I just started my spring, three day fast after my meal today. I'll break my fast with our Easter meal. I'll be 61 next month. When I was 57, I was a mess. I was almost 300 lbs, high blood pressure, asthma, and crippling osteoarthritis and bone spurs in my foot and ankle. I could barely walk with a cane, had orthotics, ankle supports and braces up to my knee etc. I was in such pain, I truly thought I was going to have a stroke and not live very long. Covid was just starting and we were in lockdown. I happened upon one of Dr Fung's interviews on KZbin..it changed my life. I had tried everything else to lose weight and what he said made so much sense to me. I watched more interviews and lectures and read his books. Learning how to fast and eat healthy keto, I ended up losing 160 lbs., I'm off all medications, my asthma is gone and my osteoarthritis pain is hardly noticeable now. I'm maintaining great and loving my fasting lifestyle 🥰. I'm so thankful 🙏😊

Dr. Jason Fung, you have saved my life. As a 48 yrs old Asian woman living in Korea, I've just went through a total hysterectomy removal and a toal thyroid gland removal. So, I have very low estrogen levels and thyroid hormone levels. I have incredible doctors who had conducted the surgeories, they have told me it would be very difficult for me to lose weight since I have low levels of estrogen and thyroid which made me so depressed. Then I encountered a podcast interviewing you which led me to start an OMAD KETOGENIC CALORIC DEFICIT DIET. I have lost 13kg (nearly 30 lbs) in 80 days. I walk or do home training for 30 minutes for my brain health and mood. I am now overweight and not obese. I am 160cm 62kg now. I still have a long way to go, and I think this type of diet is a change in my life style and not a temporary diet program. I am happy, well-slept, in a good mood all the times middle aged woman. Thanks to you. I really appreciate what you are doing to the world. You have saved my life! ( Sorry for imperfect English) I tell people around me who are suffering from insluin resistance or weight about you and the books you've written. Thank you.

Now I am 160cm 54kg (5'3'' 120lbs) and still losing excess fat in my sleep. I still do OMAD 24 hour fasting, sometimes have light snack (veggies or cheese) in the afternoon. I've turned 49 and had 2 cancer operations, PCOS, thyroid hormone problems. It is possible for everyone and anyone. I do 100 squats a day for exercise and nothing more. Plants also aren't necessarily "clean" if they were cultivated using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (same sentiment for meat and dairy). If someone wants to stand a chance of eating clean, they need to avoid synthetic compounds (eat organic, certified by a quality organisation, and endocrine disrupting and carcinogenic compounds). It's a shame Dr Fung doesn't touch on this, even if it's not a topic he's familiar with.

Dr. Fung, i listened to you and I used fasting in the beginning of my weight loss. A few 48 hour, but mostly OMAD. I think it was very useful for me , I had a lot of fat to loose and I did. I had to learn about how to break the fast and Dr. Berry's opinion was to eat eggs at first, then after an hour or two you could eat meat. It's always about having a food plan. That plan needs to be focused on whole, healthy food. My thought process then and now is what will be nurishing and I scrutinize most food that comes in a box or bag as poison when ingredients listed are unknown. I mostly eat meat and eggs because it's so easy. If good keto vegetables are available I'll eat them. All the old carb loaded foods I always liked and ate are gone and I don't miss them. I'm in a really good place, a new way of eating.

Couple of things to consider If you have fatty liver, during your fasting periods your liver can be off loading fat deposits by converting liver fat to glucose. This can increase a1c, but is a healthy adaptation. Also, a1c is flawed. It assumes red blood cells live about 100 days, but really they can live from 80 to 130 days. Fasting can increase the lifespan of your red blood cells, and bias a1c to the high side. Again this is a healthy adaptation I'd suggest a cgm. It's really the only way to see what's really going on
@MichaelCraik-u1h9 ай бұрын
Your body is converting belly fat to glucagon. You are forcing your body to live off yourself, which is good. A1C's will vary. You are still in a safe range. I am a type 1 diabetic. And when I fast, I still take insulin. It's because my body is digesting stored sugars in my fat. I've lost almost 40 lbs in 10 months. I was 185, and now sit around 148-151.

I love Dr Fung. He puts things in the most simplest of fashions. I will say I'm on a GLP-1 which is helping reversing my type 2 diabetes. I'm coupling it with a low carb, intermittent fasting regime and lots of exercise. The appetite suppression from the GLP-1 has helped my transition from eating like a giant slob to eating well. I still enjoy every meal. I just savor every bite and I'm full sooner. So I don't quite agree that it takes away your joy of eating. You just have to be mindful as you eat, which you should have been to begin with.

But that wasn’t a popular way of thinking back then, that research was not mainstream and all sorts of “cures” were sold through supermarkets and pharmacies which cost a lot and did nothing.

Allulose apparently is a GLP-1 rare sugar that suppresses appetite and improves insulin sensitivity by decreasing blood glucose and insulin. This is opposite of Ozempic which encourages the body to increase insulin. I take a bit of allulose in my coffee each day esp on my fasting days and it helps a LOT. I love the decrease of appetite. But it is dose dependent and I have great pleasure in eating on my re feed days. Have you started to encourage the use of allulose? It's a great addition to my IF lifestyle.

