Now my daughter is in desperate need of some patio stone needing something besides gritty stone . Wish I had paid more attention when I was younger . Almost 70 and never attempted a finished outdoor patio stone refinishing . With this video I am fairly confident that I can pull this off . Thanks so much Very Helpful

I'm a stone mason bricklayer from Australia. Was hoping I found a quicker way to grout. But no, goes back to what we do, but we hand grout on knees following by same roller bucket. We must all hate grouting from around the world haha. But we do use some cleaning vinegar in our cleaning bucket, it helps with smears.

@cornflakeusa3 жыл бұрын
I'm not trying to dog the installers but I agree with Pony. I don't know what mix is used in this video but usually when cement is mixed this wet, it doesn't get as hard as a dryer mix and it may crack as it dries. Also, if the soil settles and the stones move, the joints will eventually crack. I like installing something like this over a concrete slab. Nice looking job though.

Pont by hand all way best way 👍 even on to own way of doing it but laying of the sandstone look really good and the wall you built 👍

@asmirann36363 жыл бұрын
Must be shitting Bricks !!! The other way is to pour the mix only in the crevices. And then wipe the excess that is spilling out with a sponge.
@sixhundred3score63 жыл бұрын
@@asmirann3636 Lol! I love a good Mason's pun! So it can also be done quite similary to tile, only you want the mortar to be "pourable" versus using a float to push it in?
@asmirann36363 жыл бұрын
@@sixhundred3score6 Glad you liked it. You can do it similar to a tile but it will take a lot more mortar than is required. The key is to first have a stable and strong foundation with layers of gravel and then sand(or stone dust) so that the foundation doesn't cave in. Then start placing the stone slabs one by one on the foundation and gently hammer each one till all of these are levelled. While the gravel provides stability, the layer of sand or stone dust makes it easy to level the stone slabs (& also fills any voids that may exist in the under surface of the stone). After this the 'pourable' mortar is poured into the crevices. The slurry will make its way beneath the stone slabs on its own. Some of it may even seep into the foundation. And this is more than enough.

I got a question about my atmosphere in my country and how to make it possible to do it myself, I live in Iceland and it's cold 🥶 in vintner times, and I want to make sure that it will never move in the frost . Maybe I should have concrete underneath and thicker layers of cement with layers of iron to strange it to be solid 🤔?

Why bed slabs on porous concrete if you are then grouting the joints, surely rainwater won't be able to drain into the porous concrete?

What product did you use for the grout? I'm going to be making a mosaic porch and need a great weather product to use for my larger joints between my tile pieces. I live in South Texas. I'll be laying the tiles on wet cement but I wont' be able to get the sides of the tiles nicely laid in the cement so I need a good grout to help fill in the spaces. @big carp catcher // what kind of grout would you use if you lived in Texas?
@cornflakeusa3 жыл бұрын
@@Donna-vh5ym I would use all purpose sand from Home Depot and portland cement. Measure it out 3 sand to 1 portland cement. I'd mix it a little thicker than they did and use a grout bag to fill the joints. You will still need to sponge the joints smooth. With the grout made thicker, the joints will shrink less and stay fuller as you sponge the surface.
