I started watching your videos and listening to your advice. I have lost 25 lbs and 5% of my overall body fat. I've been cooking at home and have been so happy with making my own food the way that I like it instead of going to fast food restaurants and being disappointed with the low quality food. I have also saved SO MUCH money from not eating out. I wish that this lifestyle was embraced by more Americans. Merci beaucoup 🇺🇲♥️

Once upon a time in the US, we did live more wholesome. Growing up, our families did eat meals together at set times, homemade meals, meat, potatoes, vegetables, dessert, rarely junk food, went to "the produce stand", never ate out, except fresh fish from the fish market on Fridays, played outside, riding bikes all over, swam at the local pool, reading on the front porch, went to church on Sundays, Sunday drives with family, blackberry picking, visited Grandma & Grandpa, set bedtimes, didn't use credit cards, saved up for big purchases, you get it....lived simply and smartly. Oh, and we were all pretty slim! What I call the good ol' days in Upstate NY! (I'm 60-ish). Some of us still try to be simple (and smart) and live this way. Ahhhhh. So I love the French and other countries! Thanks for your videos!

Your tip on prioritizing meal times is interesting - growing up here in the states a friend of mine always had family dinner at 6/7 pm at night, and no matter how badly we wanted to hang out we would have to wait until after her dinner (like how it sounds in france). Coming from a family that eats separate meals disjointedly in front of the TV it sounded horrible, but now looking into the future prioritizing meal times is something I really want to do when I raise a family.

As an American living car-free in an "unwalkable" city. In a lot of locations, this idea that we always need to drive everywhere is mostly in Americans heads and able-boddied people are driving the equivalent of a 10 or 15 minute walk on a daily basis thinking they can't walk it. Of course this isn't absolutely always the case, but the more you walk, the easier walking is, and that's really the main hindrance for many people where I live in the US.

Exactly. Problem is that it's actually dangerous to walk here sometimes. I live on a road off a big highway with no sidewalks. Walking to Aldi from my house takes 15 minutes, but I have to walk in the grass near cars going 40mph. Sidewalks are really important here.

Everything that you have explained in this video are the things that I am trying to do right now. I grew up with a French grandmother and my mom (who has French roots as well) was very cautious of what we eat. My mom never allowed me to drink soda or any other form of sugary drinks. If we did it was always seltzer water. I went to France for four months through college 9 years ago and I got to see first hand these habits that align with the habits of my French grandmother and my mom. Because of these things, I'm thinking about going into nutrition down the road. Thanks for sharing this video 😊

I’m so excited to implement these rules in my life. I live alone, so it’s hard to be held accountable for my eating habits, but just today, I decided to have a glass of wine with my mini frozen pizzas (trying to go through what I have in the freezer/fridge before I buy any more food, which is rare for me! I waste so much food because I just keep buying more and more when I have plenty), inspired by a couple French paradox videos, and I swear, I was so much more full on less food than I usually eat, because it was a nice glass of wine (forcing me to consume more slowly, to get my money’s worth! :) ), and I was eating more slowly. I had a few raspberries after that, and was completely satisfied. Before the French paradox videos and your own, I would, say, eat that frozen pizza, in about a third of the time it took me to eat it tonight, and be ready for another meal. I’m going to start blocking off time in my calendar every day for just eating, and make sure I take up the full 30 min to just eat (not including cooking time! :) )

I'm Armenian-American and meals were always prioritized growing up. We ate dinner as a family every night. I find sticking closer to my roots helps me eat healthier. I love eating at Armenian restaurants because the quality of the food is high. (I just realized what a play on words I used there. Armenians call themselves Hyes. 😂)

This was an excellent video! I’m from Canada, but many of these tips are still so useful to me👌🏼 I was in france living with a host family earlier this year, and I would always write down some of the things I wanted to continue doing when I got home, such as prioritizing meal time (dinner especially) and making more of an effort to get together with friends (apéros). A big thing I loved was how my host family always had such a peaceful Sunday, often with family…I try to have a relaxing Sunday before my week now too!☀️✨

The biggest hurdle for me is finding fresh groceries. I live in the US in a town where everything is spread out so it’s an hour of driving just to get to the grocery store then another hour in the store due to long lines. So spending 2 hours getting fresh ingredients and THEN having to spend time cooking after work is just not realistic when I also have family obligations I have to attend to after work as well. If I have fresh produce delivered, there is usually a minimum which requires me to order in bulk and then a lot gets wasted because I can’t use it fast enough before it goes bad. I’ve even thought of growing my own vegetables but my home owners association has rules forbidding that.

