This is a rad series! I so agree that the zero waste movement has this misconception that it needs to be perfect and therefore requires a lot of resources. But it's so much more than that! I'm so pumped that there are more peeps around here that are being way more realistic about this!

I would just like to add that if you don’t like leftovers there’s a lot of things you can do to make a new meal out of your leftovers. For example I often start with a soup, make a pasta sauce out of it the next, still some left? Put it in a pie for the third meal. Changed my life (:

Thanks! I feel like the biggest turn off for change for me is cost. Thankfully, my community as a whole likes to be decently environmentally friendly cause we live in the country. So we do a lot of trading instead. For example yesterday my dad did repairs on our local supermarkets delvery van. They gave us 2 weeks worth of food for free in exchange instead of money. Love that place since the only thing packaged veg wise are large sacks and already chopped things for disabled people. If you come in early enough you can bring your own containers for food like fish, meat etc.

Summary: 1. Make sure the dishwasher load is full. 2. Propagate your own plants. 3. Make all your bills paperless. 4. E-mail receipts 5. Save the envelopes with plastic windows to reuse 6. Flip over the paper (e.g. used for grocery list) to use the other side too 7. Sign a petition for a cause you care about 8. Quit using ziplock bags - put leftovers in a container (box, jar) or invest in a reusable silicone bag 9. Avoid leftovers - put leftovers in the front of your fridge to remind yourself to eat them. 10. Or just don't make leftovers. 11. See if your guests will take your leftovers if you do not like leftovers 12. Mealplan - how many ingredients you need for food 13. Move all the older items forward in your pantry or fridge 14. Use box/bin for the "eat first" food 15. Refuse: quit using produce bags - apples and many other fruit have a natural peel. 16. You can also make a reusable produce bag from old textiles. 17. If you need produce bags, use them as dog poop bags 18. Skip grocery bags. Just put your food items in your car into boxes and baskets in your trunk. 19. Flush less 21. Reuse old stretched-out hairties - use for phone cords etc 22. Make your own plant milk 23. Make your own butter - plant milk, vinegar, oil, coconut oil 24. Make your own mayonnaise - milk, acid, oil for the vegan one 25. Cut meat out of your diet (one meatless meal or day a week) 26. Use what you have.

I agree 100% on not needing bags at the store and just using your cart to transport to the car since some stores are not letting people bring in their own bags....of course, this works too if you forgot your bags or had a spontaneous shopping trip (like I do regularly 😳). I really started carting produce, etc. without any bags once Grocers/ stores transitioned to more self checkout lines. Using a two cart system to keep track of what has already been paid for is a lot less problematic than telling a cashier that you brought your own bags....at least that is my experience lol

I believe flushing half is better than no flushing once a day. If an average person goes to the loo 10 times a day, flushing half would end up saving water equivalent to 5 full flushes. However, this is only possible if you have a pull down button flush.
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist3 жыл бұрын
interesting...do you mean flushing half the amount of times? So instead of flushing 10 times it would be 5? I'm a little lost. If this is the case, how is flushing 5 times better than flushing 0?
@samaitadas97723 жыл бұрын
@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist In some toilets you would have a cistern where you pull a handle to flush. If you push it fully it is a full flush, and if you go halfway and leave it, it is a half flush. We use half flush for No. 1 and full flush for No.2.

Usually I would agree 100% and in many countries the imperative to conserve water has been fruitful, but this is strictly depending on the region you are living in. In Germany, the strict conservation has had unforseen side effects on the sewerage and pipe-systems, which more frequently clog and have to handle the production of a higher amount of microbes and gases. The water works companies actually have to use a lot of water (and its usually drinking water!) and manpower to unclog the pipes again and keep up the maintenance. And in the end, the total amount of used water is higher than would have been if the individual customer had not made an effort to conserve water. Also, the water supply companies allocate the costs of the water use for the unclogging to the customer. Even though the customer has saved a lot of water by consciously making an effort, the costs and actual water use have increased. So this really is a double-edged sword and one should always check with their community/state/country how the situation is regarding this problem. (Some experts in Germany actually advise to cease the strict water conservation since we have the problem with the pipes and technically no water shortage.)

As long as paper and cardboard isn’t glossy or have plastic on it, I rip it up and use it for my daughters hamster or our guinea pigs’ bedding. We use black soldier fly larvae and composting worms and no food waste, cardboard, dead plants etc don’t go to waste
