Here in Bulgaria we do not have this product, so I use basic pencil eraser to clean my DMT and ceramic sharpeners. Useful video as always. Have a great day.

I just use Sabitoru rust eraser and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

For cleaning, I happen to use the Swiss pendant of your powder🤜 And I also like to use my Atoma with WD40 during sharpening - it greatly helps to prevent buildup in the first place.

Good to know I have used bar keepers for many things but not my stone or knife. Thanks

I've been using that stuff for years not just on stones. Comet also works too but I prefer bar keepers friend. I've always been pro active with stone maintenance so I dedicate 1 stone for cleaning after each therapeutic sharpening session. Takes about 30 seconds and keeps the stones in good working order at all times. One day I will experiment with a baking soda paste combined with dish soap just to see if that works. Goes against my routine to let any of my stones become glazed long johns.

Great tip! If you've had any experience with DMT's Dia Sharp continuous stones, what is more aggressive in comparable grits, Atoma or DMT? Also, I agree on just replacing the whole Atoma given the neglible cost difference. Watched a video on replacing the top layer where it's tricky to get off the old one, tricky to clean and prepare the aluminum substrate for the new layer and tricky to lay on the new one where you only have one shot like a gymnast to stick the landing. Thanks!

FWIW, My 400 Atoma removes steel much more aggressively than my DMT Coarse (325). However, The DMT edge is always sharper (sometimes I stick to a 325 grit edge if I will be cutting primarily something like rope and don't have a serrated knife handy). The Atoma is great for reprofiling, but I have yet to achieve hair whittling edges with the stone alone. With a DMT coarse, I can (the majority of the time) achieve an edge capable of whittling a free hanging hair without stropping.

Atoma is more aggressive IMO, both are great but the extra course DMT is still over 200 grit if memory serves and Atoma has the 140 grit.

It's stainless but it doesn't hurt to blot off the water when done

That stuff won’t damage the diamonds?

Nope

@@FearNoSteel The BKF has a chemical that can react to the nickel which is what’s binding the diamonds to the plate.
