Intermittent fasting is extremely beneficial and cutting out sugar and refined carbohydrates add more benefits. I am 86 years old and was in the prediabetic range. Now after 9months I have lost 25 pounds of weight and my bloodwork shows I am no longer prediabetic, triglycerides are way down HDL is up LDLs are 62 and 63 . I feel absolutely great. I will continue to try to get my A1c down more it is 5.9 and I want to get it down to 5.5 or below. Unfortunately Drs do not order fasting Insulin levels which would be beneficial, but I can do without. Thanks Dr. Fung, a year ago I listened to one of your podcasts and then right away bought your book about fast ing, what an eye opener!!!

Absolutely - 100%! People are running around trying to avoid their feelings, whether it be with food or TV or gambling or work or drugs and alcohol or video games, etc. You have to FEEL the feelings to ultimately come to the conclusion that they mean nothing and won’t hurt you. In fact, feeling them is the only way they won’t hurt you. People take their thoughts and feelings seriously, and act accordingly. We’ve got so many people reacting on auto-pilot, because they don’t take the time to let thoughts and feelings come up and out.

One reason there is so much idiocy surrounding this, is that the generl public simply refuses to acknowledge the well established fact, that fructose is addictive. If we talk about fructose consumption in that context (as an addictive substance) then everything Dr. Fung is talking about is just patently obvious. Fasting is a proven mechanism for helping fructose addicts break that addiction. It is as simple as that.

Vegetables barely have any protein, I can’t stand beans, don’t eat wheat or rice or potatoes AND looking at eggs and beef is making me feel ill. I had no idea that doctors are trained a bit differently each decade (based on new science results)., or that far wasn't as big as issues at initially thought, or that eating a "balanced" meal plus a cookie is better than eating just the cookie (fewer calories total). My knowledge (burn in the 60s, elementary school on the 70s, and high school in early 80s) stopped there. I was not aware of much after the early 80s. 😮

I know Dr. Fung knows this, but higher insulin levels do not make you hungrier, the problem is that fructose is a leptin antagonist. Leptin is the prinary neurological satiety hormon. So when your insulin levels rise in concert with fructose consumption, your brain is essentially unaware that you've eaten. The issue is that any one on the SAD has high insulin in concert with high fructose (fructose does not increase blood sugar of course but fructose is consumed in excessive quantities at the same time as glucose when on the SAD).

I just like to set the record straight about the rice diet it was not just rice and sugar. It was fruit, rice, fruit juice and sugar only for the patients that were dying and most were underweight and had kidney problems, so it had to be low in protein and that is why, rice was consumed. This was not a weight loss program at all. I'm not sure where you got your info but it's incorrect and misleading. A weight loss center and diet was created afterwards. They ate fruit, grains, starches, vegetables, legumes and possibly once a week meat. There are also are weight loss books that have all food groups in them for the rice diet. I have actually been on it and never was hungry because I eat too I'm satisfied. Please correct your error. So again this is not a rice and sugar diet and this program is very satisfying. And I've never stopped being a program because people have been using it consistently on their own. There are Facebook groups and your diet books. Dr McDougall talked about it often. He based his starch solution off of the rice diet.

@@y.g.1313 "I do this for long term longevity benefits of which Dr. Fung has zero idea" It is you who doesn't have any idea what you're talking about. Dr. Fung actually talks about the same long term benefits of fasting on his KZbin channel that you're talking about. If you weren't so ignorant and easily triggered, you'd know that Fung knows about and actually supports the things you're talking about, but instead, you've shown everyone how ignorant you are. Fung in this video is talking about people who has unrealistic expectations of fasting without understanding what it's supposed to do and how it applies to their own body. Yes there's autophagy, but for people who only care about losing weight, they'll say that "fasting doesn't work" because it doesn't achieve the results they're looking for. The mechanism of fasting depletes fats because that's how it works, so if you're lean and muscular, of course you're going to get different results than someone who is obese because the person who is lean barely has any body fat at all. It's actually very embarrassing for you to talk the way you did about someone who knows about and supports the things you're talking about. Very shameful and humiliating.
