How To Make 1000 BioThane Dog Collars

Hi, thank you for this! If I wanted to get the gang press, and already had a generic tabletop rivet press, would I need the handyman press? The gang press can be used to make the hole for the rivets, correct? (I tried the handheld leather punch in the biothane and it didn’t do anything 😫). Also can the gang press be used for regular 2mm faux leather (not biothane). Assuming yes?

Hello and thanks for asking.. The answers to your questions are yes the gang punch will be able to make the holes for rivets, and yes it will cut through the faux leather... at least I would assume it would. You would not need the Handyman Press unless you were going to use it for riveting. The handheld punches are tricky. Some are better than others. but they are designed really for leather and not BIO. Thanks for asking Alissa. You can make collars with hand tools as well. We have a video "How to make a BioThane dog collar" on our channel. IN that video you can see how to make a single collar using hand tools. I can also tell you that the Handyman Press seen in this video is very affordable and is not too big or heavy. And the best part is you can make collars pretty fast and with great quality. I hop this helps!

You may use the splash OR the capped rivet with the Handyman press. The capped rivets seem to look better and may be a little stronger.

Hi and I am sorry for the delayed response!! The hole sizes depend on the size of the buckle tongue. Also the rivet post diameter. Generally, .187" hole size is a good starting point for this. I hope this helps!

Where can you get your own design placed on the biothane?

Hi Franny and great question... Designs on BioThane are typically sublimated onto the raw webbing like the one you see in this video. We do not sublimate in-house but there are a few great sublimated printing companies you can contact. Yellowdog Design and TransTex are two good ones. Our minimum run on a pattern is generally 3000 feet. Hope this helps! Thanks again:)

Hello! Great question.. The Super Heavy works on these presses. You may need to have the scissor guides adjusted so they can accommodate the thicker coating.

How do I seal the ends? I don’t want the ends raw with the white interfacing showing :(

Hello and great question! One we get asked frequently. You may seal the ends with a hot plate. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation. You still may see some webbing. To date, there is not a great way of totally sealing the ends in order to hide the webbing. Sealing the ends and holes to cover the webbing is cosmetic but not sealing them will not effect the overall quality of the product. We recommend using the sharpest cutting tools to achieve clean crisp ends and holes with no webbing fray. I hope this helps some!!
