How to Lean and Turn your Harley

This video discusses common questions and answers to learning slow speed motorcycle skills. Learning how to lean a Harley Davidson motorcycle is scary for many riders. Learning how make turn your motorcycle handle bars to full lock is extremely challenging for most riders of Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. This video demonstrates a ten foot cone weave. The cone weave is also used with emergency threshold braking from thirty mph. Many riders think ABS brakes are the best way to stop in an emergency but actually emergency threshold braking is always more efficient. ABS brakes are a back up to proper threshold braking. Learning total clutch control with the motorcycle is very important as well. Raising or Preloading your motorcycle throttle with high rpms is not necessary and can burn your clutch and wear your brakes and rotors when using the rear brakes as a crutch to make slow speed u turns on a Harley Davidson or any motorcycle.

Here it is February 2nd and though it may be too cold sometimes to ride. These slow speed maneuvers can be done all winter. Not much wind chill at 7 mph! 👍✌️

There are alot of good reasons to visit Texas, taking your course is one of them. This technique is apparently so much easier on the clutch and brakes. Glad I found this channel because I do practice and the heat that comes off my bike ('07 Road King) is worrisome. The throttle hand on the windshield is what caught my eye. TCC!

Hey Jay, first of all, Thank You for your service! I found and subscribed to this channel about a month ago & have watched nearly all of the videos posted. I’m not a new rider, but definitely need to put these techniques into use more. I love the motorcycle crash guards!! And ordering a set this weekend for my 2023 Road Glide. Thank you for taking the time to respond to questions. Some folks don’t have the time to read through all the comments & I happen to be one of them. I’ve also recently found Jerry & Robert on the tubes and although they have slightly different approach to slow speed skills you all agree the use of clutch and turning the bars. Keep the content coming please!

One thing that helped me have better clutch control was getting rid of the stock self adjuster on the clutch cable. Much more of a positive feel throughout clutch lever travel, and more predictable clutch engagement zone in the clutch lever.

Clutch on any MC is the same exact one with a manual car. Very simple. If you don't know how to drive a manual car or have done it before, the question about clutching on MC may be making sense. Other than that, it is like a manual car.

Jay, I did not know you had a channel and when I had the wonderful opportunity to meet you in lasts year nova rodeo in Alexandria, you didn’t mention it. Glad I came across it. And you are correct, the challenge I have with locking and leaning is dropping my ride and also getting injured. I am improving but have a ways to go. Thank you for the video; I will start checking out the others as well. Be and ride safe.

Love your videos. Just wondering, what is your opinion on speed for these maneuvers. I've heard others stress that you have to keep your speed up. Anything less than I think it's 5 mph they say you have more force pulling the bike to the ground than forward momentum keeping it up. They claim you want to be between 6 and 10 mph, but I seem to struggle a little with that. I tend to try and peak at my speedometer instead of looking where I want to go.

Neither does my M8 114. Mine idles around 900. Trying to do the TCC method without using any throttle did NOT work for me. I had to bring the RPMs up to about 1200-1500. I tried it with TCC and the bike at idle engine speed and it tried to die on me any time I engaged the clutch even slightly at lean and made it unstable/jerky. Bringing the throttle up a touch worked much better for me.

My 2001 flhtc does the same. Full open clutch and low idle= jerky and un smooth. Also carburetor not fuel injected.
