Awesome video as always and such an inspiration. My little thing today to hopefully get me started is to write this comment. After finding you online a couple years ago you were a big part of me making a decision to leave a boring mundane job that i had been doing for the past 11 years. I decided that there must be more to life than just working and paying bills. so last November I quit my job, packed up my van and booked a ferry to spain and I spent 12 weeks touring spain (wild camping) which was amazing and for the first week or so i was so scared and out of my comfort zone but loved it. I came back to UK end of January and this is where things started to go wrong. I lost my nan who i was very close to and also 2 months later lost my mother. Since then I have lost all hope and been wasting away this year by watching youtube and writing down awesome adventure ideas and I have many many note books full of video idea and adventures etc but never acted on them as always found an excuse not to start them. I have enough money to last me a year and then i will have to find a job again and work to pay bills and get in a rut again which i do not want to do. My main issue is confidence in myself and always worrying what others will think which i know i have to over come. I do not want to waste the year i have left as i have all the time in the world at the moment and wasting it. I to worked out how many years, months, days and hours i have until death and shocked me to find that i am over half way through my life (just googled average life expectancy which said 79) which to be honest made me depressed so wasted another week thinking about that. To my point as i have gone on a bit so if you are still reading well done. Your video has inspired me yet again and i have that fire in my belly and all excited so instead of just thinking about doing things i will just jump straight in and give it a go. Thanks

Hi Dave, thank you for such a thoughtful and honest comment. I don't want my talk to make you feel bad - I spend more than enough time frittering time, faffing around, getting disgusted with myself. But I would be delighted if it does prod you gently towards action. The funny thing is that you have done the hard part. You quit a job you didn't like, and you went on a fantastic big adventure. I would have thought this would have been great for your confidence - it certainly should counter the worry of what people think! Don't be so hard on yourself - you have had an extremely difficult time and you should not expect to just suddenly burst out of the other side of that all grinning and busy. I've been reading Atomic Habits which emphasises the importance of small, persistent, regular steps. The outcome is not apparent for a long time, so this is the hard part of persevering, but if you keep on doing small things you eventually end up with big, positive results. Good luck to you with whatever plans you choose!

Hello from Malaysia. About 3 years ago, you have inspired me to start my own microadventure, which helps me to have the my own adventure moments in life and not just watching others adventure video clips. Today, once again you get me to refine my definition of adventure. Adventure is about walking out our comfort zone and try something that makes our life colorful and exciting. If you happen to visit Borneo side of Malaysia, please do let me know ^_'

Wonderful talk! Thank you :) I'm 42 and in the process of learning to swim for the first time ever. It scares me to death but I feel quite liberated after each swim. One day I will be ready to swim in the sea and then I can learn to surf! Looking forward to that :D Micro-adventures ftw

Thank you Alastair - this is one of your most brilliant videos yet. Enough talk. Time to overcome our personal "Door-step kilometer" (hey - we're Aussie & use the metric system down here . . .).

Have a listen to The Adventure Podcast episode 1. He speaks really honestly there about the difference between doing adventure for a living and doing it for its own sake. Enjoy.
