My mother taught me, when I was a young adult, that if you need to be on point for an important phone call, ALWAYS get dressed nice, do your hair and make up. Even though no one will see you over the phone, it makes you feel confident and puts you in the correct state of mind to be the best you can. Basically if you look good, you will feel good. It works too. Seems silly to put that work in for someone who won't see you but it's not for them, it's for you.

Ages ago I remember Dita Von Teese once said her ultimate beauty tip for 'running out the door' when you have no time or feel awful - is red lips and sunglasses, maybe a wide brimmed hat - so you can look like you are on a fancy vintage run to the beach or something.(She didn't phrase it that way - but it's what I imagine whenever it's warm or sunny enough to justify that lol - but I can use the turtle neck and create the 'winter' version haha )

Interesting, some of this is similar to me and some is almost the exact opposite of what I do 1. Wash and blow dry hair as a bad hair day can really worsen my mood. Plus, at least I don't have to deal with my issues till I'm washing my hair. 2. Leave the hair flowy so it draws attention away from the face + it's something to hide behind. 3. Put on something soft - now this one can be a black turtleneck, and it actually often is, because it matches with other clothes easily and I don't have to think about the look of the outfit & optimising the outfit for comfort. 4. Chapstick and under-eye foundation. Chapstick as my skin is on the dry side and this gives extra comfort, under-eye foundation to make the dark circles disappear. 5. Pick rings / earrings that make me happy, so that I have something to touch / look at throughout the day that I really love.

For someone who always does full face and would be uncomfortable leaving the house virtually bare faced (like myself), I’ve found the least fussy way to pull myself together that takes 2 seconds, is to , instead of moisturizer/ primer/ foundation/ concealer/ powder, just use a BB powder or powder foundation. It is so quick and it’s astonishing how much it hides. Ones that work well for me are Pur cosmetics powder foundation, gosh BB powder, and Mac powder foundation, though Pur has the best colour match for me.

This was like therapy for me! Thanks ❤️ looking forward to the 52 part series ;) The sleek hair and turtleneck is my go-to most days (either cuz I’m late or feeling like poop), but instead of the red lip I usually go with earrings or a necklace. But I’ve been doing more red lips lately and loving it ! I just need to find a bright red like yours that goes with my olive skin tone. Yours is just a little paler than mine.

Wow, this is exactly my strategy, too, but I didn't even realize it! Thanks for making me realize it! Mostly I do add a comfortable earring (simple pearl, simple gold or silver or diamond stud, simple hoop, nothing too dangly/flittery). This is a great video idea an I look forward to more in this series!

Fantastic video, Hannah! Very realistic and practical. I like how you call those steps a "strategy". The trick of the red lipstick I've been doing for years, it's so easy and quick and has a great impact. The slick hair I started doing a while ago and it's been a good discovery for those kind of days. However, I don't agree with the black turtleneck, it might look polish on other people but in my case, with black hair and pale skin, I look like the floating head of a ghost. So actually I only wear dark turtlenecks on days that I know I'm going to apply full makeup, otherwise, I prefer to stick to white sweaters, which make me feel more alive. Another good trick for me is to wear my big gold hoop earrings, they're always flattering and elevate any look. I'm very curious about part two of this video, looking forward to it!

Hannah I do this so often as a chronic migraine sufferer. Whenever I have to pick up my girls from school this is my staple look on such days. I also have very fair skin as yourself so a red lip has always brightened my complexion. But what I personally love is a red tinted lip balm. Its a quick, understated way to wear a red lip and does all the work for you already by being subtle and blurring. I always carry a red tinted lip balm in my purse for such occasions. I also love cushion foundations bc they’re so easy to apply. This video was so great! I’m looking forward to part two.

I have several chronic illnesses, so every single day i wake up feeling something less than 100%. The result of this is that each day is different in terms of what i am able to do to "put myself together" for the day. It is interesting to me that my prioritized list is so similar to the one shown in this video. I go for "easy to put on, but make it stylish" for clothing, especially when my joints are extremely achy. "Doing my hair" means addressing only the pieces framing my face, because i usually can only hold my arms above my head for a few minutes at a time. Makeup is always done in this order: brows, complexion, lips, cheeks, eyes; i never know when i will run out of spoons (see Christine Miserandino to learn about the Spoon Theory), and therefore the extent to which i work on my makeup look varies widely from day to day. I loved this video because i find it refreshing to hear about these kinds of struggles from someone outside the chronically ill community. Big hugs, Hannah. You are a treasure. 🖤

