How to Livestream using Sony A6300 and OBS No capture card needed

In this video I will show you how to livestream using Sony A6300. We will use two free software options, Remote Control by Imaging Edge and OBS. I also included a list of other Sony cameras that can be used in the same process for streaming without the use of a capture card.
The first step is to download and install both Sony Remote Control for tethering the camera and then install OBS Open Broadcast Software to run your livestream.
Next you will need to connect your camera via the mini usb port from the camera to your USB port on either your PC or laptop. If you bought your SOny A6300 brand new it will come with the mini usb cord. If not then you will need to get one online and make sure it is the right usb connection for your Sony camera.
Access the camera menu and turn on the option for PC Remote. Now open the imaging edge Remote on your PC and you will be able to see yourself on the screen. Note, you have to leave the Remote View Window open, do not minimize otherwise it will freeze and not show up once you run OBS.
Now launch OBS. Create a scene. Go to sources then Window Capture and find Remote exe. You will now be able to see the Sony LiveView and then be able to begin your stream.
There is a list of Sony cameras you can use with Remote Control at the end of the video. I will mention a few of them right here

Hello Brother! I felt this was a very straight forward tutorial for all those Sony users to follow. I am getting somewhat comfortable with OBS. That program is capable of many different things but it's not easy for beginners. All the modifying that it requires could be a little more user friendly. So when you hit "start streaming" that would work if you have the address into OBS. I know you have to copy and paste the KZbin address when you want to do that. I still haven't tried streaming from OBS yet. I used ECamm last week and it was way easier and the quality was great. The downfall is that it's a paid program. Random question and i know this is an older video, but have you ran into an issues where the camera will shut off or stop recording when trying to record to an sd card and stream at the same time?

Yes, all cameras that record video that are DSLR or mirrorless shut off after 30minutes. They do this because of the marketplace with regular Camcorders

Hi there, ok so the first thing to check is to make sure the camera is of the filming mode, and make sure that LiveView is turned on via the camera

Since you are only using it for streaming it will not overheat. Also if you use it with a dummy better it will work even better.

Hi! I have both a Sony a5100 and a6300 and use them in tandem for streaming. I have them both connected via battery adapter with power cord. The a5100 has given me absolutely no problems at all. It stays on all the time. It doesn't matter how long it has been off, when I turn it on via power switch, it always stays on. However, the a6300 shuts off after 30 mins. I'll adjust the settings and then it will stay on. But if I leave it off for too long (maybe a week), it will only stay on for 30 mins again. Very frustrating. Do you have any insight/solution? Thanks!

Hi Michael, is the A6300 on LiveView mode when you are running it? the only thing I can think of is that the internal battery might be low or expired. Mine does not keep the time or time zone anymore. I have a feeling it has an internal battery that I could not access. Not sure if that might be the issue but I'll ask around and see if I can find an answer for you.

@@artemorbid I do believe it is in Live View mode. It is in the dial position which looks like a piece of movie film. I concur with your assessment. Yes, this is common issues using this method. I think in the comments someone figured it out. here "thank you Virtual Gunner for providing assistance regarding the audio sync. "Simply delay audio to 250ms , it gets matches with mic. audio."

Hi Verena, I never tried for more time than that but I believe if you touch any button on the camera before the 30 minute mark it resets and will continue. Also, you can get a external battery pack which let's you connect the camera to the wall outlet. Something like this amzn.to/3nwvUEU

Good morning, yes but it would require a dummy battery, the battery would plug into the wall and keep the camera on for a very long time.

Yes indeed it would, you would just have to Window Capture with the particular Software but they all have it.

I connected my a6500 to the pc and it can record through the obs system thats great but here is the problem. I am using my headsets mic and when i speak while looking at the camera my voice is out of sync to a6500 when i watch the video i recorded. Do you know how i can solve this? great video btw

Leave the Sony liveview on, don't minimize it or it will not work. You can either try to find the liveview or do a smart window capture around the liveview and it should work.

Hello, awesome video, thank you. The only problem is on this website: support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/imagingedge/pl/devices/#emount under "Display Live View" sony a6300 has no check mark. And this is true for my a6300, I connect it but see no display. Did you do anything special or Sony just disabled this option for older model once a6400 was released?? I'm using mac with only usb-c, maybe the adapter to usb-a is the problem? I couldn't really find a microUSB - USB-A adapter.

Hey there, I'll double check but it should still work as I described it in the video. Since it's free and it's more for doing timelapse I dont see why they would take it away. Try it, i think it will work, also make sure that the camera is also set to live view and it's on video mode. I'll check back to see if I can find out any more details
