Wow Steve - wish I came across this video when you released it (make sure I am subscribed now!). I have had the SSL for a while and been using Luna since you started doing videos about it. I didn't realize SSL and UA make such advancements here, and your demo of them (especially Flip!) is awesome. It’s an amazing controller isn’t it? I’ve had them all. MCU, faderports, icon pro audio.. Nothing comes close to what this one does. And that new UF1 is looking like it will truly expand upon the workflow freeing up a ton of the soft keys for new macros. Badass.

One feature I'm finding super useful is in "selection mode" hitting the "rec" button and being able to spill any of the busses in Luna. The spill feature is already a home run, but a game changer with the UF8....

Good stuff! I’d like to be able to scroll across the Mix window from left to right and vice versa in the future, too. You can do this in the Timeline window. Really speeds things up.

I believe you can do this with the UF8. Turn off “nav” mode. Then you have mixer follows selection. My icon nano did this as well.

Great video Steve, I love everything you are putting out. What is your feeling on UA enabling the Plug-in feature and allowing us to use the V pots to control them? Open them using they send/plugin buttons 1-8...etc? If I could control my unison plugins, record FX and insert effects (maybe even the API console emulation) this thing would be unbelievably powerful and I hate the idea that I may have to buy a UC1 or Console 1 for plugin control when it seems it could all be in the UF8....Pete

I’d bet money that they have something under the hood planned. I mean - it just makes sense. As to how that looks - your guess is as good as mine, but there is no way they won’t develop something unique.

7:15 - The fine control should give you more granular control over your pan knobs. Check the option in 360 where it can be turned off and on. If it is enabled in 360 using the button on the UCF8 will basically have no impact because it is already on. Looking forward to trying the UF8 with Luna. Just unboxed it and have only used it with ProTools so far. Thanks for the vids. Very helpful. Side question...have you found a way in Luna to display a marker window and then jump to specific markers with the UF8?

Totally agree with the UF8, not being able to access inserts and controlling plugins directly. As I understand it, it works with most other DAW's, even the ancient old HUI protocol in Pro Tools. Quite a dessipointet actually IMO. I wonder how come Luna is so behind, on this matter. Do you know if some of the other midi controllers out there, are better integrated with Luna, or is it like this with all of them? 🤔Thank a lot! 👍

Yeah - I’d have to guess they have some sort of plan in place for this implementation. I really loved what they did sends and cues. So Id guess they are likely just brainstorming how to implement something really great. But ya - it’s just missing at this point.

I have a Behringer X Touch, does everything you just mentioned. Its not just SSL. That being said, I really like it, mixing with sliders lets you move several tracks at a time, instead of one at a time with a mouse, same for adjusting pan. I like they added the cues/send function. Getting levels set to more than one track at a time, ex… 3 tracks going into same send, for say reverb, you can now mix that with sliders. Logic has plugin controls, won’t be long Luna will allow it too.

Hey mate! Ya - the behringer is a cool little controller, definitely does not have the customizable commands.. I probably should have went further into how deep you can take it... you can create full blown macro's...but ya - the main stuff is there for sure... the plugin control stuff is just aweful though. Overly cumbersome to map out.. I'd bet money that UA is keeping this in mind.

I went into logic and was able to use X Touch to control plugins as well, very small learning curve. After this last Luna Update, hopefully, there will be another update soon. Drew made the comment that the “EQ” button on controller to control the cues was temporary, and would change soon. On a sidebar, I went into 🍎/system prefs/display and changed my font sixe +1, what a difference in Luna

Yeah! I know I’ve used it in fair light but it’s a lot of basic features. I think the winner for that is gonna be a dedicated BMD console.

Yeah - you can download the free pack and install it into ssl 360 - which will show the exact shortcuts. I don’t have them written down anywhere since I kind of just built it as I went.

Yeah - I cover it in my last video on my channel with the UF8. The updates highlights basically adds the support for sends and cue control. And it ROCKS. Definitely check out that video on my channel. No plugin control yet outside of the “focus” mode.

yeah - there is a bit of work left to be done in the midi workflow, but generally speaking ,it's good enough for me. I like how damn near everything in Luna is automatable.

100%, love the fusion- the hardware anyways... LOVE the real thing. Haven't used the plugin.. I know dan worrell ripped one of their plugins recently.. That fusion hardware is one of the few modern devices on my hit list to try to pick up. Cheers mate, more to come!

highly possible that you don't have the UF8's profile setup correctly for the DAW you're in... if you're in luna, luna now has it's own profile... if you don't have a profile for the UF8, then you probably need to update SSL 360 now when you mention first plugin insert, does that mean you're running one of SSL's plugins like the 4kB? cause that's a different story.

@@lordwormpie I think it’s that it’s one of the newer VST3 formats and it’s not entirely a supported for in Luna. Think of it like ara. The plugin works as a plugin but the extra features are still not entirely supported.

@@Tizbax legitimately, I’ve never thought to try it. I’d be surprised if you can - but one way to know is just look up Luna shortcuts and see if there is a keyboard shortcut or an MCU command for it. I’m not in my studio at the moment otherwise I’d try it. Happy 4th!

Thanks Steve, I just picked up the UF8 based on this video. There's a bug I can't figure out. When I opened my first song in Luna the UF8 displayed all the track names correctly. BUT it continues to show those names incorrectly on every song I open! I've rebooted luna, 360, and the UF8 (boy to I agree with your silent condemnation of the lack of power switch) to no avail. any help out there??