Not making anyone envious, but being semi retired (I never fully retire because I am a singing teacher and still teach part time at home), I don't have the need to show up so often for a professional appointment. Yet there still are some times when I may have to look well even when I don't feel well. I guess I'm looking back to when I had periods with cramps and STILL had to either be rehearsing, or performing, or teaching, and when my period came around, my eyes were so sunken in and purple, making me look like death warmed up. So I would definitely need some kind of concealer and blush and lippie on my face. Now it's due to lack of sleep that I have bad days, but still it makes me feel better to but on some minimal makeup. It makes me feel like I'm able to face the day better. But dress and hair and earring help too! Thanks Hannah for the pep talk and hope this is a help for others too. Looking forward to some more ideas like this from your channel.

I have a similar method for those internally yucky days - building the basic routine has helped me avoid many good ol' ADHD sulk-days. My go-to outfit for the highest level of polish with lowest effort depends on the season since I'm in the northern US. For warmer weather, I love a good ribbed-knit fitted midi dress in my go-to neutral - rust. Paired with simple booties or sneakers, and if it's a little chilly, a simple cardigan. In the winter, sometimes I wear the same outfit with tights and a chunky sweater over the top, but I tend to go for a ribbed-knit rust-colored mock neck long-sleeved top with barrel or straight leg jeans and whatever shoe suits the weather. I look like a bobblehead with my hair slicked back (big head small body lol), so I stick to pigtails or a loose bun with a wrap headband and some baby hairs out in the front. Clear soap in the brows, mascara, a luminous skin tint, and either a deeper nude/rust gloss (panning Moroccan Sunset from Em Cosmetics atm) if I'm not going to any indoor space other than my home or a deeper nude/rust matte lip if I'll be masked up at any point (Romand Zero Matte in Evening, Em Cosmetics Faded Clementine, and Kaleidos Terra are my top three).

Looks like I'm going to need to purchase a black turtleneck of some sort. These are genious ideas!

This is literally my life as someone who is chronically ill. Thank you for putting attention to it can’t wait for the other. I love the tips. I diy a cushion foundation for those days and use a tinted gloss.

Yes a cushion foundation is so quick to apply! I have chronic weekly migraines so I get it. Ive implemented Hannah’s tips for years now when quickly picking up my girls from school. For me its become more of an every day look actually. I also am very fair so a red lip has always been a staple. I personally love red tinted lip balm. Quick to apply, and less fussy than a red lipstick. I always keep one in my purse.

@@Portia1416 fellow migrainer as well. I feel you! It’s become my everyday too but I try to add a brow plus something else if I’m feeling up to it. It’s a great base to start with or just have. I literally just bought a new red lippie to implement. Mine were way expired. Only need to remember where I put it darn memory!

for me a long dense skirt is what does it on awful days. It looks put together yet comfy and importantly, you can swoosh.

That's my signature look! My hair is curly and wilder, but generally that's it. Smear red lipstick on and instantly you distract everyone from asking about all the noise inside your head. Also you mention your hair and liking it to be wild like a lion - when I first started watching - way back in "No Buy" days Casey would walk by and say - "Oh you're watching Lion Mane Girl!" - He knows your name (and did then) and is charmed by your awesome hair. Thanks for sharing this I hope it helps others as much as it help both you and me.

Hannah, do you have an idea for how to adapt this for wearing a mask? I have a more admin type job in healthcare (but always in person), so the red lip, alas, is not a tool I can use right now (although of course I am sticking the idea in my back pocket for when that day does come!).

I love using magnetic liner, don’t fuss with a wing, and popping a half lash on an otherwise bare lid and running nude eyeliner in the waterline if you’re feeling ambitious. You’ll instantly look more awake and fresh

I’m also in admin work. I do brows and eyes only, no lips or complexion products since they transfer to the mask anyway. 😉

The mask thing is how I got into glittery eyeshadow. Haha. For days I feel bad, I have an eyeshadow palette or two with looks I’m familiar with that make me feel put together and go that route. They’re colors that always work so I don’t have to focus on if it matches.

I love this! What a great idea. All I would add is one coat of glossier lashslick as my lashes are blonde and don’t show up otherwise. It’s the one mascara that makes my lashes look like dark lashes, instead of “wearing mascara”. Maybe add a black tight line too, upper lid only.

Great advice that every piece doesn’t have to be great … it’s the overall look❤

this is what I used to do in school! i was often under-slept and it helped a bunch. I still love a black tee/turtleneck and a red lip, whether i've paired it w fussier steps or not!