I've been learning more about hr french way of life, and I have to say I adore it! So many Americans do not like hustle culture, the food laws here, or our health care system (I fully believe the French eat healthier because your government pays for your healthcare, education on healthy eating saves them $$$). The biggest one for me has been slowing down when I'm eating, really tasting my food, and cooking with variety at home. Food is really expensive in the US right now, so eating multiple different meals eat week can get pricey. Doing my best to make different meals with the same ingredients/cheap ingredients. Avoiding take out has saved me so much money + made me feel healthier. I really wish we could do something about our crap food laws here, but thank you for shining attention on them for those who didn't know 🌟

I'm glad I found your Channel🩷 I live in Las Vegas, a soooo far from French type living as you can get! But I'm very attracted to this lifestyle...cos I grew up very much in the Mediterranean way, food wise, fashion wise, mindset & mostly in the general European way! I grew up eating Charcuteri and a lot of canned variations of sardines, octopus, cuttlefish, cockels..etc. actually my Mom and I snacked on it, as we were cooking...I knew how to Cook at 12 yrs old.

Thank you for this. It's the first video of yours I've seen so far, but will definitely watch more of them. My mother worked for the American Embassy in Paris in the 1950s, and loved what she learned about French living. It's helpful to hear these tips, reminding me of what I learned from her. I love what you said about living life slowly. I need to do this, but tend to feel guilty about it. Thank you for affirming that this is not just ok, but important. Wonderful tips over all.

I recently found your channel and love watching your videos because I'm well aware that Europeans and people in other cultures have centered their lives in very different ways than Americans. But as an American who suffers from illnesses that my doctors have directly attributed to pesticides and chemicals in foods and surrounding environment, molds, hormones in animal products, and other things like vaccinations from an early age and even airborne toxins, I can definitely say that those things do matter where my health is concerned. I have a very limited diet (no wheat, corn, soy, pork, legumes--yes, almost all legumes, additives like guar gum, xanthum gum, MSG, caffeine, etc. plus the usual sodas, dairy, chocolate, etc...) that makes even eating at home difficult and more work. I truly wish I lived in an environment where I could walk almost everywhere and shop at local markets and farmers markets, even occasionally. However, videos like yours keep me inspired to continue improving on my childhood habits and lifestyle, keep focusing on the good stuff in life and the things that really matter. So thank you and keep recording!

I enjoy your content, and I have heard you talk about poor produce quality in the US. This depends on where you live. Currently, I live in AZ, and the availability of quality produce outside of the farmer’s market is pretty bad, and even the market is somewhat limited. Restaurants here seem to get first pick of the good stuff because the quality is often great at restaurants. However, if you buy local produce in many areas such as Washington, Oregon, Colorado, rural Virginia, West Virginia, and many other states, you can get produce that is so high quality and delicious that it is difficult to eat the garbage you find in a few states that have limited options. I grew up eating vegetables my family grew and picking wild berries, apples, and grapes in Virginia, and the berries in Washington rival the wild ones. I would also add that the UK, Australia, and New Zealand have similar health statistics as the US now, but the US is improving. We even have some great healthy restaurants nationwide now that have delicious healthy options that do not include sprouts and wheat grass. There are also some cities in the Us where folks do not need cars, but having a car is no excuse not to walk. It is too hot to go outside here much of the year, but we have indoor options. I have always had an hour for lunch, but I never used it because I am always focused on my career. I am going to try to work on that.

I love your content but I just can't listen to it anymore because of the high audio quality. It might be the closeness and high quality of your microphone, because I hear you as if you were whispering into my ear, sharp and too clear, and it has become very uncomfortable even if you're on speaker or on my laptop. It is not your style of speaking, I got used to that with time (though at the beginning your speech was more natural, which I preferred). There are many other podcasters and KZbinrs whom I stopped listening to because of this, so I understand if it's a trend, but I just wanted to share my experience.
