Also, instead of manually assigning every single channel to send to a "MONITOR" BUS in your DAW, you can simply create a "Multi-Output Device" for your Interface + SoundFlower in the Audio MIDI Setup app. Then you don't have to fiddle with BUS assignments for every single channel strip on every single new DAW project file. Hope this makes sense, and simplifies the process for you Logic users. Thanks for this video!!! It was incredibly helpful.

THis is without a doubt the most clear, concise video on how to do this. I've been watching videos for a week on how to do this properly and yours is the best. THANK YOU!! My only problem is latency. Trying to monitor with processing (compression/reverb, etc..) is causing a delay that is so distracting. I have a 2015 Macbook i7 2.2GHz, 16gig Ram, Clarett Thunderbolt, using Logic but still LATENCY. Any videos or tips you can offer for that? Thanks again for the great video!
@TanoBrock
@TanoBrock 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul! So glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately latency is definitely going to be in the picture when monitoring processing from a DAW. However, it can be reduced. What’s your buffer size in Logic preferences?
@allpdmusic
@allpdmusic 4 жыл бұрын
@@TanoBrock usually 128. I've tried as low as 64 but then it starts crackling/popping. I will tell you something funny. After I commented I went and got an old Presonus Audiobox 44 I've had for many years and hooked it up. I actually felt it performed better slightly better. The Clarett's pres maybe way better but I wonder if it is something to do with Thunderbolt vs. Usb? It shouldn't be but maybe my Thunderbolt drivers are corrupt. I'm just getting frustrated..
@TanoBrock
@TanoBrock 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Yeah 128 should be plenty low. What kind of processing are you using on your tracks? Have you tried enabling the “low latency mode” in logic?
@yoyoshiii
@yoyoshiii 4 жыл бұрын
@@TanoBrock I think "low latency mode" will disable most of the plugins you have inserted in Logic. I am having the same issue with latency while stream. Im get a good sound but shitty latency that kills the performance. Help on this would be insanely helpful. Edit: OBS has an offset feature but measuring the latency from interface to DAW to OBS stream is a nightmare...

Hi y'all ! This video is great. First hip cut, Installing Soundflower took me undesired minutes !! I have the Mac Book Pro 2020. All good then !!

This is very useful - only comment I would make is that you can mirror the output in preferences and it will send to both sets of "speakers", meaning you won't have to make every channel send to a Bus and you can actually use Bus effects without it not being heard on the stream.
@heyitshasson

Hey Tano. I'm running Catalina. I just downloaded Blackhole and setup the Aggregate device. But Blackhole is 16 channels rather than just the 2 you were using with Soundflower. So what do you choose for the output of the Monitor Aux track?
@TanoBrock

Another tip that might work in Logic (I haven't tried it yet) so that you don't need to bus every one of your tracks manually. You route all your sounds to a single aux (highlight all midi/audio tracks on mixer, right click on "stereo out" and route to a new bus/aux. Set that aux to "Stereo Out") and then just add the reverse aux bus to the aggregate aux.

Hey Tano - awesome video. Straight and to the point and a real help to the community. However instead of using an Aggregate device, I would recommend using a Multi-Output device instead. You can select it from the same menu in the Audio + Midi Setup app, and it's actually made exactly for this use case. When you create the multi-output device, just check boxes for your audio interface + Soundflower and it will mirror audio to both sources. This way, when you select the Multi-output device as your audio output in your DAW, audio will automatically play to both your normal stereo out + Soundflower without needing to create an additional send or return track in the DAW. Much simpler. Power users who are interested in layering several different audio sources may also be interested in an app called Loopback by Rogue Amoeba software. It's like Soundflower on steroids, but it is a bit pricey at ~$100. Anyway - hope this helps, and keep up the good work!
@TanoBrock

Hey! Yes, I've tried using a Multi-Output device before. I prefer using an aggregate device because it allows me to have separate control over the monitor channel and the stream channel. That way, for instance, I could route a click track only to the monitor, and not to the stream.

This is really helpful, but I wanna know with Logic, can I stream whatever effects that I've added into it? I've been trying but it doesn't seem to get my effects when I'm streaming it... did I not do something right?

Yes, the method I show in the video will stream any effects you’re using in Logic. It streams the stereo output of logic.

Great video - I have similar setup which makes it awesome. Shame KZbin takes 24 hours to provide streaming key but hey still good.

BTW I had an issue getting my metronome in the dealio. If you go down to your mixer where it say "Single", "Tracks" or "All", hit "All" and you see that "Click" has it's own track. Now you can change the outputs to 3/4

Is there a work around if I'm using a Scarlett focus rite for the latency issue?

Great video! May I just ask that, if I wanna use console to mix the band I won’t be able to hear it through the studio monitor am I right? Cuz it’s going into soundflower. Just wanna double check. Thank you for video again.

Hey! Glad you liked the video. If you have a UAD interface, check this method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZDceJ6bYteKnZY. This will allow you to stream directly from Console and hear everything you're doing!

Question: very insightful video, thank you! How do I go about doing this without an audio interface or mic? My mission is just to stream Ableton and audio out from abelton to KZbin etc. can’t seem to find much information on that.
@TanoBrock
@TanoBrock 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! You can follow the same setup, just take the audio interface out of the equation. You can make a multiouput device that includes "built in output" and SoundFlower or BlackHole. your "built in output" will be your speakers or headphones.

Nice video. It seems the latency issue could be resolved by using Blackhole instead of sound flower? Have you tried using Blackhole before.
@TanoBrock
@TanoBrock 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have not used Blackhole. However, the latency isn’t coming from Soundflower. It’s coming from the DAW itself, and changes based on the buffer size.
@JBehrMusic
@JBehrMusic 4 жыл бұрын
Tano Brock Some sound applications like sound flower, can cause additional latency. It may also depend on your audio interface. But with black hole (by existential audio), it doesn’t add any additional latency.

Thanks for the informative video. Do you need an audio interface to do this? Would macbook speakers work with this method?

Great video, helped me a lot. In the end of the video you've said you can use 1 Mac for audio and another one for live-streaming. How do would send the audio from audio Mac to the live-streaming Mac?
@TanoBrock
@TanoBrock 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! You would just run TRS cables from the MON OUT of the interface connected to the audio computer, into inputs 1 & 2 of the interface connected to the video/streaming computer.

question....what software did you use to record your screen for this tutorial? I love how ableton and logic are fully captured in the screen display. For some reason I can't figure out how to do that myself, the view is always super zoomed in
