**One extra step I had to take that wasn’t on the video** Since I have always been monitoring Logic through my Mackie Big Knob, my computer’s BUILT IN OUTPUTs were in use. When configuring speakers, I had to change the output to my Apollo Twin’s output for it to reach Virtual 1&2. Threw me off for a while until I caught it. Just a heads up….

Great tutorial, Steve! Have you seen that Zoom recently added a feature that allows you to select which input channels it sees in your interface? This allows you to select the MON L/R channels (i.e. channels 15 and 16 in my Apollo X4) without having to redo the I/O Matrix. I think that makes things a lot easier. Do you see any drawbacks to using this new feature? Thanks!!
@TheSteveKinney11 ай бұрын
The drawback is that it doesn’t seem to function as intended. It’s buggy. But hopefully it works as intended in the future.

There is one thing I can't figure out though. If I route "System Audio" through Virtual 1/2 -> Aux 1/2, that means I'm sending my Zoom opponents voice back to them and they are hearing a delay that I can't hear. Any ideas? At least in FaceTime, this was the case.

Do you have any advice on getting your Apollo microphone audio synced with an external camera? For example using a DSLR either with a capture card or webcam software to have Zoom recognize the camera as a webcam. Audio is coming from an SM7 into an Apollo twin. The audio is pretty out of sync. Any way to get those to line up?
@TheSteveKinney5 ай бұрын
@@framewavemedia4831 you need to be able to delay the audio. For that - you’d need something like an atem mini.
@framewavemedia48315 ай бұрын
@@TheSteveKinney Thanks for the reply! - Is there a software option for that? I think you mentioned Loopback. Is that what that can do? You're saying applying a manual amount of delay until things look synced up right? I guess the other option would be to send audio out of the Line out via 1/4" into the camera via 3.5?

Nobody has mentioned or seem to run into the issue where - no matter the routing configuration - when you use input 1 & 2 as monitor L / R, no matter what, i can hear the raw audio of my synthesizers plugged into 1& 2. even with the track muted / fader turned down in Console. Same with the DAW, while I hear the mixed audio at the same time using the input 1&2 = MON L/R I still hear the raw audio of 1 & 2 on my screen recordings and in my streams unfortunately. Even if I had my microphone plugged in to 1 or 2, i dont want to hear the audio from the interface - or pre-daw so to speak.
@aaronellson98499 күн бұрын
So how come when I have my input set to Monitor L / R, the apollo is set to be the mic/aux audio inside OBS, I can hear my DAW output and my mac audio on stream. BUT - I still hear inputs 1 & 2 (physical) coming through the stream. You said in the video it doesnt matter what i have plugged in to 1 / 2 because digitally we have made the change in routing. So th software should only be hearing what it's told to hear, right? This doesnt help for streaming performances or doing any sort of live audio work when you have all inputs on the apollo being used by gear and mixed through the DAW

Hi Steve, I'm close but no cigar. The annoying audio (doubled) source from Blackhole is always there. It prevents me from having precise control over monitoring regarding fader levels in Console. How do I shut that source off? I went into audio/midi set up and muted but that did not seem to help. I sent you an email and would be happy to pay you for some guidance here. Thanks bud.

Would you recommend getting a capture card or just do regular screen recording? For example I want to record my beat making process and wasn't sure if I should just screen record or get a capture card. I have an Apollo x4 so after watching this not sure if I would need a capture card I guess?
@TheSteveKinney Жыл бұрын
There may be a few advantages to getting a capture card - but it’s not entirely necessary. All of my screen caps are just OBS and routing properly into the inputs of OBS.

I have a similar situation mentioned earlier in the comments where I do Zoom or FaceTime calls with mic only, or with both mic and guitar plugged into the HiZ channel (when I am taking lessons). However the sound from my monitors creates an echo inn the mic that is hard for the person on the end. I don't seem to get this when just using my laptop. I've tried different gain levels and moving things.....is there something I should be doing to better isolate my mic from the monitor volume? use a more directional mic?
@TheSteveKinney Жыл бұрын
Are you using headphones in both scenarios?
@natebowler1006 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSteveKinney I'm am not. My hope was to have a similar user experience that I had previously over FaceTime where the bluetooth speakers and laptop mic I was using for the call didn't require me to wear headphones while playing guitar. It seems FaceTime and Zoom somehow handle this feedback loop to minimize echo/feedback/looping when not using an audio interface, but when I test FT, Zoom, or just making a phone call with Mac, the people on the other line complain of distracting echo.
@TheSteveKinney Жыл бұрын
@@natebowler1006 if you’re using a condenser mic - they are really meant for studio application. They are super sensitive. If you have your speakers on along with those mics - it will pick up the ambient noise from your speakers and feedback. Best to use headphones at least. In addition- using a mic like the sm7b for your spoken dialogue and then your guitar directly plugged in will get you the best results.

@@TheSteveKinney ok. thanks for the tip. when I resort to just using my laptop mic, it works ok (I am configuring zoom directly to route input to the laptop mic instead of the UA...I'll get a new mic and see how it goes.

Thank you. Changing mics has helped with the ambient noise. My remaining issue (and this is probably a naive question because this is all still really new to me), is how do I prevent Mic 2 from coming out of my monitors in the mix? Is there a way to not hear Mic 2? I have the following setup: Audio/Midi Speakers L/R:Virtual 1/2 I/O Matrix OUPUTS 1/2:MON L/MON R I/O Matrix INPUTS 1/2:AUX1 L/AUX1 R I/O Matrix INPUTS 3/4L HiZ Line1/Mic Line2. I am sending my HiZ, Virtual 1/2, and Mic2 into Aux 1. Is there a way to eliminate Mic2 from coming out of my speakers in mix that is coming out of the MON L/MON R output? This feels like a pretty basic mix/console question, so again, I apologize.

Nope I'm lost. A virtual channel is just a channel you can assign to a different output? What would you charge to take my screen over and set mine . I can't record in Luna . I can in Studio One and Pro Tools, well not anymore in PT . I along with countless other people get an assertion error message. But I can still record in SO. But I want LUNA! I tried to set up my Matrix in Core Audio last night thinking I was all set and then nothing. I can record Virtual Instruments in LUNA tho. It's starting to get to me . Been trying for months. Trying to stay positive but I'm running low on Positivity. Do u have the ability to take over my screen ? And what would it cost me?

Since you’re on Mac - ya - it would be something we could do via my 1:1 sessions. You can book time directly from my website in the mentor section via calendly. Once we are on a call - we can get the screen sharing set up - it’s part of a standard Mac utility via iMessage. We can walk through it that way Or we can just screenshare and work our way through it via zoom etc. Cheers mate!

The only thing missing here is how to send Zoom speaker to a Virtual Channel. I still haven't found anywhere online that would say how to do that, or if it's even possible. Every audio coming out from my computer-that it's not Zoom-goes indeed into the assigned virtual channels. But somehow, Zoom is the only thing that doesn't route properly. There's no way for me to adjust the volume of the teacher. Sorry if this has been asked already...

@@coatza86 no no, you’re good. Ha I didn’t take it that way.. just can’t help but share my frustration with zoom at this point LOL The answer to your question is a complex one. It involves setting up particular routing assignments in UAD console, and then in the Audio Midi setup in macOS settings There isn’t really a way to send JUST zoom audio to a virtual channel - as zoom outputs it’s audio to the SYSTEM audio in macOS. So anything from spotify email sounds, iMessage sounds will all be going down that same path as the virtual channel - if that makes sense. It’s a nightmare. And zoom needs to fire everyone in their developers department.
