just a little info if u have a later 6.0 2001 up with 4l80e u need the the other flywheel spacer with bolts . 6 bolt flywheel is flat 4l60 3 bolt is dished . i heared the 99-00 have a crank that sticks out don't need spacer .
@beeterolds8 жыл бұрын
If you have a 6.0 that originally was a 4L80 and you want to adapt it to an earlier trans you actually need nothing.. The flat flexplate works with older torque converters just so as long the bolt circles are the same
@thehpw Жыл бұрын
Be careful, this pilot extender sleeve can, in some cases, push the torque converter too far into the transmission and not allow for the proper 1/8 to 3/16 gap between the torque converter and the flexplate. Not having this gap can destroy your pump and send metal into your transmission, destroying everything. This is the cheaper way but the spacer is the better way. If you use this sleeve be sure to check the gap and grind down this sleeve, if needed.

The bolt pattern on my dished ls 5.3 flexplate is bigger than my turbo 350 torque converter pattern.
@Fatt-billy.racing3 жыл бұрын
But when your putting a th400 style torque converter on that has the arm. Your bolt holes dont line up .... that 4l80e is meet to bolt up to a ls .. that spacers is just to make up the difference in the older ls crankshaft that were .400 thicker . When bolting up a powerglide with th400 converter it changes everything
@beeterolds3 жыл бұрын
The 4l80 is meant to bolt up because on the 6.0 they used a flat flexplate. The 5.3 /4l60 combo it used a dished flexplate requiring the use of the ring

Hey bud, I just bought a ATI flexplate 8 bolt and it came with a crank adaptor. It's going on a LSX 376 B-15 engine with 8 bolt rear. My truck has a 6L80 with a FTI 3000 stall. The converter has all three GM standard bolt circles. My question is one do I even need to use the crank adaptor and two if I do then does it go on the engine side or on the converter side? You seem pretty knowledgable so I figured I would give you a shout. Thanks for any helpful advice you can give me. Josh
@beeterolds8 жыл бұрын
All depends on the flexplate.. If its dished then yes sir you will need to use an adapter... But if its flat like an old SBC you probably wont need one at all... The 6l80 is a decedent of the Old Th400 and they all have similar torque converter designs... All I can say at this point is with the converter and plate on a bench try to mate them up and see if there is a gap where the converter snout would ride in the center of the plate... most of the time if you have a flat flex plate the only spacer you'll need goes between the plate and crank..
@joshcollins69208 жыл бұрын
Just a follow up, the ATI flat style flexplate mates up to the engine just like it's supposed to but lacks the clearance to clear the converter. The flexplate bolts hit the converter. Guess that's why GM made there flexplates dished. I bought a LSA flexplate and everything worked perfectly

Question is the flex plate the same for a 4l60E and a4l80E
@texasstreettunes13103 жыл бұрын
No 4l80e had more bolts on the converter that bolts up to the flexplate i recommend ict billet flex plate from amazon about $150 sfi rated the stock 4l80e flexplate with spacer is almost $100 right now so i bought the sfi one

so how about installing a 4l80e to an lq9? i got a flat flexplate
@beeterolds4 жыл бұрын
Should be direct bolt on
@gabrieljuarez87844 жыл бұрын
BeeterOlds Garage & Budget Builds ok cause I've been reading all over the place and people say you need a spacer for the 4l80e to mate with the lQ9. Thanks for the info!

I have a stock 5.3 using a turbo 350. I got the same adapter sitting in flush but for some reason the trans is not all the way on the block and my converter bolts keeps coming in contact with 1 of the little bolts on the back of the block which is stopping it from turning, do you know what could be causing that? tried smaller bolts not working either
@beeterolds8 жыл бұрын
Thats weird Ive never ran into that.. Im assuming your flex plate is dished?
@txchevyrida8 жыл бұрын
+D.Szymanski yes has that lil dip in the middle where the bolts are , but its like it's in a bin with the spacer. thats the only thing i could think of thats stopping it from mating all the way

What if you have a lm7 with a flat flexplate, does this still apply?
@beeterolds6 жыл бұрын
You may need the bolt on spacer the mounts between the crank and the flexplate.

So I wanna put a 5.3 or 6.0 in my 1991 k1500. It has a 6 inch lift and 3 inch body lift. What do I need to do to keep my 700r4? Just that little piece?
@beeterolds6 жыл бұрын
