righteousness of Jesus. Once we’re born again (solely by believing on Jesus alone for salvation), we have His righteousness. Our born-again spirit is the new man, in that we have the new man that’s born of God. It is impossible for the new man to sin because our new man is born of God. Until the day of redemption, we all still have our old man (flesh). Our old man flesh will always be at war with our born-again new man. This daily battle won’t yield perfection. God’s standard is absolute perfection. If “trying” not to sin is required after salvation then God’s judgment becomes subjective, because each believer is going to have varying levels of sin that they commit. God’s judgment isn’t subjective, though. It’s completely objective. God’s judgment can be avoided by one thing and one thing only: the perfectly-atoning, paid-in-full, payment from the finished work of Jesus Christ through His perfect life, death, burial and resurrection. Once a person places their faith (assurance/confidence) in Jesus and His finished work, they’re saved. That’s it. His finished work pays the death debt that my sin owed to God. If my salvation is attained, or maintained, by anything that I do, I’m in big trouble because it means that I haven’t wholly trusted on Jesus alone for that salvation. Thank God that my salvation has nothing to do with how much I perform for, work to, submit to, serve or desire the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank God that my salvation comes from trusting in Jesus alone for my justification before Him.

Why did he just read the verse and skip over the meaning of it when he read, “repentance from dead works”?? What are “dead works”? He just talked past it like it’s just accepted that those are our “sins”. But is that really what it means? Clearly in his mind it is but not in mine. I think this is his own “private interpretation”.

Not one mention of baptism? How do we access the blood of Christ? I have not found one example of a sinner’s prayer. I have found in Acts 2:38 repent and be baptized for the remission of your sins. 1 Peter 3:21 states that baptism saves us. These are just a couple examples there are many more. I just want to make this clear and to the point. I’ll finish with Christ saying in Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Jesus himself got baptized, to fulfill all righteousness. Baptism is essential, that’s where we are washed clean in the blood of Christ, then we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
