I've been using the Atoma 400 on my Shapton Pro 320, 1000, 5000 stones and really like the result.

Super Helpful video.I have bought products from your site before and will continue to do so. Thanks Ryky!! When sharpening knives on the diamond plate do you usually use water or oil?

Hi Ryky cool video. I have a new Shapton ceramic 12000 grit, what Atoma would I use to lap it before I use the Shapton, e.g, a 400, 600 or a1200 etc? 👍

Yes, for flatting, For super fine stones It is necessary to completely remove the scratches from the diamond on the surface of the stone. Naniwa dressing stone or a thick piece of flat glass with several cuts at an angle of 45 degrees do it perfectly, the glass is better. I personally made the cuts with corse eze-lap diamond stones the size of a credit card. The size of a piece of glass is selected individually, you rarely aligns stones, this piece needs about 4 x 6 centimeters, or close to it. I made another 6x12 cm, both work reasonably well. Сuts pattern only cuts at 45 degrees as on the flatting stones. One set of cuts in one direction with the same spacing. This will remove the clogging and scratches with a minimum of stone material, it will not make the stones flat, but will support an acceptable level of geometry, and will make the surface uniform and homogeneous.

Hello, between an Atoma 400 stone and a coarse DMT D8c stone, which one would you advise me? What do you think is the best? Thank you. Best regards Fabrice

Is the atoma 400 plate equal to a 400 grit wetstone as far as sharpening a dull knife.

Funny, I just bought both the Atoma 140 and 400 from you. DHL says they just passed customs in LA. Thanks 🙏 for the plates 😊

@burrfection - just got the plates. Looks like Atoma packaging has changed? The colorway is different (no light blue at bottom of insert and insert is one piece). I just returned a set from an Amazon seller because I thought they were fake! Oh well. I’d rather give you my cash anyway I suppose… Must be quite new, have not seen this anywhere yet. Happy New Year 🎊

I don't quite get it. Why would someone not flatten only when it's dished and make it only flat and no extra? Like why does the grit roughness change that?

What do you use as lubricant on your Diamond stones that will keep them from rusting. I just purchased a trend 300/1000 Diamond stone and was told honerite works good. The trend lapping fluid is a little on the expensive side

Wondering Ryky, I have old wood chisels and plane irons I restore with bad primary bevels. After grinder to establish correct angles, was thinking to of using Atoma to flatten new bevel face then go to higher grit. I was leaning to 140 to try out. I appreciate your input. I know tool sharpening is not you forte but your feedback from that stone is what I'm looking for highly respected. Thanks man

Seems like I always end up back at your channel. If you wanted to increase your audience, I'm a woodworker and we're always looking to get the same razor sharp polished edges you get with your knives. So maybe a couple videos referencing chisels or woodworking planes could get you even more subscribers. Thanks for all of the valuable insight.

Hello Ryky. Need yours advice on fine stones. It is necessary to replace the stones shepton pro 8k and 12k, spoiled by bad water. Old terrible story about the absence of reverse osmosis filters Need a full mirror polish, as a supplement for chosera 800-5k (800 bought thanks to your video, it's fantastic, thanks to him 1000-5k began to work as they should, exactly by turns 800-1k-2k-3k-5k, it's longer, but the result is excellent), candidates - suehiro 8080, DEBADO No.8000 S, rika W-8, Gokumyo GMN100/150/200(these are the most expensive and no reviews have been seen, maybe should take 10k or 15k). Or buy a new shepton 12k with any of their listed stones(8k)? Help with the choice if you can.

i'm working on the Suehiro reviews, but don't have them yet since i have so many to do right now. the Kitayama 8000 will be the most affordable of the 8K stone. How many times do you think you need to repeat yourself before we get the message... Don't buy the 140 grit flattening plate.
