New archers are sometimes confused when it comes to how to let go of the bow string properly. I show you how to get your fingers off the string just like the world's best archers do and include a few drills you can do at home to better understand the right way to release the bowstring.

The hanging straight hand and finger snapping method is profoundly simple and so effectively simple to understand! I’ve never thought of it this way and will use this drill exclusively in the future for release practice! Thanks Jake! Your invaluable to me and one of my instant go-to KZbin channels when I see a notification!

i follow my instructor teachings, but your videos are an invaluable input that is making me improve my shooting all the time. i also find super valuable, with my instructor and in your videos, the constant reminding and repetition of every little snippet of wisdom and technique, so this video is super welcome, as always. thank you very much, jake, i really appreciate your work.

Think you totally nailed it when you said let the string push your fingers out of the way. Explains why I get a much cleaner release with more draw weight.

Hi Jake, very helpful video, as usual. Are you going to follow up with a follow-through? :) I'm sure many people you coach do the same thing I do - the hand kind of flying off to the side without them realising it.

I kept having wild releases today, be all steady having the sight pin at the gold but moments before releasing the sight pin moves around the whole target, hitting poor shots quite often. Maybe I'm just a bit over-bowed. But, I am hoping to grow into the poundage I'm at currently which is 51 lbs.

im confused what muscle do u use to let go. or what movement. r u contracting shoulder or back or moving just the base of fingers?

Not sure if you'll see this, but do you mean keep the tension in the rest of your arm, and just relax your hand essentially? Instead of opening it, just relax it as quickly as you can to the point where the string beats the tension of your fingers? Is that what you mean by letting it go (the tension in the fingers?) as quickly as you can?

I guess I mean suddenly relax the string not purposely open the figures because than your hand may move right.

IIRC, There are multiple suppliers including the largest archery outlets in the world. Google is your nemesis, and the KGB doesn't allow free searches unless its the body cavity kind.

If you are practising your release by standing on your stretch band and letting it go suddenly, remember to wear shoes as it doesn’t half sting in bare feet! 😂

Technically you relax your forearm to stop the finger tension, and next step would be that your follow through kicks in

thnx. the " just let go" without using forearm muscles was confusing. i guess he means relax finger flexors but dont contract extensors.

Jake, I love your stuff and recommend it widely. But this one misses the mark. The question is - whether you are releasing a string, a shopping bag, a stretch bed or whatever, what is the process by which you can allow the string to go but still retain the hook. You don't even address that question, so all this video really does is to say that you do the black magic quick rather than slow, but it remains impenetrable black magic

As newby I am amazed and dumbfounded. This is a paradox, the sound of one hand clapping. I've taken lessons, but never heard anything like this, it is still making the coin disappear and then come out my ear.

Jake, consider reviewing your own videos and counting how many times you explain things with the word "just". As an instructor and coach, you might consider that the word "just" is a four-letter-word that is useless to the student. It only feeds confusion and depression - it does not convey ANY useful information. It's like saying, "this is sooo simple, how come you're too stupid to get it". I found I was doing this in my own instruction and resolved to filter it out by setting up a penny jar; I had a hard time keeping up with a supply of pennies to begin with. But my students appreciated it and say that the instruction becomes clearer when I have to elaborate rather than take the "lazy" way out by throwing in "just". So commit to just not using "just". 🙂

Ha, had to laugh, "You are just so stupid to get this simple technique" That's what I feel, I want to let go of the string, without opening my hand? What am I missing, a lot.
