What is a phrasal verb?
The first problem is that there is no consensus over what exactly a phrasal verb is. Believe it or not. Some linguists make a definition between verb+preposition and between “true” phrasal verbs which are verbs with “particles”. It’s NOT IMPORTANT to know if if it an adverb, a preposition etc. I don’t want to enter this argument and I don’t have any opinion on the matter, but I am going to create a clear definition of phrasal verbs for this class:
A verb which contains more than 1 word
Can be replaced with a single verb (has one meaning)
The problem with phrasal verbs is that it is impossible to deduct their meaning by looking at their constituent parts. This makes them one of the most daunting parts of English for new learners. Today I am going to try to make phrasal verbs easy for you.

@@Canguroenglish Good afternoom, sir. Why "between linguist" instead among ? Thank you.

As far as I know, you use BETWEEN when you are referring or comparing two things. Of the other side, the use AMONG is when you are referring or comparing three things or more. If you want to be sure, you can double check with English Grammar Rules.

Thank you so much. It's good to know that there's some kind of order to the nonsensical phrasal verbs. For spanish speakers, phrasal verbs are difficult to grasp. I've tried so hard, and the only phrasal-verb-like expression I could find was "venir abajo" as in "el edificio de vino abajo (se derrumbó)" I remember one of the first times i heard some phrasal verbs was the verb "print out". I had to hand in a paper but had it in a flashdrive. My teacher told me that I had to print it out. I immediately walked out of the classroom trying to find some printers right outside. I found none. By the way, is there any rule of thumb that gives you a broad idea of what the prepositions could mean? Some kind of educated guess? For example, I've heard people using UP as in getting or acquiring something: suit up or partner up. However, I don't know if we could generalize for most prepositions.
