I just want to mention that when I said "oil-based" serums - some of these are not true oils and may contain carriers such as propylene glycol and propanediol. They are thicker and are water-free but are still not oils. They should still be applied in the order described in the video, just wanted to clarify for anyone wondering :)
@elizabethelliott31754 жыл бұрын
I was just about to ask about that!:) Does the propanediol make those serums have an "oily" feel? I use the Resveratrol + Ferulic Acid, and it feels like a heavier oil than a dry oil like Rosehip Seed.

So basically: 1. Cleansing 2. Toner 3. Water based serum (on wet skin if hyaluronic) 4. Other serums 5. Acid product 6. Niacinamide 7. Oil based serum 8. Oil 9. Silicon based vitamins 10. Moisturize (damp skin if cream is with hyaluronic) 11. Eye products / small areas products 12. Sunscreen (if not contained in the moisturized) 13. Primer (after previous products are set) Then make up. Is everything’s correct? I always put oils in the beginning, because I had the feeling they mix with other products better, I’ll try this way. Such a great informative video!! Quick question: with the exception of an essence+vitamin c combo and moisturizer+sunscreen, how long would you recommend we wait between each product application? Sorry if that seems self explanatory, lol. Just curious! Great vid, Kenna!!! 💖
@KennaWhitnell4 жыл бұрын
You don't really need to wait too long! By the time you've grabbed the next product it has probably been enough time. Nothing needs to set in between, except for between skincare | sunscreen | makeup. The "|" indicates points that need to be set before next product application.

How do you tell if a product is water-based, oil-based or silicone? Do the water-based products just have water as the first item on the ingredient list? Pretty much all of the products I use have some sort of oil (Meadow foam seed oil, hydrogenated castor oil etc.) on the ingredient list, some despite also containing water. Also how can you tell if something on the ingredient list is an essential oil? Again, I’m doing an audit of my products and I see a lot of oils (among other chemical compounds) I have never heard of, as well as more “household” sounding extracts (ginger extract, Japanese gold thread extract, green tea leaf extract etc.) Are extracts and oils the same as essential oils? Sorry if these are stupid questions. I’m super new to all of this (as you can probably tell). And thanks so much for your videos! You’re the first person I’ve ever heard talked about skincare in such a factual, science-backed way. A lot of it just went over my head, but the most basic stuff that I could catch made perfect sense. Totally blew my mind and changed the way I approach skincare, so thanks so much again!

And if i'm using an AHA toner and a hyaluronic acid serum, which one goes first? I mean, you've said that the HA serum (water-based serums) goes first and then the acids, but if the acid comes in a toner form, I guess I have to use it in the "toner step", right? And if my assumption is correct, do I have apply the HA serum while my AHA toner is still wet?

If my acid is in a water based toner form I should use it at the toners step right? Can you explain why acids are after water based serums? Does it just depend on the texture (layering from thin to thick textures?) Thanks Kenna!

@Brainjoy014 жыл бұрын
Depends what type of Trentinoin. If its a cream, it goes after oil serums, but under thick face creams. And give it time to sink in, moisturizing too soon cancels the effects out. And if its an oil based retinol then it goes on earlier with the other oil based serums but careful mixing with other acids. Mix with other BHA's to help carry the retinols into the skin.

Hi Kenna! Can I use my The Ordinary Resveratrol + Ferulic Acid after a moisturizer? I don't use water-based serums and I like applying moisturizer on damp skin. I don't like applying the Resveratrol + Ferulic Acid on wet skin because I don't know whether it's a good idea to put antioxidants that are generally unstable in water on a wet face. My current routine is: 1. CeraVe Foaming Cleanser 2. Mixa ProTolerance Soothing Moisturizer 3. The Ordinary Resveratrol + Ferulic Acid 4. La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm (very heavy moisturizer I put before my sunscreen to protect my super dry skin from the alcohol in the otherwise fantastic sunscreen) 5. La Roche Posay ShakaFluid SPF 50+
@KennaWhitnell4 жыл бұрын
I would put your ordinary resveratrol + ferulic acid under your moisturizer! They are only unstable after sitting for weeks/ months in water - they will be stable on your skin for the time they are there! Also due to the formula of the resveratrol + ferulic acid product, they are in propanediol, which is a good ingredient for your moisturizer to be applied on top of as well.

Recently I started using the ordinarys HA serum, but had to stop using it because when I applied squalane it made everything pill up and crumble off. Do you think this was because my skin wasn’t damp enough when I applied it? Or maybe because I was applying squalane after moisturizer? I figured it was some weird oil/water reaction, but I’m not sure what the exact issue is 😕

What do you think of brands like Drunk Elephant that recommend mixing products together? They say you can mix creams, oils, water based serums all together and apply at once. Personally I mix a few drops of my oil with my hydrating serum before moisturizer and that works well for me. But I'm going to try your order and see if it works better! Also when my skin is super dry using oil as a last step really locks everything in, skin feels almost greasy but it's kind of nice when skin is super dry (I'd only do this at night)

Could I like pay you to tell me what I should get and what I should do for my skin? Like a personal consultation. Maybe you could let us pay for a 30 min consult!! This is all so foreign to me and my skin be looking rough.
