Thanks This is so helpful ,been around this work my whole life . However being an electrician never paid much attention,to busy doing my work . Now my daughter is in desperate need of some patio stone needing something besides gritty stone . Wish I had paid more attention when I was younger . Almost 70 and never attempted a finished outdoor patio stone refinishing . With this video I am fairly confident that I can pull this off . Thanks so much Very Helpful

Doesn't that much water weaken the grout? Does it have a polymer in it to strengthen it and help avoid the problem with it being too wet?
@Donna-vh5ym3 жыл бұрын
@big carp catcher // what kind of grout would you use if you lived in Texas?
@cornflakeusa3 жыл бұрын
@@Donna-vh5ym I would use all purpose sand from Home Depot and portland cement. Measure it out 3 sand to 1 portland cement. I'd mix it a little thicker than they did and use a grout bag to fill the joints. You will still need to sponge the joints smooth. With the grout made thicker, the joints will shrink less and stay fuller as you sponge the surface.

Can someone explain what is he using for grouting? That is not regular cement, or is it?
@Subydude-rp9yv3 жыл бұрын
It's grout. So it's not sticky like morter is. It sticks well to itself and drys solid. However would not work if you tried to use it to bond the stones down to the substrate. So it's easier to clean off of stone and tile. Hope I explained that clearly. Cheers!

Is the permeable concrete dry or wet when you lay it out and level it? Are you laying it out as you go? How thick is it? It looks like you lay it out wet, level it as you go, and then it somewhat dries before you lay the flagstones on top of it?

Carl, Nice job with the walkway, I am putting in a flagstone walkway in my front yard and used quickcrete mortar mix and added pea gravel to contrast with the darker stones. I let it dry for about 2 days and was out washing it off with a hose and the mortar was flaking off. I am not sure if the pea gravel had anything to do with it, if it was just an old bag or my water mix was too diluted. The mix will just crumb in her hands like dried up dirt. When I layed it down it was still pretty thick like pancake mix. I noticed you used a grout for your project, is that usually the best to use for a slab walkway?
@bryantaber60784 жыл бұрын
They are using a product that is basically all portland cement and water. " Mortar" mix is sand, Portland and Lime. Mortar is never used to joint stones, only brick and block. Lime weakens the strength of Portland plus the amount of water you used to get it to a pouring consistency severely weakened and ruined your mix.
