Late comment. I used to grease my slide for a while and found out almost too late that it's a VERY BAD mistake! Oil moves and with it carbon, dirt, small shavings of metal from the cartridges, bullets and if the gun isn't properly broken in the gun. Grease stays mostly in place and keeps the particles in place wearing the gun. Since most new 1911's are built to very tight tolerances and not loose its better to use a THIN OIL. I use 3&1oil on all my guns and have for over 40 years without a problem!

Mobile one synthetic 15w-50 on the inside. Barricade on the outside. Great combo for handguns. Barricade is the best rust preventer I've found.

I also lube up my 1911 like crazy. They run better wet. On most autos a drop on the rails and springs is fine but 1911's love lube. As much as you can get in there without leaving stains on your clothes is ideal.

If it slides, grease it. If it rotates, oil it.

I'd recommend gun oil on pistols and grease on rifles works best but there's a thousand ways to skin a cat a million ways to lube a gun and a billion opinions on the correct way to do it

I have the same model S&W 1911 and I've gotten so that I just lube it with Mobil 1 - happens to be 0W-40 (but I agree with your comment, don't think it much matters). I've used the high dollar Shooter's Choice FP-10 oil and Tetra Gun grease and in the future, won't be spending my hard earned money on that kind of stuff when Mobil One works just as well.

I believe this is over lubed..son did this & gunpowder stuck to everything that was oiled.,,after 300 rds. Took 1hr to clean. Less is best..
@lemham45654 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct, way overlubed.
@Mrjohnnymoo14 жыл бұрын
Overluber here, always have been. If you want an easier way to get gunpowder off of it without having to scrub for three hours, let it sit in down dish soap and water for 15 minutes or until the powder beads up in wet droplets.

Thanks for posting this video. I always have trouble getting my smith 1911 back together. Lining the lug is a pain the way I do it. I noticed you put the barrel bushing on before you put the slide on. I will have to give that a try. You made it look easy!

I don't really think a 1911 will stop work for lack of lubrication, but if you are gonna put lots of rounds through it in training session the lubrication can help extend the duration of mechanisms and parts indeed!
@hugostiglitz23882 жыл бұрын
Try using a Q-Tip. Works well for spreading lubricant.

Lots of opinions here. As long as you lubricate it with something, and wipe off as much as you can… It will run. Remember this fact: most firearms on the planet are cleaned with diesel oil and lubricated with motor oil. And they work fine. Getting the newfangled grease or the newest viscosity oil probably means nothing. You could use Chapstick and olive oil… And your gun will run fine.

My brother-in-law just got out of the Army and brought back a bunch of G.I. "Lubricating Oil" for me. Following along with this video just now, I lubed my 1911 for the first time. Matter of fact, that's the first time I've lubed any firearm. (New shooter here, in case you had't guessed!) Man, what a difference! The slide works so smooth now. Can't wait to get it back on the range! Come on, Tuesday! Thanks for the tips!

I just use Rand CLP on all my guns. Natural vegetable oil base with nano technology. Non toxic so I don't need to worry about poisoning myself or my dog. Works great for both of my RIA M1911's. I save the Mobil 1 for my car.

Where did you get the needle of Slide-Glide?
@nightsight857 жыл бұрын
I like to put a dab of grease on the bottom back portion of the slide where it makes contact with the hammer face. Obviously you don't want any on the back of the firing pin. So I just put a dab, cycle the slide and wipe the hammer off, easy the hammer down and repeat until no excess grease clings to the hammer.

Never use any type of grease on a Semi-auto if you plan on being in a Cold environment. I live in Minnesota and did that during the winter once, and when I racked the slide back to make sure is was empty, the slide stayed back. Not good.

good to hear. i regretfully sold my tac-ops which i loved, so now ive decided to be brand loyal and go back to them, but reduce the size slightly for easier concealment. i know they function well, and have been shooting tight groupings with them from the first shot. its hard to miss with the sig vs my glock which is snappy and all over the board, but a great belly gun.
