In a bit of a pinch I used a paper towel saturated with vegetable oil. It works well enough where I never bought any wood starters again.

I find lighting the egg with a piece of paper towel soaked with vegetable oil works as well as anything for lightening the egg. I have a propane weed eater and that will light the egg in a hurry but it scares my wife and I am not usually in a hurry when I use the egg. Watched a few of your recipes they looked delicious and I will add some of them to my repertoire. My egg is now 13 years old so the initial cost might have been high but I would be on my third gas bbq now while the green egg is working as well as it did on the first day and the operator is a little more proficient. Looking forward to seeing your pizza oven in operation.

How much do you recommend filling ur egg with charcoal

@@ChefDez oh ok I’ve had an issue for a long time with the fire staying lit and I ended up completely cleaning it out and went with a small pile and it worked out great

@@h1ddenmist259 not necessarily. It’s all about air flow. If it’s packed with a whole bunch of small pieces, then maybe. But I’ve had the firebox heaped with no issues
