Another think to keep in mind, especially if you alter the normal ride height, is how it will affect your wheel alignment. On pretty much all modern vehicles with independent suspension, changing ride height also alters camber as well as toe. So if you should choose to permanently raise or lower the overall height, you should have it realigned at the normal ride height setting to prevent prematurely wearing out your tires.

If my memory is correct, my RR P38 lowered itself when you went over 50mph for better cruising on motorways. Standard feature even on those days! I spent ages sorting the air suspension, the bags, the compressor and valves, and it was superb, very advanced for those days!

Simon, in the days of the first Mini, the rage was fitting wheel spacers to have a wider track. This gave 'better' road holding, or so we thought! The downside was it put so much strain on the wheel bearing that they didn't last long before becoming rather grindy! Also there was a spate of wheel stud failures as those mini wheel studs were not meant to be stressed in that way! Something to be cautious of on your lovely RR Sport V8!! You don't want to be overtaken by one of your wheels whilst cruising on the A419!!

In fact, there are more than 4 modes - although the others aren't driver selectable. At speed, the vehicle drops height below 'Normal' to increase stability. From memory, I think there are a total of 7 height settings including the 4 selectable ones.

Great video guys, Question? will the IID Tool keep the vehicle in it's 20 ml lowered position at speed. I have the new 2021 RR Sport Autobiography. I installed the KW lowering module on my 2010 Sport, it was a complete waste of money, the blue tooth module keep collapsing, in the end KW refused to assist me. Australia.

Hi The IDD tool make the suspension sensors lie about the real height - so if you lower it 20mm it will stay 20mm in all setting all the time... If you are in access mode ( low ) then it will be 20mm lower than stock access mode - but it you go fast the car will change to normal height - but this will be 20mm lower than the standard normal height - hope this helps !

Good evening to you all, and really my compliments for the youtube channel. My name is Massimo, and I would like to ask: IID TOOL BT, licensed for only one VIN, allows you to do the same things as the video, including, in case of sensor replacement, recalibration? I recently bought a 2015 L494, and I would like to make myself independent to carry out maintenance on the vehicle, buying one from you. The PRO version, for personal use, is a bit too expensive. I deal with automation in the industrial sector, and having fun discovering the functions of this exceptional vehicle is a real blast for me. As well as, I would like to make an important upgrade of the basic audio system (perhaps the only real flaw of the car, which does not deserve a good grade), of which I have already seen some videos, always on your channel. Can you provide me with the materials, knowing that I live in Italy?

@L6633 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim - alas no ( for the new Defender ) although I have been discussing this with the team at GAP Diagnostics ( who make the IID tool ) The new cars from 2017 on ( ish ) use DOIP to communicate between the modules which is IP ( internet protocol ) and the GAP team have not yet looked at this system. A system similar to this will materialise soon ( my prediction ) but at the moment its a case of editing the CCF file manually ( potentially risky ) and uploading via Land Rover software...with a DOIP dongle ( £600 ish for the official ones ) so its not very accessible to the DIY user at the moment.

You can lower a L494 18mm & still use access height mode. Any lower than that & the vehicle will hit the bump stops when lowering & then raise up to offroad height as it thinks the suspension has hit a obstruction. I would not lower much more than 10mm honestly.

More air in the airbags doesn’t mean more air pressure in them, it simply means more air. So being higher won’t make the car more bouncy. The car isn’t getting any heavier and the bags fold/roll under so it’s not stretching the rubber. More pressure would come when the airbag becomes stretched. Just thinking logically (I’m no expert)

At the last 600km there was a very short Sound from Front left like a dull cracking Sound. It was after i drive from Rest stop back to Highway and drive over a light pothole. Same Sound when I accelerated on the Highway 3 Times. After that the nose (Front) of the car was lower than normal. After i Park the car at Home It was normal again. After i get out of the car, i saw that it is lower than in the past. Also over night it got lower than in the past. In normal mode Front left height is 830mm Front right is 835 mm, but rear height is 845mm. Do they have to be same? There is 1-2cm difference. And you have 850mm in the Front in your Video. The air suspension Pressure does not change with the height. Only Volume does. Pressure changes with load, when you put more weight on the car. In off-road mode higher stiffness mostly caused by limited suspension travel. The softer suspension can be achieved by increasing airbag volume, so that air had more space to compress. Or more stretchy airbag material, but that's not safe/reliable
@L6633 жыл бұрын
I think you may be correct - its more complex than first appears - on Gary's car he has to increase / reduce pressure to raise / lower the car - but you may be correct it is different on Land Rover as the airbags wrap over the strut... and Force ( upwards ) = Pressure ( of air ) x Area ( of face ) ... I need to look at this more ....also how do i measure this ?
@romantkachuk1683 жыл бұрын
@@L663 Right, and since force is constant on a stationary vehicle (F=mg), Pressure X Area should also remain constant. If we think of an LR air strut as just a bit more complex version of a piston in a cylinder, then we can assume that Area doesn't change much either. That also gives us quasi-constant pressure. So, LR changes its height mainly by changing air volume. Theoretically, due to a higher volume in the off-road height suspension should be a bit softer due to a lesser relative compression comparing to the access height with smaller air volume
@romantkachuk1683 жыл бұрын
It seems unnatural because we all used to think of it as how it works with tyre pressures, but we don't consider how the contact area decreases when we inflate tyres
