Also, instead of manually assigning every single channel to send to a "MONITOR" BUS in your DAW, you can simply create a "Multi-Output Device" for your Interface + SoundFlower in the Audio MIDI Setup app. Then you don't have to fiddle with BUS assignments for every single channel strip on every single new DAW project file. Hope this makes sense, and simplifies the process for you Logic users. Thanks for this video!!! It was incredibly helpful.

THis is without a doubt the most clear, concise video on how to do this. I've been watching videos for a week on how to do this properly and yours is the best. THANK YOU!! My only problem is latency. Trying to monitor with processing (compression/reverb, etc..) is causing a delay that is so distracting. I have a 2015 Macbook i7 2.2GHz, 16gig Ram, Clarett Thunderbolt, using Logic but still LATENCY. Any videos or tips you can offer for that? Thanks again for the great video!
@TanoBrock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul! So glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately latency is definitely going to be in the picture when monitoring processing from a DAW. However, it can be reduced. What’s your buffer size in Logic preferences?
@allpdmusic4 жыл бұрын
@@TanoBrock usually 128. I've tried as low as 64 but then it starts crackling/popping. I will tell you something funny. After I commented I went and got an old Presonus Audiobox 44 I've had for many years and hooked it up. I actually felt it performed better slightly better. The Clarett's pres maybe way better but I wonder if it is something to do with Thunderbolt vs. Usb? It shouldn't be but maybe my Thunderbolt drivers are corrupt. I'm just getting frustrated..
@TanoBrock4 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Yeah 128 should be plenty low. What kind of processing are you using on your tracks? Have you tried enabling the “low latency mode” in logic?
@yoyoshiii4 жыл бұрын
@@TanoBrock I think "low latency mode" will disable most of the plugins you have inserted in Logic. I am having the same issue with latency while stream. Im get a good sound but shitty latency that kills the performance. Help on this would be insanely helpful. This is very useful - only comment I would make is that you can mirror the output in preferences and it will send to both sets of "speakers", meaning you won't have to make every channel send to a Bus and you can actually use Bus effects without it not being heard on the stream.
@heyitshasson4 жыл бұрын
how do you do this? I am still unable to hear the "monitor" through a bus and am wondering if this could be an alternative method.

Another tip that might work in Logic (I haven't tried it yet) so that you don't need to bus every one of your tracks manually. You route all your sounds to a single aux (highlight all midi/audio tracks on mixer, right click on "stereo out" and route to a new bus/aux. Set that aux to "Stereo Out") and then just add the reverse aux bus to the aggregate aux.

Hey Tano - awesome video. Straight and to the point and a real help to the community. However instead of using an Aggregate device, I would recommend using a Multi-Output device instead. You can select it from the same menu in the Audio + Midi Setup app, and it's actually made exactly for this use case. When you create the multi-output device, just check boxes for your audio interface + Soundflower and it will mirror audio to both sources. This way, when you select the Multi-output device as your audio output in your DAW, audio will automatically play to both your normal stereo out + Soundflower without needing to create an additional send or return track in the DAW. Much simpler. Power users who are interested in layering several different audio sources may also be interested in an app called Loopback by Rogue Amoeba software. It's like Soundflower on steroids, but it is a bit pricey at ~$100. Anyway - hope this helps, and keep up the good work!
@TanoBrock4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, I've tried using a Multi-Output device before. I prefer using an aggregate device because it allows me to have separate control over the monitor channel and the stream channel. That way, for instance, I could route a click track only to the monitor, and not to the stream.

FYI: Using a Multi output device in audio midi setup instead of an aggregate device plays nicer with ableton

question....what software did you use to record your screen for this tutorial? I love how ableton and logic are fully captured in the screen display. For some reason I can't figure out how to do that myself, the view is always super zoomed in
