How To Lace And True A Motorcycle Rim: Part 1

Motorcycle wheel lacing and truing is typically a job you would leave for the pros. The technique can sometimes take a lot of practice. I wanted to start you off on the right foot if lacing and truing your old crusty rim is a repair you may have in your future. In this video we will be going over a 36 spoke, equal flange hub from an old Honda CT90.

I've been trying to find a tutorial that explains how to do this from beginning to end. I couldn't get my rim laced until I watched your video. 2 years onward and the problem with finding a "pro" is more difficult now than ever. I have vintage bikes and it is nearly impossible to find someone who knows what they're doing. 171 is if memory serves me well enough the model code for a C50L a restricted version of the C50 from the late 70s. That may explain why you could not trace it, also back then spokes would only have been available as separate parts not a set so this part number would have been one used originally later than that.

I have a Suzuki DR200se, wheels were bent, got some new spokes. I tried for many times following these instructions. I couldn't get it right, the part for the outer spokes don't work for my make and model. I figured out on my out on my own. I had to lace the outer spokes left and right, left and right left and right until you get it all around. BTW great video, I learned alot.

I bought a spoke torque wrench thinking all of the spokes at the same tension would true a whee,l how wrong I was. It got worse making all the spokes the same tension. Through much practice I became a pro at it now LOL.

10x160 spokes will be too small for this rim? Currently rebuilding a C50 (the same as a passport in the US) and trying to find the dimensions to use 3rd party ones

nice video man, but can you help? I have a 1964 Honda C200 project and im lacing the 17" rims. All new rims and spokes. Ive followed yours and others instructions, laced in the correct holes with the correct spokes and achieved the correct pattern.... BUT....i have had at least 4 attempts on each rim and every time i get some spokes extending out too far to the outside of the rim, like if the nuts are screwed into the rim to take up the slack, there's a heap of thread sticking out the back of the nut and it always seems to be the outer spokes doing it. Im going crazy with frustration and cant see any obvious mistake. Do i just snip that extra thread flush with the top of the nut after trueing, or what??

Hey there I got a question my motorcycle won't run if the choke is on at all. I know usually the opposite the motorcycle won't run unless choke is on but I cleaned the the carburetors on my 750 nighthawk it runs fine but if I turn the choke on even a little bit it dies. Does that just mean that I cleaned them properly?
