I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Cassandra. She was a student in our school district's Gifted and Talented program, and I was her guide on the side, aka teacher. The culminating fifth grade project was to create a world comprised of entirely of polygonal structures that would be student-designed and engineered.. Each student worked in a company with a budget constraint of $100,00K. Cassandra constructed THE MIRACLE MILE, a collection of high end stores carrying haute couture, under budget! Later in my career, I worked in the school where her mother cared for us all as the school nurse, and we would chat often about our love and admiration for Cassandra as we watched her rise. Cassandra, her mom, and I all shared an affinity for Chanel bags. I'll just end by saying, both Cassandra and her mom are the nicest people, warm and sincere. Loved listening to this show!

I absolutely LOVED this episode. "At the root of everything is, I just have the best intentions and I'm genuinely just trying to make an amazing product for the people that are trusting me to spend the money on our stuff...." Now here's a fresh perspective; I'm not a founder, or an entrepreneur in the traditional sense. But I AM in sales, for a genuinely amazing portfolio of botanical extracts, and there are loads of parallels between entrepreneurship and building your book of business as a sales manager. I am the only woman on the sales team, and a senior sales manager at 31 - there's a LOT of pressure to perform. But I'm passionate about our ingredients and truly believe in the benefits they offer in supplements, so success is a happy byproduct of doing what I love most :) In a sense, I'm also just trying to [sell] an amazing product for the people that are trusting [brands] for supplements to build their health!

This is great to listen to. I feel like that belief in yourself, feeling like your job was too small for you, but having the self assuredness that you can do more is essential for entrepreneurial success. Some people are lucky and raised to believe it. But, even if you weren’t lucky, I firmly believe even those of us reprogramming ourselves to believe it too can also make it! For anyone who is reading this and has that spark in their heart, I wish you all the success in your business endeavors!

One thing I've started to realise more and more the reality is that many people who start businesses often have a family background that provides them with a safety net. Knowing they have support to fall back on if things go wrong makes it significantly easier to take risks and get started.

If you grow up in NYC with a bit of wealth and have the opportunity to take summer classes at FIT and fit the “girl in fashion” physical description, maybe this could be you one day!! It is great that she works hard, but she is always going to have an advantage. Access, proximity and resources MATTER. This should have been talked about repeatedly.
@JenniferEdwardsOfficialАй бұрын
What about the people who make it that don’t have these advantages? And what about the people who have these advantages & do nothing with them?
@marielisabeth634Ай бұрын
I know so many people with these advantages that didn't make it tho
@JG93_25 күн бұрын
What an odd thing to say. People that have these "advantages" don't go around thinking that about themselves every day - that's why they don't have a need to reiterate it like you mentioned. People like you should stop judging others and victimising themselves. There are plenty of women in business who made it without access, proximity and resources - and those who by chance or birth had it don't owe you any repeated mention of it.

Dear Grace, I think you're doing such an amazing job. I am just wondering, why you keep using that Valley Girl kind of speaking, which makes it so hard to listen to... I would think, your natural voice must feel beautiful, if you could tap into the authenticity, that it comes with - that would be so amazing ♥

Love learning from women in business (especially when the business podcast sector is so bleak), but wow we really have a way to go in terms of diversity don't we? It seems the majority of people in business are men, and then the teeny tiny percentage of women (or at least the ones we get on podcasts) are beautiful, often blonde women. It's wildly disproportionate and really shows what a long way we have to go. (Not that this is any fault of either of the women in the podcast - nor should they feel negatively about being beautiful blonde business women - they're incredibly smart, hard working trailblazers and I love to see it). But it does beg the question of how much 'looks matter' in the world of business (for women), more so than they seem to for men.
