I was homeless for 6 months, i stole a pack of bread to eat so i wouldnt starve during my construction job, i was about to walk out when a LP officer stopped me, looked at the bread, and my frail frame, and asked me if i was hungry. I said yes with shame. Ill never forget what he said "well, how about you set that bread down right here and we'll go get some burger king." I have never cried so hysterically from someones kindness. Not everyone is like this pos lady. Sometimes we have no other option... So after the comments I should clarify. I lived in an extremely small area. Word of mouth traveled fast. I was ashamed of my situation and couldn't bring myself to face a shelter or any food bank. Which I couldn't get to anyways due to a lack of gas in my tank. And even if I received said food, I had nowhere to cook it. I was just a kid, 19. I'm now 22 and have a child of my own. I've learned from my mistakes and have confided in myself to do better, and be better. And to never allow myself to stoop so low again. I'm also sorry for throwing shade at this lady, she may have a mental illness and who am I to cast the first stone? I'm a sinner. I've been dirty. Downtrodden. I should've thought before I typed sad to say. I'm sorry to anyone who feels as if this isn't true, because things like this save people's lives. I was very close to giving up on myself. And my dreams. But no longer do I have that thinking process. :)

Kleptomania is a hell of a thing, and it can affect anyone, regardless of financial status. In fact, for a lot of rich people, it’s part of the thrill. They delude themselves into thinking, “well if I get caught, I can just pay for it”. The money isn’t the issue, it’s the high the act provides.

My son was 7 and stole candy from the dollar store. We walked back there, he apologized and I told the clerk my son's punishment would be picking up trash around the store's parking lot for 7 days (because he cried and refused to apologize until I told him we will stand there all day, if necessary.) Seven days, one for each year of his age. I thought he learned his lesson. A few months later, he did it again. He had to pick up trash around the police station for 14 days (second offense, so 7 days times 2) and doing it during the hottest time of day. He had water, could take as many breaks as he wanted, a large portion was in the shade of trees, but that finally taught him. He's 17yrs old now. He laughs about it now, but he learned.

We have been dirt poor. We never, ever stole. When we didn't have food, my husband always brought home wild game. There were times we only had noodles and ketchup. We conquered this time of our lives with grace and dignity. Our girls learned that no matter how poor stealing will not make you feel better. I bought a book about living off the land. We fished. We hunted mushrooms and wild onions, etc. Honestly, being poor made our family strong and united. We have 2 daughters We have 8 grandchildren. We have 15 great grandchildren. I was a police officer for many years and received a call about a shop lifter at a large grocery store. Man had stolen a turkey for thanksgiving worth about 30.00 for he and his family. He was not homeless but did not have any money. Even after talking to the manager, their store policy was to prosecute all thefts. Took the guy into custody and was booking him into jail to be released later on a citation. I gave the guy $40.00 and put it in his money envelope to take his family to dinner when he was released. Man eyes swelled up and said “Thanks man. You guys are ok.”

I’ve worked in Retail for over 30 years. I find that 90% of the shoplifters we catch are not stealing food or medicine. They always had the funds to pay for the stupid things they stole. The hardest thing for me to see was a very old man stealing a tiny bottle of aspirin. He was shaking so bad and started to cry. He said that after getting his two prescriptions he had no money left to buy the aspirin he needed for pain. He was so upset that he did that. We let him go. I bought the biggest bottle of that aspirin with my own money and took it out to him as he was walking home. It just broke my heart. People like this lady make me sick.

My daughter is head of loss protection in Walmart. Believe it or not, they do have a heart. They bought baby formula for a mother who was shoplifting it. Didn't press charges and sent her to Healthcare clinics that carry formula. Once she was a customer checking out at self checkout. She could see he was up to something , and noticed he didn't scan his card. She of course made a scene and said he didn't pay, he argued with her, and finally he just left. He had dog food and a few food items. She would have let him go, but he also tried to steal a video movie. The food was essential, but not the movie

Not at all. Her position as Assistant Chief Medical Officer is not one that just any doctor qualifies for, so she would be given several month's suspension by the hospital, without pay, and then would go back to work under hyper strict rules that she'll have to obey for a very long time if she wants to keep her career intact. Her "panic attack" was more likely due to the fact that A) she was caught on camera, B) it wasn't something she could lie her way out of, so her family and her employer would learn of it very quickly, and C) she'd done an incredibly stupid thing that weakened her high position of huge trust (the trust of her employer). It's part of why she was so compliant with the officers; she knew that if she battled them or caused any kind of trouble, THEN she would lose her career status.

Being a woman doctor is still not easy, as they still face challenges working inappropriately mostly male profession. Did 11 years for bnk rbry, been out of prison for 11 years, and haven't stole a penny since I've been out. In fact, one time I went into a store where the cashier was using the bathroom and there was nobody else in the store. So I waited by the register with my items until she came out. Taking even the smallest things is no longer worth it even if you can get away with it. Why? Because taking smaller things leads to bigger things which leads to bigger problems. LESSON LEARNED!
