It would be lovely if you did a remake of this video! Showing close ups of how you’re actually putting the lights into the tree. And adding an explanation of what you mean be “thirds”. When you first said that in the video, I was thinking horizontal thirds, as there was no explanation. I finally got it about halfway through the video that you meant verticals thirds. Also, an explanation on the size of your tree and how many strands of lights it took to do would be helpful. All that said, it’s still a good video for the tip of thirds. I’m getting my first ever real tree this year, and I got it flocked!! So excited! Your tree looks beautiful.

Hi there...thanks for the constructive comment This video is really old and always does the rounds again every Christmas. While the visuals aren't the best, I think I do describe what I'm doing verbally. It is vertical thirds...but in those sections, I do weave them horizontally. Anyways, hope it was helpful in some way!

@@AmidstTheChaos I still don't understand I am doing my first tree and didn't hear any of the verbal except about the thirds and shove it in, and then it was music and bottom part and then next part but I still can't figure out what your doing with the lights once your putting the lights into the tree. It looks beautiful I wish I could understand. Do you have another video. Explaining In detail. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this video... I bought my first Christmas tree last year and used this video to help teach me to put the lights on and it came out beautiful. I tried to put my lights on my new tree yesterday and apparently I forgot the steps because it didn't look the same so I had to come watch it again. I was way off but thank God for this video. a trick i learned was to use LED lights and wrap them around your arm (as you would a length of cord/string/rope)and then start from the top of the tree. This is good for a 6 or 7 meter tree that requires anything between 300-400 lights. There was very little entanglement & frustration doing it this way. Whatever you do, it'll take take time and over the years it does get easier.

Thank you for posting and trying to help all of us create a stunning tree. If we could see how you were actually layering or placing the lights, maybe a close up of what you are actually doing with the lights that would be very helpful. (half of the time you are almost behind the tree and I can't see anything that you're doing with the lights.) Are you weaving the lights from the inner branches and coming forward then back again? How tall is your tree and how many lights did you use per section? Do you start each section from the bottom or do you start the next section where you left off at the top? Thanks again, I hope I didn't come across as bitchy. 👏😀
@AmidstTheChaos
@AmidstTheChaos 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna, thanks for your comment. First, this was one of the very first videos I ever made for KZbin and I had NO idea what I was doing when it came to filming. I recognize the quality is poor and as the camera was set up on a tripod, there are no close-ups. That being said, I do verbally explain what I'm doing throughout the video. I do start at the back of the branch and weave it to the front of each layer of branches. I started at the bottom of the first section, wove it up and then worked my way down the second section and then back up the third section. I'm not exactly sure how many lights I used per section, but a good guide would be to allowed for two strands per section, depending on how many lights you want. This video got a lot of views this year and so I will try and film a better tutorial next Christmas! Thanks for stopping by and best of luck decorating your tree!

Thank you very much for replying. I realized after watching more of your videos that this was an older video and you were new at it. So congrats on all the views and I hope your subscribers are growing. It is def refreshing to watch someone that is not fake and full of themselves. I did my lights like you said and it was so much easier. My son helped by reaching the top of the tree for me and he agreed next year he'll do his tree this way too. My tree was also pre-lit. I should of tried to string the lights so that when I take the tree down I can leave the lights where they are and still separate the tree in three sections. Any tips on that.

Thank you Anna. Ya, my channel has grown significantly within the last three months, which is really exciting! So I'm trying to step up my filming/editing game and learning with each video! Glad to hear the tips ended up being helpful! It so much better than going round and round the tree. Our other tree is also pre-lit and we add in more lights. I don't keep them on though, once I take down the tree. They came off so easy because of this method, so I just take them off, coil them up and start again fresh the next year!

Thank you. I would do this if I were lighting an outside tree. In your close up, I can see a lot of exposed wiring. I could not be happy with that. For my indoor tree, I will keep doing the lights the very hard way. But since I will leave the lights on the tree when stored, I will have to suffer only once. My artificial tree comes apart in two sections so I light each section separately. All the branches are hinged to the tree trunk like the spines of an umbrella. I string one branch at a time, starting at the base of the branch, out to the tip, and then back to the base. Repeat for each branch. When I move to the next row of branches, I wrap the wire once around the trunk. I wrap the wire snugly around the center of each branch. I use a clip near the tip of each branch because the wire is doubled back upon itself. At the tip, you shape the wire into a narrow loop to avoid wire damage. The flexible plastic clip is barely visible. It is shaped like a tiny green horseshoe, just large enough to hold the branch and the wires. When I run out of clips I use floral wire at the branch tips. My lights connect end to end. With extra fussing, the connectors can be hidden at the base of a branch. When I'm done, no wiring is hanging loose in the air and each branch can move separately for storage.