Well I am fasting too and learning from some Dr. and scientists like Dr. Mindy's videos on KZbin.From Dr.Mindy's videos I have come to know that women in general and specially who have a cycle should not do omad and should not fast more than 14-15 hourish during ovulation days (from day 11 to day 16 being day 1 is the day when period starts)and not more than 12,(max 13)the weak before period as it can potentially mess up the hormones function,so we can do longer fasts like 24 or 36 hours during our period days,at least that's what I understood from various fasting videos.Also Dr. Mindy says that fasting is more effective when we vary it instead of doing same hours every day.From my personal experience I feel like beside fasting and some calorie deficit we have to do some exercises too and we need energy for that,so we should experiment and see which fasting duration works better for us so that we can make sure to include the exercise in our weekly routine too.Besides that I feel like our body is a complex thing and loosing weight is a longer process than we like it to be...so Patience and keep trying is the only thing we can do😅 Wish you best of luck,be safe and healthy 😊🙏

You sound like me. I 39 and struggled to loose weight my whole life. I always joke that the average person can run a mile a day and loose weight then I'd have to run 5. And if I stop I put it all back on. However, I switched to a carnivore 80/20 diet, eventually UPPING my calories to about 2000+ a day and the weight just falls off. I don't exercise and unfortunately live a very sedimentary life, but of yesterday I'm down 50lbs in 6 months. Now here's the tricky part, I didn't loose weight during 3 months, but I did my body measurement starting 3 months into the diet and was recording once a month. During that three month period I still lost almost 9 inches! I think when you're eating well, and adding exercising would be a help, you're gaining muscle and loosing fat. And that might be what's happening to you.

Important to note that Fung admits to not being a sex hormone expert. Advising to have your hormones checked after menopause is not going to be productive. Don’t expect your estrogen level to be anything other than low after menopause. That’s expected. HRT can be helpful for many people, and if you are in menopause and have symptoms, you don’t need your hormones checked to get this treatment, just ask your doctor if you’re a candidate for it.

Hi I just want to share my experience adapting the carnivore diet. I love watching Dr. Fung. He is one of my go to dr for all the information i’ve needed since last yr when i initially did keto and fasting. Just wanted to share that I am a sugar addict. Went keto last JUNE 2023 + IF, lost 9kg, but i still CRAVED for KETO desserts. I ALWAYS have a keto dessert in my fridge. By HABBIT, my meal felt incomplete without dessert. I got stomach flu, and went back to my addiction SEPT 2023. This went on til FEB 2024 and I gained 4kg back.. I noticed my clothes got fit and tight again 😭 and after doing some research, I decided this FEBRUARY 14 to go carnivore cause I had to address my CARB addiction. Day1 (Feb14)- I dropped the carbs. I felt fine but on the afternoon. I was battling cravings, felt this HEADACHE, I stuffed myself with eggs and meat and butter and water.. Day2- I suddenly dont feel the cravings which is bizarre. First time since my childhood. But i have this “habits” that at certain times of the day I MISS certain food, or dessert. But stuffed myself again. No coffee still Day3- i feel fine. Its weird. I feel like i adjusted so easy. But I found myself feeling thirsty. Having palpitations too. i watched lots of podcasts and people going through the same as me and got myself motivated. I slowly start to lose weight. Day 4- i lost weight. I forgot how much. Definitely water weight. But got REALLY motivated, and amazed at my loss of cravings for sweets and fries! 1 week in- I incorporated coffee cause I cant give it up! Lol 2-3 weeks in- i’ve been struggling with recipes and had to look up online, 2nd week i added heavy cream on coffee, on the 3rd week i incorporated cheese in my food. I know it should be after 90 days but i cant 😂 Up to now, i’ve made snacks made with cheese! One thing I have to say, i was really thirsty at my 1st 1-2weeks. Had palpitations the 1st week then went away as my body adjusted. And since then i’ve been battling my “feelings” for certain food. I dont have the cravings. Its just that I miss certain desserts and sweets and certain foods cause i initially ate clean carnivore. But it’s no longer something that i cannot control. It’s hard cause ADS keep popping my feed. Fast forward to now it’s a constant mind battle but i lost 6kg or 13.2lbs. PROS? No sugar cravings, cheaper, easier grocery, easier cooking. I say it’s cheaper cause you just can’t overeat on a carnivore diet. 😊 when you’re full, you won’t wanna eat anymore. You’ll be fully satiated. Fasting on the carnivore comes naturally. Unlike before. CONS? When buying cheese, processed meat, heavy cream, I scan the label for ingredients and buy the ones without veggie oils, or other fillers. Its kinda hard to find the cleanest ingredients on local groceries where i live but its not impossible. Its just a con to me cause i cant just grab the cheapest commercial cheese on the rack. Hard to think of other yummy recipes! Lol. Missing out on the delicacies of eating treats and great food. But i’ve come to the conclusion to eat CLEAN at home. but when you do have social events, dont be too hard on yourself. I either order whats applicable to my diet or NEAR my diet. Cheat days with yummy ice cream on occasion but its important to assess yourself and self control! If you cannot control yourself after certain foods or desserts and craving hits you and you just spiral out of control, then make the conscious decision to choose NOT to do it occasionally. And just not do it. I love how this diet makes me feel. At first it was about the weightloss. Now it’s about the mental clarity, no headaches, i have allergic rhinitis almost every few days before carni, and now i dont! Less flare ups of eczema, i know this could go away if i could just stick to the cleanest carnivore but.. 😂 i’m lighter, my head feels clear/light. No brain fogs! Muscle recovery is faster, at least for me. I dont have smelly gas anymore, excuse the TMI. Generally i just feel great!

I feel like we are so similar! I did carnivore so well for a while, like 8 months, then Christmas came and my sugar addiction kicked in too much. I just am back on this diet for 2 weeks now. I am working on eating more meat and eggs to make me full.
