Had to come back and say thanks! It took me a second try I didn't have enough angle on the first spoke on the second side of the rim (needed to go one more hole along the hub) but realized what I did, great instruction and demonstration.

I’m lacing an entirely new rim and hub. How would I know what length of spoke I should use?

Great question. Obviously if it is the same size hub and rim measure and order the same size spokes, if not maybe the hub manufacturer will have some information for you. I would start with the hub maker and see if there is a chart for different size rims.