I agree. The lady deserves a compliment for making a video that focuses on the subject and does not try to showcase herself. Some ladies get carried away dolling themselves up before recording. Its a DIY video, not a walk down the red carpet.

No! And the reason you've never heard of this method is because it's NOT the easiest way. And if you have a artificial tree that comes in 3 sections, you can lights each section thereby making it so my easier when you put your tree up the next year. Lighting your tree is not rocket science. Put some thought into it.

@Admist the Chaos Thank You for putting this Video Up. I got the idea Perfectly Clear But I did watch another video prior. In that Video, they showed 3 Different Methods and the Time it takes for each method. In that video, they did the same thing you did by doing a 3RD OF the Tree at a Time, However, they Outlined each 3RD 1ST BY taking a String Of Light Up then down Framing the 1/3 Arena. They then did the Weave that you clearly explained inside the framed area going up the Tree starting at the bottom. To Analyze you in this Video, Besides you being a very Gregarious Pleasant Soul, I would Surmise you to be a Manager of sorts at your place of Employment. It seemed to me that you explained this perfectly clear and when it comes to Service at a Restaurant or someone explaining something, I can be quite Anal with it. To me, your video should stand the Test Of time. However, if you do decide to do another video, May I suggest Christmas Attire, ie. A Santa Hat, Mrs.Claus Outfit or Elf Attire. Either Works. A Big Merry Christmas to You.

My ocd will not let me set up the lights this way. It takes me 6 hours sometimes more to put up the lights. I have to make sure the lights are evenly spread and the wires are hidden. I am trying to see if there is a faster way, however everyone doesn’t seem to care about hiding the wires and hang the lights up which ever way they want. Wish I could do that, but it would keep me up at night if I did. I think it’s time for a pre light tree next year.

What is the best way to run an extension cord in a real tree? I bought one of those 9 outlet holiday extension cords. My plan is to zip tie each outlet to the bark of the tree. Is this safe to do considering some of the bark is bond to have sap on it?

@AmidstTheChaos 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry. To be totally honest, I'm really not sure. I don't ever use real trees and I wouldn't know the safety concerns between the sap and the outlets. Probably a question you could ask at the hardware store. Sorry!

Kerry Kushetsky keep your tree watered, and use lights that don't get hot (led lights stay cooler). Try googling how to use a holiday extension cord. I haven't seen one so I'm not sure, I always connect each light strand to the next one as I'm putting the lights on, and I've never had a problem. You may also want to Google how to keep your Christmas tree hydrated.

Once you add in all the ribbon, florals and ornaments, you really don't see the cords at all. It's just obvious at this stage when it's the only thing on the tree.

Awesome! Glad you found us! It would really depend on how long the strings of lights you are using...but I would say for sure 1-2 strings for every 1/3 section!

This would not work for a normal tree that has quite a bit of space in between levels..I'm guessing. But looks pretty easy and I assume it would use more lights this way.
@AmidstTheChaos
@AmidstTheChaos 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by a normal tree...this is a very standard artificial tree from Costco that I'm using. it's also quite old, so the branches have drooped quite a bit. But I do think this technique works for any kind of tree. Once you get all the other decorations like ribbons, flowers and ornaments, you won't notice the strands of lights in between branches
@katirib
@katirib 7 жыл бұрын
I meant a 6ft artificial tree with quite a bit of spacing between the layers. Those old fashioned trees. Didn't realise yours was artificial as well. But i guess with the decor indeed it might hide most of it.

Hi.. you make a nice tutorial. There only one thing that I need to comment is, it safe if you pull out the electric before laying the lights. Or if you keep work with lights ON to trace if it suddenly lights not works because of the cable connection between the bulbs, you can use rubber gloves. Happy Merry X'Mas

I would say burry the lights as deep into the tree as you can if you want it to glow. Alternatively, I would probably buy more lights.

@AmidstTheChaos
@AmidstTheChaos 4 жыл бұрын
Yes - split into vertical thirds and work each section separately. Start the first section at the bottom and work your way up, but only in that 1st 3rd section. Once at the top of the first section, start making your way down the second third section. Once at the bottom of the second section, head back up to your third and final section!
