Telepathic! Today I was working on feather to nose clicker and spent time thinking "when is going to go and it's shouldve been now" etc. All the good bad thoughts. I did realise that my ring finger was slipping a little every shot and wondering if it should add pressure and what would happen to my release if I did ... Then this video comes up on my feed! Awesome. Will work this in. And that t shirt was made for me!!! :)

YES!! In teaching others I have found this to br very important. If you change hook as you draw it really negates consistency which affects groups, string slap, and arrow behavior on rest.

I'm re-learning archery now that I want to try Olympic-style shooting. And I just happened to be wondering about how much pressure should each finger apply to the string, because I've noticed how it can change. Now I know. Whatever it is, keep it consistent. That principle of consistency applies to bowling and shooting. Probably to a lot of other sports like this. Thanks for taking the time to produce all of these videos, and sharing your hard-earned knowledge.

Great timing for this video…I noticed my index finger was not hooking like usual 2 weeks ago . The week after I fixed it and found it’s cause I’ve been straining myself the day before. Thank you for your videos!

What a coincidence. I watched my recorded training video and realize that my hook is not consistent. I want to rewatch your barebow form, but then your new video popped up talking about this. Thank you so much. Btw, the writing on your t-shirt is very interesting. 😃

Thanks Jake, is there any gauge or trick to measure the correct pressure on fingers before the transfer, especially the index finger.

At a beginner at 42, I don't think I'll be aiming for the olympics, but understanding the mechanics is very interesting. And I know from pool that even very small changes can have a dramatic impact and I think hitting the target is still more fun, even if I'm just doing it for recreation. I don't think I would've understood this on my own. It takes a lot of experience and knowledge to understand details like this, so thank you for that.

What about using finger tabs?
@philipsturtivant93852 жыл бұрын
OK, Kaminski - come clean: how does an Olympic medallist in Florida know what's up in my Buckinghamshire backyard Agincourt here in England, Dammit!?!? TO EXPLAIN For what it's worth, my Christmas treat was a KSL fingertab (pre-owned, hardly used, nice price, eBay UK) and I love it. BUT in the last 2 weeks, I've had a coupla 'episodes' . with it, which seem to me to relate to this video content. Episode #1 (Last week) I'm working on my form to inch myself closer to KSL perfection, and to bring my groups sizes down, and put every arrow where I want it, and I'm not making as much progress as I'd like (Who does? Ever?) and I slowly become aware that the 'feel' of my hook is not-quite-right. I (finally) check out my high-end KSL tab, and find the retaining screw for the finger spacer has been working loose over several days, to the point where the spacer is free to move pretty much unimpeded, and musta been moving incrementally out of position with every shot, over several days . . . . which is not helpful (rewind to the video for setting it up right, and all's well again) . . . Episode #2 . . . . . until yesterday, when (again) I get this creeping feeling in my fingertips that all is not-quite-right with my hook, and the feel is different from one arrow to the next, so I take a look at the KSL tab, and realise that over time, my fingers have been squeezing the silicon band (wrapped around the spacer) in such a way that - with each shot - it was being pulled down the spacer, towards the palm of my hand, unnoticed until it had moved some 3mm (although I'm old enough to have been taught furlongs, rods, poles and perches as units of measure, I don't do inches any more :-D ) a rate of change so small, I just didn't pick up on it until it became glaringly obvious.. Excellent video, for which I thank you, as ever. You look great in MY T-Shirt too :-D

Would changing tension in your hook cause the arrow to fall off the rest if not using a clicker?
@ThirdLawPair Жыл бұрын
Sometimes when I press hard into my anchor, it causes unwanted hand tension which completely changes my hook. How do I press my hand and index finger hard into my jaw while keeping my hand flat and relaxed?

does the pressure on each finger affect the shot ? for me i feel most pressure on my lowest finger

Unrelated question to the great Video: in an older Video you showed some powder you use for your finger tab when its hotter. What kind of powder is it and in what kind of bag do you store it in to also applicate it?
@garymickus64122 жыл бұрын
I believe it was rosin. I've used it and it reduces slippage in hot weather.

hey Jake, bit of an odd question, but why does it feel like my draw weight is lighter when I add more mass weight to my bow? (both barebow and Olympic freestyle, less so on compound)
@leductuanmail2 жыл бұрын
I got the feeling at full draw that my fingers are stretching, and with that it's really hard to get through the clicker, other time when my fingers at full draw are not, then get through easily. But the intension trying to "release" creeping in made my fingers stretch, im working out the way to fix this, any advices?
@TheCapthof2 жыл бұрын
I have a ring finger that does not straighten all the way. Just started experimenting with 2 under rather than 3 under and found it was much tighter groups. However the strength to draw a 45# bow is more difficult and the creeping off the string is more noticeable. A deeper hook helps but I am concerned about pinching a nerve in the joint. Any suggestions?
@henrys48382 жыл бұрын
When I set my hook I make sure that my wrist is bent outwards and the preponderance of pressure is on the bottom half of my fingers. However, when I pull back the string, my wrist begins to collapse inwards. I don't notice any change on finger pressure, though. Does this involuntary collapse of the wrist a detriment to accurate shooting?

How does different pressure on ring/index finger affect vertical impact? Can you use this tactic to reduce string walk? If so which finger reduces it? Does the index or the ring finger make arrow go lower?
@Triple_J.12 жыл бұрын
IIRC: This was covered in part in a previous video. Probably the one about correcting errors based on arrow impact.
@seowonmin2232 жыл бұрын
more tension on the top finger will move arrows higher as opposed to more tension on the bottom fingers, which will move your groups down on a split finger two below type hook.
