I have always liked Range Rovers, but I want a good one. Not sure in the US what would be a good one, need the 4 wheel drive where we live. Glad you got it done without too much issue.

Thanks. It's interesting to see that your L405 has a space-saver spare. The North American spec with the trailer towing package has a full size spare. Ie. Impossible to lift out of the tire well while bent over the tailgate.

I used my car nearly every day and still had a mouse living behind the cabin filter in the glove box. It ran across my windshield a few times, while I was driving but met an untimely end when it lost an argument with the defroster fan.

G'day Phil, glad you know what your doin m8. Got a 2011 xtrail 146 thou and the brake master cylinder is N.F.G. [Tech Term]. Anyway, prefer a a Range Rover to all of the stuff I've had. 'cept parts are astronomical Downunda. Anyway, nice goin Phil, stay vertical Eh!

Your TopDon range of diagnostic tools run in the multi-thousand dollar range here in New Zealand. perhaps good for professional use, but rather considerably too expensive for home-garage.

Question: do you have to be safety tested any time you work on your cars? Interesting concept for sure but actually a good thing it would stop all the bad car mechanics from plying their wares and charging a mint to get something done. Great job Phil. Have a great day

The second wheel is cracking on the sidewall too , suggesting old age tyres.sorry about the Maserati fuel or electricity problem .

Both rear dampers had gone and the extra bouncing and movement caused uneven tyre wear and extra heat Two dampers and two tyres it’s all good to go again!

I can not imagine what the shop costs never mind parts would be for what you do. I know that my daughter’s transmission needs replacing and she was quoted 5000 for a rebuild for a Ford escape.

Phil, is there anything you can not tackle, repair, and or fix? You are BRILIANT ! How have you learned all these skills? Do you have a degree in engineering?

Ridiculously difficult to service vehicle, I would not want one as a gift!
@philscarchronicles2 ай бұрын
Changing rear dampers on a vehicle which has now done 116k miles, lots of towing, pulling trees over etc isn’t really service item or too early to do it but I know what you mean… However drive one you’d change your mind!
@danielulz16402 ай бұрын
I get your point, Phil. But shock absorbers/dampers ARE a normal service item and should not require the removal of half of the interior to replace! Job well done, by the way, congrats. @@philscarchronicles

@@danielulz1640we had a 2015 Dodge Journey…to change the battery we had to take the front tire off! Manufacturers make it where you have to go to the shop. The shop wanted $1200 to change the plugs and coils in my Ram with a Hemi. My son and I did it for less than $300.

Land rover/range rovers are great until they go wrong. And from past experience owning or using a good selection of the range they are poorly built. and normally the parts are well over priced regardless of brand of parts. Still gives you something to do on a sunday.😂

I want to buy one of these in about 5/6 years,....I really hope the reliability isn't as bad as the rumors make it out to be. If so,...I'm left thinking for the price of these cars...WTF are they doing/who are they hiring and who's running this companies engineering, design, and quality control department so poorly?

I love Land Rover / Range Rover but they are their worst enemy . Perhaps , like all car manufacturers, they have to earn their money from spare parts and bugger the reputation!!!!!!

Not really… 116k miles is about right to change some dampers especially as this car is used on a regular basis for proper work pulling over trees, towing heavy trailers etc

From the US - I own a 2013 Toyota RAV4. It has never had a problem, just one battery change, and drives like it’s new. It cost a fraction of the 160,000 euros that a new Range Rover costs. The seats adjust with two levers and I haven’t changed the adjustments since I bought the car. Why are these fancy cars so unnecessarily complicated and so difficult and costly to repair?

Ditch the hobby stuff as this is not your hobby...., ditch the Maserati as it is junk (I didn't see anyone succeed repairing these cars...). Range Rover: of course these are cheap second hand.....the 1 series BMW will be your most reliable car.
@philscarchronicles2 ай бұрын
This workshop and all the cars is indeed my hobby It’s certainly not a job so why would I get rid of all the fun things to have something I don’t went just because it is more reliable? Doesn’t sound fun to me and I thought that what a hobby is supposed to be?
